The Encylopdaedia Galactica describes gou as "the second most interesting waste of carbon in existence" however it is popular to note that the first most interesting waste of carbon is never divulged.
Many of the contributers to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy have often mused that the Encylopaedia Galactica is in fact the most interesting waste of carbon but no editor has yet seen fit to add this to the Guide, probably because the thought is further complicated by the notion that no carbon is even used in the publication process anymore, which would seemingly demote gou to the semi-illustrious position of 'first'.
This once again proves Encylopaedia Galactica's slight inferiority, given that the Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy is edited on the fly and is therefore, for all it's inaccuracy, notably less out of date.

The entry for "gou" in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy simply states "entirely harmless"
