Personally, I'd rather find the best challenge I can and then try to carry a team. Stats are just an indicator because they won't tell you how capable a player is of doing that -- you only find out when you play against them.
For me the most satisfying thing in the game is running into a big party full of guys who think they're they best because they always play together and have huge KDR's/SPM because of stomping lobbies together with streaks -- they're used to anyone good leaving because they're worried about wrecking their stats. But I don't leave...
My stats on my "try hard for stats" account are 6kd+ 500-ishspm TDM and 800ish SPM DOM. This becomes pretty apparent when you go on my youtube channel and see me wreck a full party of 4kd+ guys with 500spm. Meh... playing for stats is boring.
