Repetetive "horror" walking simulator. Game teleports you around if it doesn't like where you're going, paths are very unclear sometimes. Ellis' trauma only fulfills an overdone trope and I found myself frankly not giving a ♥♥♥♥ about the guy. Boohoo white guy kills brown people and now I'm supposed to emphatize with him. The whole wife/Jess thing is just another stacked cliché.

The dog mechanics were cool I guess, until they took away the dog. Immeasureable amount of bugs that required save resets/restarting. Too much random ♥♥♥♥ going on to make a cohesive story, some psych notes here and a kidnapped kid there, also my wife hates me and I'm sad because I got my buddies killed in Iraq or something. Story has multiple endings afaik, the one I got was extremely predictable and boring.

The game is super repetetive and sends you back to the same location multiple times (♥♥♥♥ that tent), and the end section with the house was just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slog ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Felt like babies first unity horror project. Boring, Loud, flashing lights that induce nausea. ♥♥♥♥ you Bloober team.

This is a bad game and not worth playing. I decided to buy it as it was on sale, and I finished the game 2 different times as it has 2 endings. TLDR: Glorification of abuse, rape and pedophilia and victimblaming a minor for what happened to her.

Indepth (spoilers) below.

You play the game as a woman by the name of Nicole having inherited a somewhat rundown hotel from her now deceased parents. Your character grew up in this hotel but has lost her memories of the past. You end up having to stay at the hotel for 9 days due to the bad weather which results in getting a call from a FEMA agent.

The agent tells you about the girl that supposedly committed suicide, and he essentially makes it your role to find out what happened to Rachel and why she committed suicide.
I become increasingly frustrated with how the player character reacts to the information she finds out about her parents and Rachel. Much like her father, Nicole views the romanticized and obsessive point of view and blames Rachel for "ruining 2 families" as the FEMA agent describes in a call. (Implying that Rachel is selfish for having committed suicide, destroying Nicole's and her own family). The way the writers frame the love Nicole's father, Leonard for this young girl is vile. They frame the man 30 years her senior as a well educated and being full of love, never being able to do any harm - quote Nicole multiple times saying "My father is no murderer" or "My father would never do that" while simultaneously acknowledging yet minimizing that he groomed a child he was in a position of power over (Being her teacher).
On the 9th day you find out that Rachel did not commit suicide, and was instead murdered by Nicole's mother in a fit of jealous rage, though her being jealous is hinted multiple times. The game repeatedly tries to show a mature image of Rachel, like her wearing makeup and us being told she was "mature for her age", older looking. This makes no difference to me, it's still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ vile.

The way the adults in this story repeatedly fail to protect a child, and on top of it having a grown woman be jealous of a literal child - you find out that the FEMA agent had purposely trapped you in the hotel to force you to uncover all of this, and then he also commits suicide because "His job here is done".
In the end you don't even get a choice over what you do, such as report everything you find out (which the brother could've done in the first place instead of traumatize someone with already suggested repressed memories) - you instead are forced to commit suicide to quote "all be together again".


The game could've been so much better, in so many ways, but I sincerely hope this writer educates themselves for their future works. It sincerely makes me question what the writers and people that worked on this game think about realistic grooming situations.
People constantly talk about the atmosphere in the game, but honestly, the atmosphere is literally the only thing going for this game. I genuinely wish I didn't buy this game, as much as the voice actors were great and the atmosphere was good, the writers have made sure I will never support this studio again.

How in the ♥♥♥♥ do you (MULTIPLE PEOPLE WORKING ON THIS GAME) go through so many hoops, multiple years of developmenet and not stop to think once, not even for one second "hey, maybe we shouldn't paint pedophiles as sympathetic mistunderstood "people", and maybe childrapists SHOULD be judged for the subhuman scum they are because children can't consent, especially not if the adult is in a position of power over them!"
I hope to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ god this writer never gets a job again
