TL;DR: If you like coop 3rd-person shooters (remember Gears of War?) this game is probably for you. The hype is real!

The game is a 4 player coop 3rd person shooter with a bunch of mission types. The types of available missions (and enemies) change as you raise the difficulty level. You unlock the next difficulty level when you successfully finish a mission of the previous difficulty. With each mission you'll be rewarded with some resources that you can use to beef up your character or its loadout.

All the missions are very "similar", you land in a hostile planet, walk to the mission location and do some things, while defending of hordes and hordes of baddies. Then you fly back home. It's that easy to spread Managed Democracy all around the galaxy!

Microtransactions:

The game has a bunch of "currencies", EXP (to raise your level), Medals (to buy new equipment and cosmetic items), resources of 3 rarities (to upgrade your ship and get some extra perks) and some form of money that you can use to buy new "stratagems" (optional power-ups). There's also a "super currency" that you can find in small quantities in-game, but you can also buy using real money. So far, I've only seen things similar to what you can unlock with medals. There's also a "SUPER CITIZEN" mode that gives you access to more ways to spend your hard-earned medals.

PS: If you like "Starship Troopers", you're going to love the lore of the game. If you like Helldivers 2 and haven't seen "Starship Troopers"... Well, you should check it out ASAP ;)

PPS: I had a very confusing experience having my friends on Steam to show up in the game; the solution is to make your "List of Friends" PUBLIC in your Steam profile.

If you like Hollywood Hacking, you're going to love this one!

The hacking mechanic is turn-based, where you have to decide how to use your two action points, either by moving around the "network" you're hacking, or using a "program". Effectiveness of the programs depends on how many "slices" of power from your hardware you allocate to each one (re-allocating slices doesn't consume actions).

When your turn is done, your opponents (AIs, Sysops, other hackers...) will move following almost the same rules (for example, Sysadmins are not affected by the booby traps laid out in the network)

Your time on the network (the number of turns) is limited by a "Trace" that ends up aborting your mission.

Most of the story is conveyed by written email/chats. There are some moments that will require you to type an email or a chat message to progress. Those can be "hacker-typed" (quite fun, to be honest) or skipped by pressing TAB.

The background is a story about identity, revenge and AI. Very cool!

Very cool metroidvania! Nice graphics, everything is smooth, and bosses are appropriately evil, but fair!

Exploration is fun, the map is large, progression is clear, and backtracking is present but with "fast travel" you never land more than 2 or 3 rooms away of where you wanted to be.

If I were to give this a grade, I'd only knock 0.1 points off of it because the game disguises some movement mechanics as weapons that are required to reach 100% of all items (the uppercut adds height to your jump, and you can get an extra air dash ability). Other than that, I had a blast playing this.

100% completed in about 24h, checking guides/maps for 4 or 5 rooms that I couldn't crack (Yeah, I'm slow).

You could play this game with an Atari joystick; you only need to move your character, and it’ll auto-shoot for you (no need to aim either!). The button is used to trigger the special ability of the character you’ve chosen.

Very nice. I picked this up for my Steam Deck, and it works perfectly; controls are easy (setup as Game controller, without mouse), and graphics are stable at 60fps.

Killer app for the Deck!

I'm loving this. It has everything I really liked from Ziggurat, but better!

Nominated for "Best Game I Suck At Of 2021" :P

One of the few games where grinding is fun; I've put 14 hours into it, and there's still tidbits of the story being revealed. Nice!

This First Person Shooter puts you in the boots of a novice sorcerer who needs to traverse the "Ziggurat", an ever-changing system of dungeons filled with enemies.

Every time you play the game, you'll get a completely random mix of rooms and enemies which, well, makes the game pretty unpredictable. Depending on how you level up on certain levels, or which boss fights you might have your experience will range from "piece of cake" to "I just got my ass handed to me, thank you".

The random factor boosts replayability, and this game is especially tricky in letting you think that you'll be able to "beat it next time", so you try again... And now it's 4AM...

Early Access?

I'm very pleasantly surprised by the level of polish that Ziggurat has on its "Early Access" launch. I'm not sure what else needs to be done, but this looks pretty much done to me.

Played on "medium" quality, with most fancyness (AA, VSync...) deactivated.
My system specs:
  • Mac OSX 10.10 beta 1 (Yosemite)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011),
  • 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7,
  • 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3,
  • Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB.
