This game, right here, *is* them "makin' em like they used to".

If you're a Monster Hunter fiend like I am, you've already made your decision.

For everyone else, beware not only the horrendous PC performance for its visual quality, but also a needlessly complicated lobby system and one of the most aggressively guardrails-y, hands-held, perscriptive campaigns in recent memory for *any* video game, which sprints in the opposite direction from historic series convention in order to make the first seven hours of the game so far feel like a mollycoddling tutorial level in how it often won't let you step twenty feet away from NPCs.

A frustrating experience, but we just love to Hunt these Monsters, man.

Great digital translation of a crowd-pleaser card game. Can't beat that price with a stick.

Wonderful integration of trigger-reflex gameplay into an otherwise relaxed, almost melancholy little visual novel.

Exactly the compact puzzle game it sets out to be; nothing more, nothing less.

When I first got hold of the demo for A Twisted Tale over two years ago, I could only leave hungry for more. Even within the space of a single room, it showed the kind of adoration for a genre that's downright infectious.

Between clever craftsmanship, playful puzzles, and admittedly some slight snags, it's hard to tell as of yet whether it's the start of a point-and-click renaissance given that this is just one part of seven. But what's here is plenty charming as-is. A definite a passion project, it's doing its darnedest to grow into some pretty big shoes; here's hoping it finds the right footing.
