really i'm buying this and recommending it to support beamdog and the continual development of modules, but this feels very much like a brief interlude between the original games campaign and something else. looking forward to seeing what comes of it, but i would advise caution for those looking for something incredible with this.

8.5 overall for the current 1.0.3 build, easily a high 9 with the bugs ironed out.

I have played all the Stalker games. I've played most of the mods for the Stalker games. The only thing I hadn't beaten to death was NLC7. It is so nice to be back in the Zone without having twelve hundred mods on top of an engine made of duct tape - it makes me very excited to see what all the extremely passionate and talented mod developers are going to do with the game going forward.

I think most of the hardcore shooter fanbase at this point has at least watched content from the CoC/Anomaly/Gamma/DrX/EFP etc vein of Stalker modding, and moving from those systems to HoC takes some adjusting. Not being able to skin mutants, cook your own food, craft your own detectors, mod your own weapons, strip parts, make ammo, set stashes, .. In part it felt like something was missing.

The map is a little jarring for those of us coming over from the earlier titles - Cordon is no longer directly south of Garbage, Swamps isn't west of Cordon, and Rostok doesn't lead directly into the army warehouses. Lymansk is nowhere to be seen, nor is Dead City, which is kind of a shame. I was sad to not be able to visit the CNPP or the Sarcophagus, and it seems like there are a bunch of ~hidden~ areas on the map for upcoming content.

That's not to say there aren't additions, however. Zaton is now in the south and is Massive, a number of new regions have been added (Duga!!), and it feels like there's a lot more to do in Pripyat. Exploring the cooling towers was really neat, the mass grave for the soldiers from operation Fairway in the Concrete Factory was a neat bit of world building reinforcement, The changes to places like Garbage are neat, specifically the Slag Heap.

The story was very neat. There are some poignant moments, some pretty dope action moments, a lot of conflict and a whole bunch of not knowing who to trust. It's not near as cut and dry as the three previous games were, and the characters we have known in the past seem more alive and invested in their current incarnations, which makes some of the decisions that get made Difficult.

Now that my first playthrough is done, I'm really looking forward to seeing the other ending(s), finishing out exploring the map, and maybe modding it this next go-round. Most of the gripes that I have with the game center around the differences between its level of depth and that of something like Misery, and we're already seeing mods come out to introduce changes to some of the core systems that don't quite scratch the complexity itch.

Congratulations to the team at GSC on getting the game out despite the ongoing conflict. It truly is a work of art, and is in my opinion the best of the four Stalker titles to date.

It's really good for a survival game, and really really good for a pixel art JRPG. Really looking forward to seeing how this continues to develop and watching the modding scene grow. 9/10

-1 because the building is a little clunky and the town management is occasionally a pain, but from the looks of the areas the dev(s) have put together there's some really cute stuff you can do with it once you get the hang of it.

extremely good, a good challenge without being impenetrable, and some very fun bits of lore for those that like reading item descriptions. this is (a lot) more of an already exceptional game - while performance can be hit or miss sometimes, i didn't have any lag related deaths.

it should probably be pointed out that a surprisingly large amount of this expansion is able to be missed by not paying close enough attention - be sure to explore and to pay attention!

Seems good. Reminds me of Outward a lot.

Didn't notice any major frame dips, tab targeting is optional, wizard things require spells to actually be in your inventory instead of being tied to specific weapons or being memorized (at least early on). Skill tree seems pretty good for the first release, but hope to see it expanded on more. Building is a little wonky, but better than a lot of other similar games at this point in their dev cycle - Clipping/snapping in particular needs work. The terrain is all workable which is interesting.

The story from what I've read of it thus far is neat, and the world is interesting. Looking forward to checking it out further.

This could be super sick, but it needs some time and a strong UX redesign. Interaction is tied to a literal independent interact button on the side of the screen instead of just .. clicking to interact. I'm not sure what universe that decision was made in, but it should be reverted. Pathfinding should be entirely reworked. It looks like they're going for some kind of story system deal, but I'll be surprised to see many people figure out what's going on with it.

This is an interesting game. On first blush it smells like a CRPG, but it's got a more action-involved combat (dodge, parry, block, light+heavy attacks). There are a *lot* of quests and they can be found in areas both in day and night time. This means that sometimes quest givers will be hidden on the other side of the clock, but in the same city, which is a little annoying.

I think it's extremely important to note that this is not an in-depth RPG. Each level you get a skill point, a stat point and a trait point. You aren't rolling starting stats, and growth through the attributes you can increase is very limited. It would've been nice to see the implement something along the lines of a d6/d20/gurps system.

I'm not personally a big fan of the combat system. The narrative is interestingish, though I've mostly skipped through it. I feel it would've been better implemented as a more traditional CRPG with an established system in a new universe. The current design is extremely clunky feeling, making it seem significantly older than it is. That being said, the title is in early access and all of this is potentially subject to change, though the degree of change I think will likely be relatively minor.

At this stage, I can't recommend it unless you've well and truly looked into what you can expect. Watch some YouTube videos and streams before jumping in.

Before buying this, be aware that it is Slav jank. The voice acting is bad, the camera controls are shoddy, the combat is scuffed, but it's all in the same ways that the Gothic and Risen games were. I've put an hour in thus far, but I haven't found it terribly compelling.

The MC is voice acted and sounds .. whiny. The lack of save features is inconvenient, the choices being made aren't exactly clear and I'm really not fond of the UI. Maybe I'll come back to this, but right now it doesn't look great.
