can mark this game off my backlog lol it just freezes and crashes repeatedly

Beautiful art and atmosphere, with a wonderful ost to accompany. However, the combat is EXTREMELY tedious and random encounters are unbelievably frequent, it just made the game a drag to play by the time I got to the third stratum.

I sighed and/or rolled my eyes every time I got a random encounter when I was just trying to get back to the floor I left off on, as the game made me teleport back to town even when I wanted to keep going. That really wouldn't have been an issue if it didn't make me back-track through the floors I had already cleared, stopping every 10 steps for another monotonous battle.

I guess the Etrian Odyssey series is just not for me, but I can totally see the appeal!

can't transfer my 8+ year old character for some unknown reason (R* themselves literally stated they don't know the reason), meaning this is a "free upgrade" in which I would have to start all over, just for slightly better graphics, some new cars, and a removed chat function. nope !

can we get more games like this instead of generic AAA slop

legitimately addicting game. It's like a "pseudo-MMO" in the sense that it has MMO aspects but servers have a max of like 20 players. Aside from the weird furry parts of the character creation, the art style is super charming and reminiscent of classic ps1, n64, or dreamcast games. The whole atmosphere reminds me of Phantasy Star.

The combat is really smooth and fluid which contributes to the games addicting nature. Theres not a lot of content right now, maybe around ~6 hours to complete the story on one character, but you can make a new character on another class to re-experience the story/game from a new angle. also its made by just 1 person so it makes sense theres not a lot of content right now, but for the price, its 100% worth it. very fun and addicting!!!

It's like Persona 5 but without the social/romance sim. The game is probably like 90% combat/action and 10% everything else, so if you enjoyed Persona 5 but wished you could stay in the palaces for longer or do more of them, this is your game. This game also focuses way more on the demons themselves, giving them more lore through unique dialogue with each demon as well as some demons even having their own questlines.

The story itself is entirely based on the demons and mythology in general, and if you're familiar with any mythology you'll find yourself recognizing a lot of figures either by appearance or by name. Regardless this is a phenomenal JRPG that I really enjoyed my time with. The character/demon designs are fantastic, the music beats out Persona 5 in my opinion, with Persona 5 having a more jazz-focused soundtrack, whereas SMT V has a more ambient, atmospheric, and even futuristic sounding soundtrack with bits of EDM and rock sprinkled throughout some tracks. 100% recommend if you enjoyed the Persona series or even just enjoy JRPGs in general.
