Risk of Rain Returns is a back to form remake of the original with tons of improvements, smoother gameplay, a lot of additions, better UI, better controls, and all around just a fantastic remake.

Fun and simple zoo tycoon style game.
Has a fun sense of humor and a cute art style.
Not difficult but definitely gives you a lot of freedom. You gradually unlock most of the buildings, and decorative elements.

This game while still rough is enjoyable and difficult. The game is still under active development from what I can see and improvements are being made on the short comings. For an easy to pickup and drop roguelite dungeon crawler it's fun.

you need this game. YOU NEED THIS GAME. did I mention you need this game? No? Ok. Well you need it. You may not think you need it but you need it. Do you like the binding of isaac? if yes buy this game. Do you like rythm games? Buy it. do you like Skeletons that wiggle? This game has it. Do you like simple mechanics but hard to master? This game has it. The devs of this game are awsome. Oh did you know they have necrodancer themed DDR pads? well they do infact they are being sold at the regular price and the devs aren't even taking a cut.

Seriously this may sound like i'm joking but you need this game.

Edit:
this game has multiple modes
Normal mode where unlocks you purcahse with gems (found while playing the game) and beating a zone brings you to the menu
hardcore mode which means you get none of the upgrades and start with only 2 HP. you must beat all zones to complete it.
Other variants that involve characters that augment the game such as making the game in double time or miss a beat and you die.
Daily challenge like spelunky. A seeded run that you get one chance per day.

You are able to use your own music if you so choose but the soundtrack itself is amazing.

This game is very difficult but rewarding and it's continually improving.
