Sometimes a studio creates a game so unintentionally good, they may never be able to replicate the success that the game had;

Or, at least, that was my impression upon completing the original Layers of Fear 2 (2019), as a long-time fan of Layers of Fear (2016) and >observer_. Having completed this 2023 remake containing both of the original games, it is very clear to me now that even the Bloober Team themselves no longer have any idea what made the game that launched them to become one of the mainstream horror game developers so great in the first place;

Graphical improvements are the most notable positive change, and even then I would argue that the color balance was way better in the original games, which does take away a fair share of mood the original games were meant to set. The 2016 installment's original story and atmosphere both were completely butchered with the new gameplay mechanics and oversimplifications (including the many annoying voiceovers taking away the mystery) and while the 2019 installment's story is just as boring as ever, at least now the monster chases are somewhat interesting and maybe even create a bit of suspense.

Unless you're getting this specifically to re-experience Layers of Fear 2 (2019) and for this sole purpose only, do AVOID THIS SOULLESS GAME. Get the original Layers of Fear (2016) and/or Layers of Fear 2 (2019) instead.

Scary game go boo

Honestly, this is a really fun cooperative game, so after a while you'll get used to all the scares and tension this has to offer (mostly).

In reality, the only major downside of this game is optimisation, which is pretty much non-existent.
