It's very telling that whatever little is shown in the first week of Defiance sounds more engaging with better writing and have more sense of urgency with characters we care about, than a $50 expansion.

The PC port is borked. No detailed settings whatsoever and the game is plagued by Denuvo DRM, framerate is all over the place if you take the effort (albeit small) to unlock it in the first place. Yes a 2015 AAA game is using a 30fps lock on PC, you read it right.

My experience so far:

Graphics looks as good as it is, runs smooth on my kinda old rig (a GTX670), a pretty decent PC build (the devs stated it is not a port), the lack of AA is odd, supersampling is good but is also something not everyone can afford.

Gameplay is exactly what was shown and can be expected, arkham style combat with AC traversal, beautifully executed also, nothing very special about those, the various execution and spell effects are cool tho, I especially love that when countering two enemies at once Celebrimbor split from your body to counter the other guy, very very cool move.

NEMESIS system!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this is awesome, this is like the first time I saw a open world game having this kind of living and breathing world, all my actions and their consequences affect the whole uruk military structure in various ways, even death, because dying will promote your killer to a higher level and will potentially pose new opportunities/threats in the future. Even I don't do anything, it moves and changes in the background, once I was killed by a pretty low power captain, as I'm on the way getting my revenge, he end up being killed by a wild beast when going on a hunting mission! It's the kind of system open world games have always wanted, and seeing it actually gets laid out and not end up being a fluke really feels it's a next-gen game, next-gen isn't all about graphics, it's about those kind of deep systems that was simply not achievable with PS360 tech in mind.

A lot of subtle details also feels really fresh and "next-gen", like all the challenge/weapon legend missions are actually running on the open world itself instead of instanced like AC and Arkham series, all the open world rules still apply, random captains still run into you, intel npcs still appear, and after the special mission is done it directly goes back to exploration, even the left over enemies don't disappear, the script system is very advanced in this case, even far more refined than GTAV in this part.

Now the parts I don't really enjoy:
STORY missions suck, I'm only 7 hours in at 21%, but all the three story lines don't have their special kicks, the Gollum missions are basically footprint tracking and a tutorial of Wraith vision, the Ratbag missions is simply a tutorial for the Nemesis system, I haven't played the Outcast missions but I'm not holding high hopes for them, basically this is the only part I found underwhelming and is shared by a lot of reviewers, but for how much fun I'm having with the combat and nemesis system, I'll take what it offers.
