It's good, but it takes a little while to really get going.

In the opening 3-5 hours, the combat is very cover shooter. Usually the optimal strategy is to peek out, get some headshots, hide and wait for healing items to recharge, repeat. Thankfully, the great dialogue and fantastic art direction/worldbuilding was enough to keep me engaged to where the game really started to hook me:

After a couple hours, once you've unlocked some better gear and you get used to all the tools at your disposal, it really all starts to click. Combat is still somewhat slow, but much more strategic and dynamic. Cover and positioning are still very important, but now you have all sort of tools to make riskier plays and actually change positioning more - you can use slow motion and dashes/double jumps to close the distance with a shotgun, or use hacking/flashbang to disable an enemy from shooting back while you line up a headshot with a high powered sniper rifle.

And man, the worldbuilding/dialogue never stops being great. It's fun to just walk around and take it all in, I never skipped cutscenes or even car rides because I enjoyed just looking out the window and drinking it all in. Night city is gorgeous, haunting, and has its own charm to it amidst all the garbage and smoke shops. It's very believable, I definitely felt "immersed" which I think gets overused a lot in games discussion but felt very relevant here. The game feels like it respects your intelligence enough to NOT explain everything and rather let you figure it out, I loved picking up on little story details just from piecing implications together.

This is still an open world game through and through - its very much ubisoft open world shooter collect-all-the-items slop. But dammit it's very high quality slop with great art, and I am really enjoying it. Easy recommend if its on sale and you're in the mood for a traditional open world game.

I liked it, but it could've been a lot better

The vibes were great, loved the visuals, loved the music, guns were fun, and a good amount of levels were paced well. I liked how they kept introducing new mechanics, it was exciting to see what sort of wacky stuff theyd throw at you next. The core gameplay loop of fast respawns and learning a level is just inherently satisfying in a way similar to watching groundhogs day: you can FEEL yourself getting better at these levels and when it all finally comes together in one perfect execution it is immensely satisfying.

However - there were a bafflingly large amount of macro design decisions that seemed to be encouraging a more cowardly and tactical gameplay style that seems completely antithetical to this game's overall tone/vibe. Regenerating health for example encourages the player to retreat and take cover when faced with larger amounts of enemies, especially towards the end of a longer level. Because of this, a lot of the lategame levels start out fast and exciting, but slow down towards the end in a really anticlimactic and unsatisfying way.

About half of the boss fights force you to wait for a weakpoint to open which I really didnt like, it completely obliterated the pacing especially after restarting the fight several times - the pizza pig fight was AWFUL. Hated it. Hope to never play it again.

Due to the inconsistent nature of the physics some enemies can randomly kill you when they don't usually, ESPECIALLY in melee. The exploding enemies in particular are very fun to kick into large crowds, but in smaller spaces there's always somewhere around a ~10% chance the game will register you as having kicked one into the ground or something, exploding instantly and ending your attempt at the level. This then encourages you to NOT kick them, which sucks, because kicking them is fun.

The unlockable shoes are not balanced at all - some are obviously not meant to be powerful and are just there for the fun factor, but this game gets HARD and after a while. I found myself exclusively using the shoes that let you dash for probably 95% of my playtime.

It's frustrating, because they nailed the core gameplay, and just kind of fumbled at the finish line. I think with a couple tweaks this game could've been a lot better, but it's still definitely worth playing if you're a fan of fast paced FPS games and fast respawn type games.

I liked it. Clearly there's been a lot of thought and care put into the implications and mechanics of the body swapping mechanics and the individual bots. When starting out, pacing feels a little slow and some of the bots are a little unintuitive to play (a lot of them "feel" underpowered but you later realize they were always balanced, you just didn't know how to use them properly yet) but its very rewarding to learn and runs feel more in line with the pacing you'd expect as you start to get a better grasp of the game's mechanics and how to blaze through levels faster.

It's definitely a game that requires some amount of time commitment to learn its mechanics and intricacies to truly get everything it has to offer out of it. If that sounds appealing, like if you're the type of person who loved to learn how to rocket jump - this game is for you. There are so many interesting interactions, tech, and fun strategies to discover. It can be a little difficult and strange especially in the early game though, so just keep that in mind that it might take a little bit for everything to click when you start playing it. Pay attention to the tutorials. Read them!!!!

The boss fights are really nice, and I appreciated the hub section with a story. The music/visuals are good but definitely the gameplay takes center stage. The devs are cool dudes and very responsive to feedback. Interested to see where this game goes after it leaves early access.

Definitely a recommend to fans of the genre, or those who like to be rewarded for learning cool tech. Very fun and rewarding.

Pretty cool little game, I honestly ended up enjoying the game a bit more than I thought I would. The puzzles were good and it felt like it never wasted my time which I appreciated.

It's mostly walking around and interacting/talking with things, so it's a good thing the places you walk around are very visually interesting, unique, and atmospheric. The music is great, and the overall vibe is impeccable. If you like classic RPGMaker games like Yume Nikke or Lisa The First this is an easy recommend.

The more music-video esque cutscenes are all really well made and gorgeous to look at. I also really enjoyed the story + the scenes where you choose dialogue options. The story does a really good job overall at keeping things ambiguous but giving you just enough info to tell what's going on. It's very emotionally vulnerable and feels like a deeply personal project that really had something to say and was able to do that successfully. I like a lot of the metaphors with memory/books and the little puzzles in the first section were pretty fun. The part where the other person asks what you're doing and they represent your character stuttering by giving you like way too many dialogue options to choose from was really clever!

Now im gonna be nitpicky as heck you've been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The earlier sections felt little janky at times but never to the point where it ruined my enjoyment. Movement feels a little too snappy and I kind of wish I could move diagonally, maybe input buffering would be nice, idk. I wish the save/menu buttons at the bottom of the screen had a black outline so I could see them while in lighter rooms, I also wish less-critical ambient dialogue (eg when your character walks into a room and says "this feels empty" etc) didn't trigger every time you walk into its trigger. Also there was one or two points where there'd be multiple separate dialogue triggers next to each other that gave the same dialogue so you could move to the left and hear the same dialogue again. There's a couple things in the game (especially in earlier sections) that feel like they should be animated but aren't like the blue fire. It also doesn't run the greatest, my laptop fans kept turning on but I never had any frame dips or performance issues. It doesn't run poorly by any means, just not as well as I guess I expected for a 2d game? I wouldn't be surprised if some of these were engine limitations idk lol.

I liked the sillier bits in the 'home' section like the milk guy in the office and the vending machine on the roof. I wish the guy out for a walk on the coast didn't have such a big hitbox though, you can't really get around him which is kind of an inconvenience. I really liked the karaoke minigame although I thought it could use a little more JUICE(tm). Some particle effects and wiggle on the note input thingy as you press buttons would go a long way. Also the chart for the first song was a little inconsistent, some sections had a ton of notes and some didn't have very many even though the song was of a relatively similar intensity throughout. Was definitely fun overall though, everybody loves a good DDR minigame >:)

The battle minigame in the coast area was fun but really was kind of just choosing battles in the correct order and then spamming attack until either you win or if you got low and then either using a healing item or defending to regain hp. There really wasn't a ton of strategy to it, but it was short enough that it managed to stay entertaining and felt like a cute little mix up. I liked it.

I think the 'HOME' section didn't have quite as much intrigue as the first section and I kind of wish it had had more puzzles/story elements in it. What is there was able to keep me consistently engaged, it just felt like it wasn't quite as gripping as the first section.

I felt like I definitely got my money's worth. It's a pretty easy recommend to anyone who's a fan of the genre (and by that I mean both the music and game lol) that's looking for something relatively short and visually polished. Good stuff!

This game rules. You play the first level and are like "oh, I get it, it's basically indie F.E.A.R. with a 2014 montage parody aesthetic."

You fool. You absolute buffoon. Every level has some insane setpiece that catches you completely off guard, almost as if its teasing you for DARING to think that it would be that simple. Every time you think that this game has run out of tricks, it throws some new insane thing at you like human sized bowling pins with guns in a bowling alley or an australian helicopter that does flips as it shoots explosive barrels everywhere. This is one of the most creative and inventive games I've played in a long time.

I think this game is best experienced blind, although I'd reccomend trying the demo if you're on the fence since it's a pretty good incapsulation of the core gameplay.

It is also just an exceptionally polished FPS title on its own as well. The guns feel great, have weighty sound design, and environments react in interesting ways (you can shoot fire extinguishers and they spurt smoke everywhere and fly around) The powerups are all unique and fun to use, movement feels great, and boss fights are surprisingly balanced. Checkpoints are well placed and the difficulty felt just right for me, and the game is actually very replayable as every level has optional challenges which unlock new weapons in the armory. On top of that, there's also just a lot of content (3-6 hours) if you don't feel like replaying it.

An easy recommend. Worth it at full price.

Significantly better than the original, which already slapped. Pretty difficult so go into it knowing you might get your butt kicked a bit. It's a little short but I feel like I got my money's worth for sure. Plus there's an endless mode if you want more. The whole thing is pretty much just the type of gameplay shown in the trailer with some twists here and there, so if the trailer looks fun then I'd recommend you give it a go.

Cute little indie rougelike! It's a little buggy and jank sometimes but never enough to actively ruin my enjoyment. And the demo's free! Give it a shot and if you like the demo I'd reccomend buying the game at full price, it's pretty replayable and I think I got my money's worth, plus there'll be new content updates in the future.

-everyone always mentions this, but it bears repeating, the art + vibes are adorable.
The character designs/dialogue is also really good too. They all have their own distinct personalities and I enjoyed just watching everyone do their thing. Loads of little touches help this,
I love how Shoxza does a lil dance on the main menu, and the part where you dance with the twins, and how lyllh calls you out on just wanting to snuggle, and...

-i REALLY like the forge system. Every item has a positive and negative effect, and 6 times per run you can forge an item to remove the negative effect and slightly buff the positive effect. Gives me a reason to plan long term for my runs, makes item economy more interesting, just a really cool system with loads of depth that adds a ton of replayability. great stuff!!

-the 'class' system where the first item you choose drastically affects the rest of the run is really clever. means you can never get too comfortable with the same setups since the first items are all so different, but they're all also really strong when paired with the right upgrades. forces you to think on your toes and experiment, great stuff!

-great pacing. Lots of areas to take breaks, switch up gameplay with platforming, etc.

-I really like how in the lategame the difficulty is increased by having new and interesting drum patterns as well as new enemies. keeps the actual rhythm parts of the rhythm game fresh!

it's so good. peak source jank gameplay, its like double action boogaloo meets heavily modded gmod sandbox but it's somehow also really well balanced.

doing lan parties of this game is genuinely some of the most fun ive had with any game on steam. cannot reccomend this game enough. get a group together and play it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's kind of janky but I'd reccomend it overall if you like hotline miami/top down shooters in general

Good:
-upgrades, especially the ones that synergize, are really cool and fun. automation (turn all thrown guns into turrets) and the one that turns kunai into throwing axes that can return to you are especially fun, but theres loads of different combos and I think this is really the most replayable part of the game.
-Guns are *chefs kiss* very nice
-Music is top notch
-Visuals/aesthetic are really good.
-The levels, especially the wide open ones, are just really godd4mn cool. I was surprised how fun the long range combat was in this game, considering how brutal it is in HLM 2. I guess it's probably because you don't die in one hit so if an enemy hits you from offscreen you can just take cover.

Bad:
-The bosses are kind of mediocre. Not bad by any means, but not really that interesting. They mostly use the same patterns as each other and because some attacks are way harder to dodge than others and bosses mostly just pick moves at random, plus the fact that some patterns are also based on rng, can lead to some pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ feeling deaths at the hands of the bosses.
-The art style is cool but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I can not see the acid puddles at all, more readability in general would be appreciated.
-Pacing slows to a halt if you get to low health in the middle of a floor. Game goes from bombastic shootouts with bullets, blood, and shrapnel flying all over the decrepit mansion to peeking around corners and abusing slowmo in order to not lose your run

The game is a bit jank/buggy at times, vaulting over tables never seems useful and corpse ragdolls sometimes spin around getting stuck on each other, and as someone who works in the same engine as the dev I bet he forgot to assign the lateralis logo noise an audiogroup because that sh!t is way too loud lol

Would reccomend if you like top down shooters and are willing to look past some jank.
