I wanted to wait to make a review on this one and while I definitely recommend it there are some pretty big caveats and ways the game could be improved. On the plus side, getting into a match and just having fun quickly is a breeze and the free loadout option helps a lot with that. The graphics are amazing and the game is extremely well optimized. There's tons of crafting and missions and the free battlepass along with the expedition track is a nice addition to what will probably be the late game track for most. My biggest issues with the game are starting to appear in what would be the endgame though. I really enjoyed trials at first but they've highlighted any and every issue the game has with balancing and what exactly the goals are going forward. I love that the game is pvpve but as a mostly solo player, it feels nearly impossible most of the time to make real progress in trials because someone with a free loadout can pretty easily run up to you while you're fighting a larger arc and kill you so I wish there was a big damage modifier to free loadouts or the ability to scale shields/health high enough to curb this or something. There also doesn't seem to be much reason to engage in pvp once you've completed everything else other than to grief or try to steal loadouts which is fine, but having trials (ranked mode) which are exclusively pve kind of places the pvpve aspect in a weird state that just makes them frustrating instead of fun most of the time. That being said I've had a lot of hilarious and exciting moments already like someone riding a wasp into a building on spaceport screaming "F**K YOU SPIDAMAN" or conga-lines of flute playing weirdo's so there's tons of fun to be had, but having pvp be too easy to engage with without any real reward and pve be the endgame 'carrot on a stick' that suffers due to it puts the games identity in a place that hopefully see's some balance.

It's TXRO but the way you remember it from your childhood which seems like a nearly impossible feat to accomplish but damnit, Genki did it.

Bohemia made modding DayZ free, easy and as available to the public as it possibly gets so personally I will never bat an eye dropping a few bucks to support them. I'm already loving some of the mods that have made their way to Sakhal but it's also the first map that I've really embraced hardcore on and in all my hours playing, still had a lot to learn about the game. Plus ya can go boatin'

Last week there was a whoooole lotta negative reviews from accounts with less than 10 hours played. Reading over reviews from players with 40+ hours is like chicken soup for the get good soul. I'll always be partial to the more tightly routed souls/sek/borne formula but some of the vast and open terrains in this dlc are breathtaking.

This review may be a bit biased as the AC franchise has been one of my favorites since childhood but holy smokes is this game everything I could have asked for and then some. It's a dopamine drip that handles and performs so fluidly that there's almost nothing to even compare it too. The atmosphere and environments compliment the story with little flourishes like secrets that expand on the lore in a way FROM has become infamous for and it's that magical formula they've crafted over the years that feels almost perfected in AC6.

First things first, yes the game is 'hard' but it is it's own brand of hard that FROM has become well known for. Some people genuinely love to be challenged and made to consider what approach works best for each situation. I can only thank FROM enough for consolidating those decisions in AC6 into a much tighter and faster design than some of their other titles, like being able to quickly swap to a different build. Like any other FROM game, sometimes the rng gods will not look favorably on you but the satisfaction of getting your ass kicked, only to see the patterns and learn the dances is immeasurable and a breakaway from anything that could be considered boring.

I've seen several reviews remarking negatively on graphics and visuals, which to me is bonkers. The game is as gorgeous as it needs to be and increasing the poly count in an attempt to push that limit, only to potentially take away from the core of the game's mechanics which is pulse pounding, near race-sim like control and timing would only defeat it's purpose. Environments are incredible, levels are carefully thought out and the amount of detailed little IK rigging done to mechs to make them move the way you'd expect is extremely satisfying. Even just gliding around with boosters is a treat.

The last, but far from smallest impression I'll mention is FROM's commitment to constantly improving and listening to fans of their games. Having arena back in AC since being removed in 4 and 5 proves they're a company that listens, and doesn't cut corners where it matters most to the people they're making these games for. In an era where lootboxes, battlepasses, and out of touch companies exist as the standard, FROM has never disappointed to deliver what matters most.

If you're on the fence, I'd say give it a shot. You don't need to know anything about the franchises past to dive in, and I guarantee you won't find anything nearly as heart pounding and adrenaline fueled as AC6. You'd be surprised how far you can get on borrowed wings.

Because of the art style the devs went with, JSR stands up graphically as pretty damn good in 2023. With support for 1440 resolution that only takes it to the next level and while textures can still appear stretched or washed out, it's still a good feeling to boot up a 20 year old game and have it actually look the way you remember playing it when you were a kid. The soundtrack is unparalleled, although it would have been a nice feature when added to steam to allow for selection of music as sometimes you'll get stuck listening to the same song over and over for the entirety of a stage. Some minor grievances aside, for 7$ I can't think of another game that fills the nostalgia void as well as jsr while also providing a very unique gameplay experience that's extremely fun, goofy, and has so much personality. Myself and others are desperate for jsrf to be brought to steam, as that took everything good about jsr and expanded on it in a major way.
