See, Nintendo? This is how it's done. The ludicrous difficulty is not a problem when using mods. There are some really good ones to ease each aspect of the game ever so slightly or all the way to filthy casual territory, if so desired. Not to mention QoL mods. I like to amp up the darkness and melancholy of isolation by turning off the uplifting music and playing some fitting dark ambient instead. I recommend the catacombal kind. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ perfection. The very epitome of gaming evolution for me.

So far the DLCs have been pretty much the same, with hardly anything new, just theme changes. Sure there are new mounts, abilities, changed units, but this DLC finally brings different things to the world, the enemies are no longer just the same old portals only, and the map is vastly improved. The DLC finally makes the game feel varied, more epic, and more exciting in regards of exploration. Sure, there are bugs again, but I'm sure the worst of them will be fixed. The only downside I found is the complicated weather patterns have been oversimplified. Highly recommended DLC for those who thought the regular DLC were too similar and boring.

sweet game, good for top-down zelda gravings. I was tempted to call it a perfect game (all the way down to satisfying hit sfx), but after reflecting on it I do have some constructive criticism, aimed towards the likely sequel development:

I don't really ever play bullet hell games because they are so frustrating (but not this one due to the autofire). I do, however like the gradius/salamander games, especially gradius 5 with its very cool weapons. that said, I was disappointed in the lack of imagination of the weapons in minishoot. as a side note I was delighted to find out there was an "option" type weapon to help me out like in gradius, but was devastated to learn they are not permanent but need to be recharged.

second, the april 27th 2024 update completely ruined the racing challenges. they used to be so cool, taking at least 5 tries to get right. but after the update every race is won at the very first try, and you on top of that have to wait 10 seconds for the opponent to finish. wtf happened? maybe make it adjustable using the difficulty setting, if this is indeed how slow some people want it. please note that giving in to people who want it this slow will deprive them from the joy of travelling the map like a boss.

finding one of them artefacts of power does not tell what it does. this can result in the user never finding out from the Y menu and the finding can go unappreciated.

I always thought the Village Star was defective with just a ping sound, until a friend of mine figured out you need to push B for 10 seconds for it to work. This was 75% into our adventure.

[more constructive criticism to come]

and then on to my wishlist:

adjustable automatic difficulty for those of us with not much patience for the bosses: if you die [x] amount of time in a row in a small radius area (like a boss) the difficulty setting would reduce by one. And then when the player leaves the area put it back up a step [x] minutes after. this would allow casual explorers willing to push themselves to casually get better and enjoy more.

I always wish for metroidvania games to be splitscreen multiplayer. I don't mean the game should be any different to accommodate this, I hate two player puzzles (I always feel pressured). I just mean why can't two players explore the same world simultaneously, in different parts of the map and help each other out if necessary? any new power pickups could simply be delivered to the other player too. imagine the endless fun with friends.

When they added the couch co-op, I changed my review to positive. Compared to the old Two Crowns concept where there was hardly anything more than portals in the woods, this wildly populated game seems like a very welcomed change that sparks hope for the franchise!

They changed so many parts of the game it hardly seems familiar. I guess that's a good choice for freshness but they did remove a lot of what made the game variable. All in all I like it, but not quite as much as the original. It does work well as a companion for the original since it can never replace it.

Then again after trying the original after playing this I can't wrap my mind around the awkward non-strafing controls anymore, so yes this is a fantastic update to modern times but it is ultimately not as good as the original but it is still a very fun must play game.

Whenever you play the original remember to use the graphics overhaul mod re4hd.com and pray for a strafing mod.

I thought this was gonna be the game that finally beats Gradius V (a 60 dollar game) but no. It's great in every respect except you only get one basic weapon (wtf!?!) which makes it super boring. That's when I realized why it's priced at 2 dollars: It's just a teaser, really. Could be worth the price but I don't want boring in my library so I'm thinking about refunding it. I am, however, waiting feverishly for a sequel with some kind of weapon shop. Would be worth a lot more money.

It may seem boring at first when all the lanes have to be defended, but when you get the garlic the game changes and it's one of the greats.
