ABSOLUTELY a must-have VR game. At first I felt like the game was just too glitchy and derpy and the weapons sucked, but after playing through the game a little bit more and resetting my calibration everything feels really good. Melee weapons work exactly as you'd expect and can be used in nonconventional ways, i.e. you can stab a knife into an ammo crate that's out of reach and pull it towards you, or you can hook crowbars and axes onto ledges that are out of reach and pull yourself up, or you can take knives and stab them into a shield to make a spiked shield, or you can pick up items and put them in a trashcan and drag it around with you. Anything that you *think* should be possible in a physics sandbox *is* possible here.

The story is a little hard to follow in-game if you're not paying attention, but the story is not that important and if you read one of the fan theories it will make much more sense. The story itself isn't anything mindblowing to be honest but everything else about the game more than makes up for it. Do note that the story is very closely related and ties into to Duck Season, which I have not played.

Replayability is quite good because every level can play out differently depending on how you choose to play in that instance. You can do melee only, guns only, mixture, you can play like a murderous psychopath and grab enemies by the necks and slit their throats and headbutt headcrabs/"crablets" that jump at you (yes you can headbutt in this game - your entire body is a physics object and you can headbutt enemies to death with enough determination), or you can play tactically and drop down on enemies or take them out from behind, or you can play like it's Half Life 2 and just shoot at everything that moves. You can play as a hobo and only use bricks and lead pipes and trash can lids as your weapons or you can throw barrels and crates at enemies. It's a sandbox in the best sense of the word, you're free to do whatever you want. The developers even encourage you to break the game, so feel free to use crowbars to climb into weird places like you're in the antarctic using icepicks to climb up a wall. Replaying levels is also required to collect all of the ammo in each level which is used as currency at Monomat vending machines, which can be used to buy weapons at the start of the next level (instead of finding them scattered about in the level) or in one of the final levels to buy extremely expensive and incredibly entertaining developer weapons that can be used in any level in the game or in sandbox mode.

Weapons in general are quite good and work as expected in a physics sandbox. They're all powerful enough without feeling too powerful - Half Life 2's SMG and Pistol feel very similar in terms of strength against enemies, if a bit weaker than Boneworks' guns. Bladed melee weapons are a ton of fun to use and require relatively low skill to use but there is a lot of mastery that you can put into it for more entertaining kills. Blunt weapons are better used against crates and planks but with practice they can be just as effective as bladed weapons, and they can also be mastered for entertaining kills. You can even "glitch" the game by stabbing knives into some flat weapons like the shovel and trash can lids or shields and make spiked weapons that are quite fun to use. The "dev weapons" are an absolute joy to play with but I will decline to go in-depth so as not to ruin the fun of learning how they work and what they're capable of, though do note that gravity plates can be force pulled while locked ;)

The graphics are good for a VR game. Textures can look a little blurry in some places but given just how hard the game is to run at a high framerate it is understandable that some corners need to be cut to maintain a good experience. Lighting and shadows are perfectly fine though and can be adjusted in-game. Do note that you will need substantially more CPU power than most other VR games due to the absurd amount of physics objects, I use a Xeon E5-2640 v3 (basically an 8-core i7-4770) and it is consistently pinned at 30-40% utilization while my RX 5700 XT Nitro+ sits ~30% at high settings. For comparison my CPU sits at ~10-20% utilization and GPU at ~20% in Pavlov at max settings. Don't think "oh well his CPU gets 20 points in X benchmark and mine gets 10, so mine will work fine at 60-80% utilization" because utilization is tied to your frametimes, and high utilization can cause long delays between frames. My CPU has a relatively low clock speed compared to many newer CPUs though, so take that with a grain of salt.

The controls are good as well and I have played several hours with the Oculus Rift Touch controllers, the HTC Vive wands, and the Valve Index controllers. There are only 2 buttons that are used for actions (jump and menu) The game is equally playable on all controllers but the HTC Vive controllers suck for use with melee weapons because you must hold the grip button at all times or you will drop your weapon. This is not the case with rifles and pistols, you just click the grip once and if you let go you will not drop the gun. I suspect that the melee weapon issue can be fixed with a custom toggle binding to emulate Pavlov's grip setup. Everything else is practically the same, though if you have the option I do recommend using the Valve Index controllers because they're the most natural for using your hands to climb and grab.

EDIT: Do note that I have substantially more time in the game than my review shows. I've got at least 40 hours at the time of writing (vs the claimed 13) - I haven't had internet at home for almost 2 weeks now and Steam cannot update playtime while in offline mode.

10/10 music and atmosphere, solid gameplay, awesome characters. Snatcher is DEFINITELY up there with GLaDOS as far as funny characters go. Workshop support for new items, maps, characters, paint jobs, etc is also a huge bonus. Play A Hat in Time with Cappy and the F.L.U.D.D from Super Mario Sunshine? Why not?

Definitely recommend getting the DLC's as well. The base game is great in its own right but Seal the Deal adds Deathwish mode for people that feel like the base game was too easy, and Nyakuza Metro adds Online Party mode and adds a 6th world to the game that's by far one of the biggest and most densely packed. Also adds a boatload of new paint jobs, including a Guy Fieri paint job and Team Fortress 2 paints!

Egg.
