Hadn't heard of the game at all prior to a YT video a day after launch.

Fell in love instantly. The art is great. The graphics are great.

The game is a 1-4 roguelike.
There are 8 characters, all with different playstyles, each gets a "star chart" they can apply stat bonuses/gameplay changes to with both a shared pool of buffs and individualized ones.
Your chosen character decides the passive "memory" and two "memories" (active skill) unique to that character.

During gameplay you can add/remove up to 4 memories, and each memory except the passive, can have 3 "essences" added. These essences can do a number of things, such as, additional damage, an attack speed buff, firing extra projectiles on hit, reduce the ability's cooldown everytime you attack, to name a few.

The nice thing, these essences can trigger eachother, allowing for some pretty insane combos.

You absolutely CAN, and are expected to "break" the game.

Real quick, this is an incremental game, not an idle game. They are similar, but not the same.

This game combines multiple different incremental games, and throws in an RPG on top of it.
You collect friends to join your party and fight (or bribe) your way through a bunch of fights.
There is meta progression, in the incremental games, in the party building/strengthening, and in the RPG elements.

There are 6 game modes you will have to playthrough if you want to 100% the game, and outside of the Standard game mode, the locations of your party members, the items monsters use and some of the fights are randomized so you will never have the same 2 playthroughs outside of standard mode.

A lot of people see these incremental games, where you just fill out the skill tree and get to the end, that's it, while Cauldron does eventually devolve into, get the minigames maxxed out and get to the end, there is some actual depth to the combat. You have an unkillable team, congrats, they do no damage. You have a team that instapops every enemy, congrats, the enemies blow up on death at the same time and party wipe you.

Cauldron has comfortably secured a spot in my Top 10 games of all time.

85 hours to 100%, should be lower as I grinded for a day or two remotely when I could not properly play the game.

Just buy the game on uplay.

Your purchase on steam requires a CD Key (good luck finding it btw) to activate on uplay anyways.

It forces you to use their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ platform.

The game did JUST release, so this is definitely an early review and may change in the coming months/years.

The First Descendant tries to blend many many mechanics and ideas from Warframe and Destiny. The problem is that it doesn't go deep enough into any of them, except for Warframes monetisation.

Ignoring the micro-transactions, the game is absolutely stunning, and many of the female characters are oversexualized (not necessarily a bad thing).

The gameplay doesn't come close to either Warframe or Destiny. The guns have no weight to their shots. Swapping weapons or even ADSing is often laggy because of animation locks. The game can be played absolutely as a free player, but, akin to warframe, you're looking at multiple day long wait times to unlock characters, AFTER you get their non-100% drop rate items. The abilities (so far only played Ajax and Bunny) are lackluster and don't even remotely compare to damage potential of your basic primary weapon. Boss fights are tedious and repetitive, destroy the three balls floating over the boss's head in order to damage the boss itself. "Weak spots" and breakables on some of the giant targets are often on the back/top of the target, making it almost impossible to destroy/hit because of their movement and facing/chasing you.

Game's fantastic, give it a bit to find out how the PSN account debacle plays out.

EDIT : Changed review to positive. Helldivers succesfully completed our major order against the snoy automatons... for now.

Love the idea of saving a dog. However, a lot (not all) of jumps are very unforgiving. Combat was not the greatest, enemies had essentially no AI to them, just walking back and forth. First boss (mini?) fight was boring as hell, and seemed more like a tutorial for the first weapon upgrade which lets you shoot farther and faster than normal.

I want to give you more information on the game, but I didn't make it that far as I got to a part where you race a sperm... requested refund.

1. Better not be human sperm.
2. Did our dog just get freshly boned?
3. Just no.

Simple graphics.
Mostly simple mechanics.
COMPLICATED AS ♥♥♥♥ backtracking if you manage to get yourself to somewhere you probably shouldn't be without certain powers/upgrades.
Overall 8/10.

How the ♥♥♥♥ the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ made this game and DIDNT prioritize network quality amazes me.

My hit gets registered, the enemy takes damage, and then im getting sent into a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ combo because the match quality is only ever ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ red, just feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great.

What's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ point of a preferred server region, if i keep getting matched against people from halfway across the globe?

It's sad the game just barely misses the mark on SO MANY aspects.

"UP to 10 players" except matchmaking cares more about getting you into a game quickly, over getting you into a GOOD match, with multiple players. Can't tell you how many games I've matchmade into a 3 person lobby with 250+ms ping.

The game has literally zero scaling for solo versus 10 players, if there is scaling, it's completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥, a duo lobby jotunn has 100k health, compared to a 8man lobby's same boss with 86k health.

The game lets you play solo, but it's basically impossible unless you are playing in a group of 4+, between the fact that you are gathering all the resources yourself, you cannot explore fast enough to gain any significant amount of souls required to build structures, and the fact that the structures cost the exact same whether you're solo or in a 10man lobby.

The game advertises classes as customizable options, but unless you have a competent group of 6+ people working to the same goal, you're not unlocking any of them. You get 2 to start, the other 6 are unlocked via challenges. 2 of which are just shy of impossible with current game mechanics.

The gameplay loop is enjoyable, but again, just missing the mark on so many things. The game has so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ potential. It is on the edge of greatness, but it is not there yet, and I cannot in good faith recommend the game at this time.

41 hours to 100% the game.

The monster collector part of the game is simultaneously easier and harder than your average poke-game. Collecting the different monsters is based on how well you do against them in the wild (or rechallenge for some of the "legendaries"), but the strategy that goes into the fight allows for so much more depth.

Each mon has their own skill tree, and each mon is actually viable in their own right. Obviously there will be ones that outshine others in certain aspects, IE, the catzerker will outperform the goblin warlock against a monster that is strong against magic attacks, not to mention elemental strengths/weaknesses.

Most of the mons also come with different synergy creating passives/upgrades, want to focus on debuffs, want to focus on big hits, want to focus on just staying alive forever? You can.

The story is a little cookie cutter, and it would be nice to be able to get some of the improved travel abilities on the mons that have the regular abilities.

9/10 would recommend if you enjoy monster collection games.
