And it has finally been released.

Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod is basically what it says, it's a Multiplayer Mod. Out of the two test sessions I've played, you can have 1000 players in a single server (depending on the server), but the highest I've been with is 520 people, and surprisingly, it keeps incredibly stable and in-sync. When not in-sync, the craziest things can most likely happen, so I can't really even count that as a con for myself. Even with 520 players, select areas doesn't feel full even besides such a high player count. With more than 500 people, you're basically in for mayhem, competition, and murderous players. You have racing, parachuting, competition, deathmatches, and much more, including with more people hosting servers this time around.

Your first experience can probably be a bit bleak, you might be confused or overwhelmed to what's happening around you, including if you spawn in a crowded area. You could be being shot at, you could have people following you, or you might just be alone, which is why it's always good to look at the FAQ (http://wiki.jc-mp.com/Frequently_Asked_Questions) and the in-game help menu. (F5) Though, both aren't to detailed on what you can possibly do, they help out with some commands that you might want to know. It's also nice to know that you can put yourself in a Faction, which is basically a group for people. Or, you can make your own faction, which also helps in sitting yourself in a server. (EDIT, 4:38 PM 12/17/2013: The devs have not released the Factions script yet, so look out for it! No one's actually too sure where the script is actually, so we'll see soon.) I also believe it's great to find your favorite server, and keep with it unless if you want to try something new. Because JCMP uses SteamIDs instead of unique IDs for players, Servers can keep track of your in-server stats including your money, so your progress will be always saved unless if the server has been reset.

So far in-game, I have experienced Deathmatches, Survival matches, Boat Races, Plane Races, Skydiving Races, Road/Dirt Races, Destruction Derbies, Dogpiles, Stunt Events, and MANY more game modes thanks to the open LUA script system that allows server admins to add these scripts to their servers. Though, a lot of the scripts are still stock / basic because of the game only now being released to the public to host and mess with, I believe as the devs update this game, it'll have a lot more gamemodes and functionality in the future once people start getting comfortable with how it works. There might be more to what I named, but I'm not sure yet. I'll also update this once time passes by!

Besides activities and gamemodes, the destruction a full server can have is amazing. From blowing up random landmarks to just plain randomness in a field, there's plenty of mayhem to last until another update, Including at places like 'airport' 1 and 2, 'Pie' Island, and 'racetrack'. If all of those aren't your thing, cruising with friends also works out too since even with a crazy amount of players, there's still many other places on the map to travel to with people.

A big con is that a good amount of the original game's menu's are still possible to back into, but it wasn't as much as the tests, I'm glad they managed to get rid of most of the menu's.

In general, you might be overwhelmed by too many things and the open world aspect might be too much for those who like to start off with instructions instead of going out of your way to throw yourself into explosions and others, but you're up for a SAMP like experience after you figure it out here, JC2 style. It's defiantly a SAMP competitor, and I cannot wait for what people come up with using the LUA code system, and I can't wait for what the developers have in mind for the next update. Keep in mind that the game just launched and there's still a good amount of things they should fix / add, (which is also why you should report these things to the JC2MP bug report forum! just sign in and steam and make sure your issue isn't server related! http://www.jc-mp.com/forums/index.php/board,16.0.html) but I'm very confident that this mod will take of even more in the future.

I would defiantly recommend this to those who own JC2 and enjoyed it.

EDIT: Now that Steam has public 'reviews' for games, I figured I shoud rewrite this for public information.

Midnight Club 2 is a fun, flashy arcade racing game released in 2003. What you're looking at here is wild speed boosted racer with TONS of replay value w/ plenty of 23 cars to choose from, races, courses, game modes, in three cities (Los Angeles, Paris and Tokyo), which also applies to the (pretty dead) online mode which also increases the amount of replay value with custom races. It's insanely easy to pick up and play with no kind of learning.

Story Mode / Carrer Mode in this game isn't exactly 'story' based, nor connected to anything, you rather just beat challenge by challenge in order to progress with better cars and move to other cities. The further you get, the more cars you have unlocked and ready to use in any game mode.

Racing in this game is a very arcade like experience, 'wonky' steering, air physics, and etc. Races are checkpoint powered (which is obvious) which can go from head to head racing to beat the clock racing. Sometimes their'll also be races where you're able to choose your own path to get to one checkpoint and back to the start. The map design also helps. In LA to Tokyo, you have cities that are filled with hidden paths, shortcuts, and alt paths to help you race to victory.

The sound in this game is very basic, but it's what'd you expect in a racing game. There's a very nice and memorable soundtrack collection in this game (as long as you have love for Electronic and Rap / Hip Hop) that differs from all three Cities. LA with Hip Hop / Rap and Electronic / House, Paris with House / Techno (that's a genre guise), and Tokyo with Trance / Hard Dance and some ambient tracks. (Please correct me if I'm wrong about the genres!)

The enviroment and graphical capabilities isn't much compared to now, but it was something very nice in 2003. The frame rate isn't hard locked (I don't recall it being hard locked at least), shiny cars, detailed enviroments, and so on.

What makes me so happy about this game though, is the evolution of Midnight Club. Midnight Club: Street Racing was a pretty damn mediocre racing game but was addicting to play, though it was just missing tons of features and was very slow. What I really love is that Angel Studios (which is now Rockstar San Diego) completely upgraded the code of the original game which managed to turn into this, and I love the direction they went, and how much the production value of the game went up compared to the last they had.

You should also check out the latest Midnight Club game if you own an Xbox 360 or PS3, Midnight Club: Los Angeles. (which I wish was on PC....I hope they make another on the PC platform!)

Now, as I said in the original review:

Buy it. It's fun, original, and it's worth what you're paying even for a 2003 video game.
