Oh, btw, this game is pretty fun! I've played not toooo too much and mostly Solo Dives, but it's pretty dang good! Highly recommend!

This game is pretty dang good, got it on both PS4 and PC and I think I prefer the PC version. Will probably get the sequel when it comes on sale next! :D

Have you played STALKER or Metro and wanted something a bit different but still just as atmospheric?

Give Pacific Drive a test drive.

Pacific Drive is a Driving/Resource Gathering/Story-focused Rogue Like. I know that doesn't sound interesting, but trust me, if you like looting and exploring and enjoying the sights, PD has that in spades.

I also need to highlight just how well this game NAILS it's atmosphere. Holy crap is it ever good. Driving around cracked, sun bleached and overgrown back roads in a pacific northwest woods. Wading through a marsh with flora and fauna (if you can call the various anomalies fauna) from a different world. Parking along a scenic overlook to see a massive anomaly that looks like it was pulled directly from the pages of Roadside Picnic (When you get to Sierram for the first time... honestly gave me goosebumps)

The gameplay loop is pretty simple, chart a trip, stock up for the trip at your homebase, head to the location, loot/search/explore/complete a quest, get enough of the weird ARC stuff, pick and activate a gateway home, DRIVE (!!!), get back home (hopefully), research and outfit and upgrade for the next outing, repeat.

If after all that text you're still here and still interested, give Pacific Drive a try.

It's an awesome game to watch, but I don't have the time unfortunately at the moment to sink the required time into learning the mechanics.

If you've got the time to learn everything, I would recommend it, but if you're thinking this looks like a smaller fleet based homeworld-esque point and click game. It's very much not that. It's got a learning curve that can and will catch you off guard.

Just sucks that I don't have the time to learn it yet... I'll probably pick this up after it leaves Early Access, some of the UI is a bit unintuitive and the learning curve (again) is a bit steep.

How... HOW is this game so damn good.

It's nothing but a perfect 10.

Only game I've ever refunded on Steam... Such a buggy and crashy mess, didn't even get 30 minutes into the game because of the instabilities.

Edit After Repurchase and new hardware/PC:

So, long story short, got a new PC.

Rebought the game recently because of the Steam Summer Sale, and here I am updating this review.

Game works more of less flawlessly (There are some odd quirks with the game switching between monitors for some reason, but a simple quit and restart the game fixes those issues.) It's everything I had hoped an open world Metro game would be.

Do I recommend it now? I will leave it still on no, as I have barely scratched the surface of the game, not sure if I'll run into more bugs or come across something that'd turn me off of the game, I'm hoping there's not.

And if you're wondering about specs pre upgrade:

CPU: i7-3770
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: 16GB

Compared to New system:
CPU: i7-9700f
GPU: RTX 2070 8GB
RAM: 16GB

So, here's my updated review, still gonna say it's a no. I ran into a pretty huge bug on the Caspian level that really turned me off of completing the game, as I'm kind of a completionist when it comes to exploration and what not.

There's a very *very* specific spot in the Caspian level, at least for me, that causes the game to crash within 30-60 seconds if I get within a certain radius of one of the bandit camps. I can clear the camp out and then it'll crash, or I can drive by it and crash shortly afterwards, I can get close and then turn around and leave in the opposite direction and it'll still cause the game to crash.

Really turned me off of completing the game... I might go back to it and just ignore that point on the map...

I also don't know if this is a RTX only issue as I was playing on the enhanced version (honestly it looks, run and loads faster than the original version for some reason...)

Doom, Duke3D, Quake, Quake 2, Blood.

If you've grown up with these titles and yearn to play something like that and be a kid again.

Dusk is that game.

-HUNT FOR ARTIFACTS
-DODGE DANGEROUS ANOMOLIES
-HIDE FROM EMISSIONS/BLOWOUTS THAT WILL INSTA-KILL YOU IF YOU'RE UNLUCKY TO FIND COVER
-OVER 300 AI Controlled S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s living out their lives in the Zone (It's like a First Person MMO, but without the MMO!)

But seriously, this game is hard even on the easiest level. But it's VERY much worth it.

You'll get about 20-30 hours of play your first time through. After that, you can download any of the numerous mods out there to make the game harder, more pretty or just down right impossibly hard.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC, is one of those few games that a lot of people have heard about, but few have really played. But those who do, can't compare it to anything else, and compare everything like it, to it. Shadow of Chernobyl, is the first in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy (Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky and Call Of Pripyat) and is one of the most liked out of the series. It's Similar to games of the Genre, like Fallout 3, but it also has a slight MMO feel to it. I recommend if you buy SoC, to play it first without any mods, when that's over and done with. Move onto one of the numerous mods that changes and adds so much more to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience (Complete 2009, Oblivion Lost). That's it, now "Get out of here, Stalker!" And buy Shadow of Chernobyl!
