In a sense it's easier than normal minesweeper, because you have more edges from which to attack, The chance of a configuration in which you are forced to guess appears to be lower (idk if thats actually true but it seems to be reasonable to me), but that's only if you can keep track of how everything connects. The fact that everything is customizable is nice. I spend a few minutes just generating new rounds with increasing numbers of dimensions and that kinda helped me comprehend how to think about how everything is represented. I think I recommend just doing a 3d game first to get a hang of thinking about mines on different planes. The fact that all this customization is available for free is awesome.

I'll be blunt, a lot of the time this game is frustrating, the enemy ai is mostly unpredictable and nonsensical. I don't think this game is necessarily worth 30 bucks to most people who just want a pain free experience. However, that feeling of unease I felt when I first loaded into a "night shift" version of a map and seeing mountains of corpses and ash/snow covering the entire landscape. or that awestruck feeling of finally seeing Mother Courage roaming above the red haze of Ashen Mesa, hearing the booming footsteps in the distance...

Few games are willing to put you in straight up unfair situations, but this game has plenty of those. Few games are willing to punish a player's greed like this game is. Sometimes it is an unforeseen glitch that killed me, but sometimes it was a simple lack of caution, a lack of knowing when to stop gambling and just walk away. I give my money and my review in the hopes that this game continues to be improved, especially AI animation and behavior, so that when I close the game in rage, its less often due to a glitch, and more often due to my own lack of foresight.

Many games are power trips, many games have obstacles that can be overcome with enough tries or skill. This game is humbling. You aren't one of the soldiers fighting in the trenches, you are the rat scavenging the soldiers corpses. At any moment the mech walking next to you could fire a single shot and obliterate you without a single consequence, and sometimes they do, but usually they have bigger fish to fry.

TLDR: BUY IT

This game is unlike any other city builder. This game is art. I've never experienced anything like it. The people who made this game started with a goal: to portray hope, hopelessness, desperation, and resignation in the face of a slow freezing death. They wanted to portray a story of humanity's desperate attempt to use technology and determination to save itself from the cold. They wanted the player to realize the weight of their decisions when it is too late to change them. They wanted the player to sit uneasy in the calm before the storm, only able to hope that they have done enough. Then, they meticulously crafted every aspect of the game to meet this goal. Every single element works together in harmony. The music, the sound design, the visuals, the writing, the story progression, and the game-play all work together. Nothing feels out of place, everything has a clear purpose and adds something to this overall singular feeling: desperate resignation. All games are technically art, but this game feels like it was made to do more than be fun and make money. It was made from the heart, a cold heart.

Balancing resources, managing happiness, citizens complaining, the decay of your morality, downward spiral, distract them with alcohol, brainwash them, it gets colder, downward spiral, make their children work, it gets colder, round up the non believers, it gets colder, leave the children behind, downward spiral, it gets colder, spend lives to save the coal mines, it gets colder, ice crystals form in you're lungs, it gets colder, your tears freeze your eyes shut, it gets colder, the air is ripped from your lungs, it gets colder, still ever colder. The city must survive.

HELL HAS FROZEN OVER

It's very obviously a low budget game, but it provides a nice one off escape room style experience. Some of the puzzles are definitely more interesting than others, but overall if you like puzzles and have a friend to play with I think its worth it.

Many games claim that they let you creatively approach problems and objectives, but few are truly comfortable with setting you free into their world. There's always only a few planned ways to go about things. This game is one of the few that delivers on its promise.

This game pretty much sets you free to roam the world (most of the time), As you progress, your options for getting into new areas grow. Take for example a door blocked by a large box. you could:

-destroy the box with a recycler grenade
-move the box with strength perks
-move the box with telekenesis perks
-turn into a cup and squeeze by the box
-teleport past the box
-probably other stuff I haven't even thought of

I've never encountered a game where the world made so much sense. Every single one of the 50+ crewmembers on the space station has a room, they all are employed in a certain place, you can find EVERY ONE OF THEM dead or alive, and you can find out what they all were doing shortly before everything went to ♥♥♥♥ on the station. There's recreation areas, areas for station visitors, a tunnel system for supplies to easily move around the station, different experiment labs, repair shops, secret research areas, and a control center for the station-wide looking glass system (basically A 3D screen). In fact, to just give a taste of the level of detail in this game, you can find a looking glass screen that is under repair, and it is flashing a multicolor grid testing the colors of the screen, similar to how you would test a real life screen after repairing it, except it's a 3 dimensional version because the looking glass is 3 dimensional. That is such a minor detail but it shows the thought and care that went in to the design of the world. It makes perfect sense to have such a testing graphic, and it would indeed test the color balance of the screen.

Despite having widely varied areas with different visual styles, it all feels like one connected space station. It feels like it would really exist and work in real life (besides all the sci fi technology). The feeling of slowly becoming familiar with the station, learning what areas connect, and learning the safest way through areas, is truly a wonderful feeling.

Also the story is great on top of all this, If you couldn't tell, I love this game.

Tl,DR: 9/10 Extremely satisfying sounds and animations make for an adorable snap-fit lego space adventure

An adorable little game. The way every component is modular and clicks together in nice ways is deeply satisfying in a tactile way. It's like little cute Lego pieces that are also functional. Everything has little cute animations and configurations for different situations, like how items like the small 3d printer and small turbine are collapsed when you are carrying them, but when you place them, they unfold, or how the basic 2x2 storage has 2 configurations it can slide between, or how the centrifuge injects soil into each of it's revolving chambers before spinning (I love the centrifuge animations), You can find all sorts of weird ways to configure your vehicles, maybe taking off some vital component just for a little extra storage space, There Is automation parts that I could see being made into really complicated factories, but you can also just use them to automate simple easy tasks. Everything is feels so physical I can imagine how each part would feel in my palm. Most UI elements are either built into machines or pop out of machines and have buttons that can be pressed with the mouse, The batteries visually fill up with accompanying satisfying noises. There is no power grid UI at all in fact, you only have to observe the indicators on machines to see whether power is training or filling, no clicking necessary. Even though the worlds are easy to get lost in, they are still quite small, and on flat areas you can even see the curve of the planet. Everything feels small and tiny and adorable. Its like playing with a high tech Lego set, where you can print Lego parts that print even bigger Lego parts.

That was a lot of ranting about random parts of the game because this game just has a certain very deliberate feel permeating the whole thing. The art direction is perfect. Everything from the little cylindrical resource bundles to the chk-chk-chk of the printer is designed to make the world feel like a tiny little toy world. Also, there's a great video about the development of the game that has some pretty heart wrenching tragedy, so you know this game has real emotion put into it.

9/10 fun alone or with friends, for a mostly chill time. At 100 hours I haven't even come close to "beating" the game through multiple saves, although I mostly just mess around with a friend.
