Good game, very fun, but I would've liked an endless mode to consume an entire city. Wouldn't be a mode I'd play for LONG, but it'd be something to do afterwards. Get it on sale though, you're really not gonna be playing long.

Banger game, honestly recommend pouring your whole life into it until it's 100%'d.
I beat this game on PC years ago, no major issues. Just finished 100%ing the game on my Switch today, so I thought I'd drop a review in for this version.
Only thing I'll say is get the stud multiplier red bricks before you even bother with the True Wizard gold bricks and don't be afraid to look things up as your draw towards your final collectables. No shame in losing track.
I kinda miss this style of Lego game now that the few we get are all full dialogue and kinda overproduced.

I rounded out my playthrough of the main story about a week or so ago, beating Intermission about a day before Rebirth's PC release. I'm not exactly new to FFVII, but I never actually beat it. On PC, I got to about Disc 2 back in 2019 but for one reason or another gave up there. On Switch, I've recently passed that point so I'm still ahead of where this one left off.
FFVII Remake won't be everyone's kind of remake. It's not even REALLY a remake. Kind of. It's kind of hard to explain without diving into spoilers.
Whereas FFVII is a turn based game, albeit one with what was at the time a neat little twist, Remake is not turn based at all. It's an Action/RPG and therefore for players like me who aren't massive RPG guys, it makes the game a lot easier to get into.
Story wise, this game is mostly pretty good. The decision to stretch Disc 1 out into a 40 hour game is certainly one many may question, but I do think it mostly benefits the story. Until Chapter 16. At that point I was ready for it to be over. The changes, well they're something I'm very interested in why they did it. It's not like the usual changes remakes make, where they adapted to modern sensitivities. These changes were made for purely creative reasons, and I'm not sure what their end goal is outside of one particular thing that I think anyone with even passing familiarity with the original game could figure out. The voice acting also really lends itself to these characters. Barrett in particular is an absolute delight.
Graphically, the game is gorgeous. It is everything players had hoped for since that PS3 tech demo of Midgar.
And world wise, Midgar's not the most fun thing in the world to explore. It's not TERRIBLE, but I was kind of over it after a bit of running around for sidequests. Though there was the slight benefit of the fact that fast travel is eventually unlocked.
If there's one thing I want to thank Remake for though, it's teaching me more about the Materia system which isn't overly different than it was in the original so that I could make myself more effective in the original game so that I stand half a chance of actually not being spoiled by random flashforwards in Rebirth.
I don't think many people, if anyone, are playing FFVII like I am. It's actually a madman's game. Because I have now started Rebirth too.
Yeah, get this game. I loved it for the most part.
If only my equipment and the like had carried over to Rebirth...

Star Wars Dark Forces was always a bit of a weird one to me. I played it. I finished it. But I didn't think much of it. Why? Because getting the damn thing working was probably more hassle than it was worth. The level design is good, if a little obtuse, the music is as repetitive as you would probably think and the graphics were on par with DOOM. Luckily, I'm very fond of DOOM.
Now, a Dark Forces remaster is the kind of thing that you hear on and off about for half a decade before assuming that fan efforts will die out and there are a million other SW games Disney would rather pay to get remastered before Dark Forces, a game overshadowed by its sequels. But then I started hearing word of this remaster. I didn't get it initially, on account of it being £30 and all, but I did hear they'd done a phenomenal job at it. So I picked it up on Switch, gave it a shot, put it down so I could go be productive in life, then last night I chose to double dip on the game and, despite needing to be productive, have spent a couple of hours today going through the Imperial Detention Centre because I'm a dumb dumb who forgot how the laser gates work.
The game's utterly brilliant. Sure, the music's a 90s DOS game's music and even the remastered OST doesn't REALLY save it from its own repetitiveness. The controls are so much better and it's easier to multitask while playing the game, something that old games tend to struggle with more than new ones. And, get this, the initial prototype level is in this remaster. The Avenger, in its full glory, has found itself playable here. Which is the kind of thing that gets extra points from me, someone who is obsessed with the development histories of games. Take notes, Nintendo. Next remaster from you should have some beta content on the game.
Now, as I said before, the game's level design can get obtuse. The game doesn't tell you that when those laser gates aren't flashing you can walk through them. You're supposed to figure that out while shooting enemies through them but I had initially believed that to be a collision thing rather than a game design one. Basically, I'm stupid. But when you figure these things out, or look up a guide because you've gone in circles too much, you find yourself feeling good about yourself.
As a DOOM clone, Dark Forces has secrets all around the level you can find. Finding them just leads to more weapons and ammo, or Revives which max out your health and shield, which is a far cry from their uses in Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith where secrets may grant you extra Force points to use on powers but I'd still say it's worth seeking some of these out for things like rocket launchers and repeaters.
If you're a younger gamer getting into Dark Forces for the first time due to the remake, this obtuse game design may put you off but try to tough it out. I believe you won't regret it. The achievement system in the game will make you feel good as well, as you even get achievements for a couple of optional kills.
And if this is your first time with the series, Jedi Knight is a brilliant sequel to this game. While also very dated, it has mods that can help you improve its functionality to if you like Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors, I can't recommend this series enough.

Now, let it be known that what I've played so far is compelling. It's PROBABLY a great game. But the framerates are unacceptable.
There is never an excuse for poor PC ports. And so long as this port remains bad, my bad review will remain.
£60 for those framerates is not okay.
Also, get rid of Denuvo. Players for years have been talking about how rubbish it is. The fact you think it's okay to include it here is astonishing.
Don't buy the game yet. Just don't do it. I probably shouldn't have.
Not okay, EA.
Update: 02/05/2023
You'll notice that despite the update I haven't made the review positive. The game itself is good. But there's yet ANOTHER issue.
Thanks to EA's ridiculous service, my save data (14 hours of save data) keeps trying to not sync. This is why when we purchase a game on Steam, we expect it to run right off of Steam. NOT EA. Enough of the nonsense now.

It really just isn't good in the slightest, I can't lie.
Too slow, awful physics, awful level design, awful graphics.
You want a successor to the glory that is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, go play Sonic Mania. The Taxman rules all.

Not beaten the game yet, probably not even close but it is absolutely an amazing game. I've been sinking a lot of my free time into it.
Not played it yet?
Play it, beat it, get ready for Forbidden West. Because I think we're all in for a ride.

This game is a broken, buggy, tedious mess.
But you can fix this.
The story, while nothing special, is decent enough considering the type of game this is.
But fix this.
Add options, fix the freezes when facing the Cyber Reaper on Mars, fix the collisions on that spaceship with the anti grav to avoid players being clipped out of the ship.
And it's a little unintuitive.
I've played the entire game now and I can't recommend this. Do better.

I hear this is abandonware now. Found a code in a PC Gamer magazine 4 years ago and played very little. Was never great. Shameful.

Try not to break your animations. It seems stupid, but I've done it and if you do you can't use horses or do any crafting.
