Honestly, after pouring in almost a 1000 hours (yikes), I had tons of fun with this game. But that is pretty much after fine-tuning every aspect of ballerina-style messer dancing as a knight, and trolling people as an archer, and doing reverse overheads and all that sort of broken mechanics that Chivalry became (in)famous for. Abusing these mechanics to the fullest and spamming voice commands is what can make Chivalry a hilarious game to play. It's the reason I still come back to it so often.

But it's a very unwelcoming experience to new players. I learned all of these tricks years ago, when there was still a somewhat large playerbase with a lot of people falling into a wide range of skill levels. These days, pretty much only a more "hardcore" player base remains. I imagine the learning curve is that much harder for it. In my estimation, if you don't put in 100 hours MINIMUM you pretty much won't enjoy the game. People will attack you in ways so alien and unrecognizable that you'll likely just give up and put the game away. The community likely won't be of much help either. And the devs have long since forgotten about this game (my advice, don't buy Chivalry 2, it's likely not going to improve much).

If you're looking to try something in this genre, have a look at alternatives such as Mordhau. The heyday of Chivalry is long past.
