Ill say... rushed, cheap, possible asset flip, low effort mobile port...

But...

It actually pretty damn fun... like most bullet heaven style "survivor-likes"... though this one bucks the bad survivor like pitfalls by actually providing escalating challenging scenarios, the power feel hits well because your forced to move a lot in some scenarios, pick your targets in an order that works for you in some and with character and weapon unlocks. The structure is not survivor like as its short levels... 100+ probably... your not getting levelup mods in level. You are mostly picking a weapon and character at the start, leveling them with coins after each level and pushing from level to level... lol what whole description has "level" a lot... srry. Anyway. Its fun... for preferably "free"... buuuuut if you missed the giveaway... its great for a 1$ or less.

A fun time, and a deeeeep discount recommend!

dude... wtf?

1. THIS IS NOT VR, just know that. if your coming from the quest for a more solid pc vr experience with more flexibility and customization... NO!... NOPE!

VR!? WHAT!? why would you expect that???

2. graphics are quest "2" quality...
3. performance is fine... not stuttering, lags, frame dropping etc... but there really isnt anything going on for that to be an issue... you would expect there to be some hardware stress... none, because nothing is happening here... the characters are pretty much ps2 npcs.
4. waaaaay too buggy to be available for purchase... even though it works fine on quest... no resposes, no voice acting... I.. I really dont know what the f**k this is doing on steam for sale. it's to early for early access dude... no.
5. literal "NO EFFORT" vr port, but it feels like a no effort mobile port. the menus and ui... i mean, esc doesnt bring up the menu... just asks you if you want to quit. tab brings up the popup game window unchanged from the quest. and the settings are there... no deep pc options. no graphics settings... so no bumping up to "ultra". to toggle window mode... "Alt+Enter"... etc etc....

DO NOT BUY THIS "NO EFFORT GARBAGE"! STICK TO THE QUEST VERSION IF YOU WANT TO TRY IT.... BUT EVENT THAT FEELS LIKE A CRIME TO RECOMMEND EVEN THOUGH IT IS LEGITIMATELY BETTER... but yeah... DO NOT BUY THIS!

DO NOT BUY THIS! I HAVE A DECENT MACHINE AND VR GAME ON IT AS WELL AS NEXT GEN FLAT STUFF WITH NO ISSUES... THIS IS NOT A CASE OF, "it didnt work for him, but it could work for me..." NO! DO NOT BUY THIS! SERIOUSLY...

NOOOOO!

VERDICT(copy/pasted from bottom):
THIS IS A MUST PLAY FOR EVRYONE. fans and non-fans of dungeon crawlers alike. This is THE MOST ACCESSIBLE AND GAMEPLAY RICH DUNGEON CRAWLERS IN OUR MODERN GAMING LANDSCAPE!

IF YOU CATCH A SALE, ITS A MUST BUY NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!! SERIOUSLY!

ANECDOTAL/DETAILS:
One of the best dungeon crawlers out... an extremely surprising gem for me. recommended to me long ago by an old friend. this game places "drawing your own maps" at the front and center with it built into the game with an extensive amount of tools to do so to your own personal liking. having the mapping aspect as a built in accessible near mandatory function makes this game less stressful to most, and incredibly relaxing if you like since you are truly learning your environment... documenting points of interest, creatures and etc which is like i said, a major part of the experience.

this version of the game has a ton of Quality of life features added to it along the lines of "auto fight", quick saving and etc.

building your party is not as intimidating as other dungeon crawlers... especially the ssi dnd games. the classes are interesting enough, the art is gorgeous! I wish I could buy an artbook for the game. AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

THIS IS A MUST PLAY FOR EVRYONE. fans and non-fans of dungeon crawlers alike. This is THE MOST ACCESSIBLE AND GAMEPLAY RICH DUNGEON CRAWLERS IN OUR MODERN GAMING LANDSCAPE! again, for both fans of the hunt and crawl aaaaand for those just looking to chill... this game is a true innovation with built in tools for an approach the console gamer has been excluded from for decades now.

i cant say it enough... the mapping aspect is THE BEST PART OF THIS GAME! you actually feel like a cartographer... oh also, this game is not bogged down by the typical anime japanese hours of dialogue in between gameplay. this is more along the lines of a game from the main line shin megami tensei series where Gameplay is first and foremost, while story is present and deep, but delivered without bloat. you spend a lot of time actually playing than you are stuck reading walls of text. such a fantastic game.

IF YOU CATCH A SALE, ITS A MUST BUY NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!! SERIOUSLY!

oh... also the skill trees are solid with a fun approach to unlocking certain skills with clearly communicated via visual node lines of the prerequisites and etc.

theres a lot more to praise... but i'll end it here.

BUY THIS!!!

ADDITIONAL NOTE:
I WISH THEY SOLD THE SOUNDTRACK WITH THE GAME!!!!!!!!!

A solid, tight action platformer roguelike with pretty stylish combat animation and ton of ways to play through various weapons, character fusion combos, crispy movement and the perk of applying... perks... to your existing actions that further enhance your preferences and ultimately makes you feel... like a god lol.

no but seriously, this is a must play at full price... if you can get it cheaper... its a no question, just buy it!!! purchase. the maps are interesting enough in their themes/style, but the "in-between" is where the fun is(not that the regular maps are boring, not at all). the in-between tests you with platforming, combat and boss challenges in the style of "trials"(not the term they use). they actually do something interesting here...

so the "in-between" is accessed through portal like tears during your standard playthrough, when you enter you will come across a traditional roguelike pathing(events) choice, you do this all with your character in the playspace, it's not a menu which is interesting. after choosing, you are teleported to the challenge... at the end of each, you will find the same event choice map to choose where you go next. juuuuuuuuust be aware... during platforming challenges, hazards are a "one-hit fail"... just be aware. if you fail, you get sent to the end with your option of where to continue your normal run from where you left off before getting side tracked with the "in-between" portal.

it's a lot of fun.

i'm assuming this might be a hidden gem... but support this team, this is a great game.

Most of what i love about "Marvel's Midnight Suns" is present here!

- environment interactivity
- position planning
- team attacks(sync attacks)
- field hazards
- character specialties

And more, all resulting in combat skill creativity and agency. Something i always wish for, and am disappointed that it isnt standard to most if not all modern tactical turn based combat games is the ability to undo.

- this has an undo button!
- also you can act in whichever order you like! You can move first and attack second or vice versa...

- you can move one character, move another and move your third to then jump back to which ever character and use their attack after... oooor you can move two characters... attack with one on those you moved then move your third or etc etc...
- the roguelike aspects and modifiers(skills and passives) are well utilized here.
- this is a very chill game that can become... not so chill if you choose...

Theres sooooo much to love here, an outstanding genre switch for metal slug.

THIS IS A HIGH RECOMMENDATION AT FULL PRICE SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF CONTROL YOU HAVE OVER EVERY ASPECT OF BATTLES. If its on sale... grab it, no question!!!!!

-important note... you can quit the game and jump back in at where you left off, whether thats in battle or etc.

"AY FREAKSHOW! your goin' nowhere... I gotcha for three minutes! three minutes of... playtime!"

Dude... easy recommend wtf lmao!!!!!

DETAILS:
no but seriously, the gameplay... dynamic economy, the unique approach to combat movement, artifacts.. simulated living world... there is a lot here to enjoy. the voice acting during story moments are fine, enjoyable if a bit limited in range. it's not a negative at all... it does make the story easier to digest.

MAJOR NOTE: "Age of Fear Free World" is not a good representation of this game at it's finest to any degree... Free World is more of a demo of the series' combat without the prep or customization of the full game which does drastically change the feel of combat A LOOOOT! also, battle tasks seem to be waaay more enjoyable in the full games. battle tasks are optional challenges that appear for each missions that when accomplished, provides bonus rewards for each battle.

there is a loooot of content here, and a surprising amount of agency. outside of combat there are narrative events that trigger and are presented via dnd prompt window that provides story with voice acting and player choices that do actually have consequence.

open world events and the option of daily open world events to be refreshed is great, but to be clear, the open world is clickable boxes that pop up on the map... your not controlling a character with the ability to walk around... just dont go in assuming that. it does not detract at all though from this game. the quirky character voice acting in battles just... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I love the references lol. theres a lot, and its seriously great and brings a bit of levity to the aspects of battle that can be stressful(stressful lie any other game, not unique to this. not jank, its pretty polished).

thats another point... contrary to the appearance and the game's art work, this game is vey mechanically polished.

VERDICT:
this is a must grab at full price! An easy recommend... and if on sale, GRAB IT!!!
easy to pick up and play, save anywhere even during any aspect of combat, fun reference humor, tons of surprising depth and etc etc...

(UPDATE AFTER 30hrs)
uhhh, so this is a new favorite of mine now.. SUPPORT THIS DEV lol :3 seriously though, it's a very addictive and solid experience for both those looking to master the battlefield or just looking to chillout.

(RESPONSE TO THE DEVELOPER'S COMMENT AT THE BOTTOM :3)

REVIEW:
no search bar, still forced to code with impractical abstractions(if you want to create a double jump, you cant simply check if player is grounded or jumping without the impractical approach of establishing a reletive norm through an extended check on the player's regular y pos in relation to blah blah blah...).

this suffers the same issue that textual coding does... the issue that would have you choose a visual editor in the first place for a seasoned coder or newbie all the same.

not knowing where to start, what blocks to use, where they are located, forced to create long lines of impractical code to do very simple things.

to be honest... if there was a search bar... it would make this entirely usable being that you would know what does exist and what doesnt. as well as what can be done vs what cant... which does make coding more accessible and less intimidating. thats kind of why tools like "playmaker" succeeds so well.

anyway... rough, not worth 30$... sorry... I wish I could support this. it's a cool effort and one sorely needed... but it comes off as redundant... even when rarely on sale for 9$... still not worth it. just a headache... just like textual coding.

UPDATE/RESPONSE TO DEVELOPER:
Awesome response, sincerely lol. I am really feeling the sting of the refund... I'll own that though, thats on me :3. I was 100% conflicted with whether or not I should refund it because you never know how... aware some developers are. lol, totally regretting it, but again... thats on me... this was an awesome response... an update that not only adds a search function(my main issue), but ALSOOOOO you added tons of functional support for extremely relevant popular engines. thats nuts...

seriously, awesome response @GameDev_ToolMaker ... sincerely. I cant say that enough. I will hopefully be grabbing it again in the future... (a monetary thing on my end... not a judgement of value).

p.s.
not calling gameguru "irrelevant" in relation to the others... it's awesome. just to be clear, :3. thanks for the response though... it's worth the sting. cant say it enough... it's a seriously awesome response lol. bravo :3

VERY UNDERRATED...
EXTREMLEY FUN AND EASY TO HOP IN AND OUT OF...
AN EASY RECOMMEND AT 15$, A MUST GRAB AT 5$ OR LESS!

as a solo player, Killsquad does offer a seriously fun loop of DODGE, SHOOT, LOOT. a core element that truly carries the game's feedback loop is the enemy variety and the conditions of the challenges in each contract. now when I talk about "Challenges" I am discussing the conditions that elevate a mission from the simple shoot everything to having a more puzzle like focus while managing the crowds of enemies... some challenges require you to perform typical tasks like escort a vehicle, defend a set point, and etc to more unique concepts like having a boss be invulnerable because they are shielded by 2 or 3 minions similar to diablo 4's public events. there are other tasks that strip the enemies to focus on traversal and carrying objects to unlock gates and stuff... those are fun for sure.

an interesting thing that I felt mixed on but ultimately I accepted was the visual aspect to loot. this is a bit like... marvel's avengers where the weapons all have the same projectile while the guns all look different. it threw me off a bit but you easily get over it. the perks and effects weapons have are really fun to synergize with and the perk unlock approach for each weapon is a nice form of evolving a weapon.

the approach of their skill trees are pretty similar in the best ways to diablo 3 or 4 where you can unlock multiple skill modifiers but only enable a few. on top of that, the approach to using those skills in each mission is pretty unique... and does add a fun element of becoming more badass as you push through the mission. skill modifiers are designated to a specific level tier in the mission, meaning you start at level 1, with the basic unmodified skills... as you gain levels, your modifiers begin to unlock, evolving your skills through your tailored loudout as you progress in each level. it does keep the gamplay fresh being that your forced to manage with your skills in their beasic form before seeing the fruit of your labors when they become notivibly enhanced as your grow level to level in each mission. it's a lot of fin for sure.

I expected jank... but there is actually very little jank if any at all... it's pretty tight and polished.

the characters all play very differently which is a bonus... and the cosmetics are... fun.

the main aspect of this game that I recommend is that adductive looter shooter game loop and the variety of challenges it provides making each contract fun, even if it is in the same map you see form time to time. the grind was expected, but it's actually not really needed unless your like me, obsessed with maxing out what gear and etc i have at the time before moving forward.

this game is great...I would say easily worth 15$... a must grab if you find it for anything less than 5$!

I highly recommend this to any solo looter enthusiast. an absolute good time!

Sadly useless for me, but may be a great introduction for developers to be(and professional devs with projects of a smaller scale.

Unfortunately very rigid and restrictive, but still totally usable to develop full projects within reasonable scale.
- restricted local variables with no ability to add more.
- no built in tile editor.
- requires unity to compile for mobile.
+ very user friendly ui.
+ does not limit complexity necessarily.
+ readable/visual node/link based programming(your branching text can be easier to follow without getting lost, unlike rpgm's wall of text event commands, which makes it difficult to easily find specific parts of your branching text)
+ built in save system...
+ surprisingly customizable and controlable camera(great for cinematic angles and fixed camera systems like resident evil.

I... recommend this at a deep sale, but their are better tools out there... including rpg maker mv.
