Before buying it, I read the reviews - the ones talking about getting emotional due to that game, and since that never happened to me ever (games, movies and stories in general combined), I totally doubted that it would have any such effect on me. So I bought it, tempted to find out, dreading just a little. And to cut to the chase... for the first few episodes I thought, my assessment was correct. Then the story got to me, and for the last few episodes I was literally crying nonstop.

So, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... I have no idea how he does that, but the author of this game - in my humble opinion - is an absolute genius when it comes to story-telling and making the players of his game feel the emotions he wants to communicate to them.

The sex scenes end up being not what you'd expect from an adult-game - yes, they're very visual. But they are part of the story, they drive the story. I for my part usually just skip their visual aspects (not the emotional aspects), because I want to continue with the story.

By now I completed the game twice - 100% Megan for the first play-through (story and ending still make me cry right now, even when just thinking about it - no spoilers though), and the second play-through was just the complete opposite with pretty much every decision, which got me to an ending I totally didn't expect. But even in the second play-through I was permanently crying throughout the last few episodes. Don't believe it? Try it yourself! I didn't believe it either.

Need to replay it several more times, but I'm already certain: this is one of the best games/stories I have ever come across. I almost never review a game, but Acting Lessons made me want to. I just hope, Dr. PinkCake (the developer) releases more games that are so emotionally intense - or, which I totally hope for: a fullscale aftermath-DLC for Acting Lessons would be wonderful. More story, more crying. :)

TLDR: Most emotionally intense story ever IMHO. Buy it right now! Even if you are an emotional ice-cube, that ice of yours will probably melt within the last few episodes.

As an oldschool fan of dungeon crawlers (Bloodwych, Eye of the Beholder, etc.) I absolutely love Vaporum, even though it could have been far longer in my opinion. Usually, this kind of game has a certain arsenal of puzzles that you encounter in many other grid-based games as well - but Vaporum has several puzzles I personally have never encountered in other games like this before. The developers' creativity in this regard is really quite good, so I wouldn't be surprised if their next grid-based RPG is even more innovative in that regard.

In my opinion... compared to other games like this, in Vaporum you progress much too fast, you get better items too quickly - for example: there are gadgets ("spells") that you can do certain things with, when you equip them. I found a "superior" one and used it for about 10 minutes, then I just happened to find the next upgrade to it. And that happened throughout the game. They could have it stretched so much more. You could say, it's too many rewards for too little challenge.

Don't get me wrong - this game IS actually rather challenging. You just get far too many rewards almost every time. In my opinion at least. :)

The circuits ("talent trees") are quite well made - there's a lot of trees, and each tree comes with upto 3 abilities (and a simple increase of some stat per point in that tree). Some of those abilities are passive, some are active, and depending on the way you wish to do combat, they are all desirable in some way. Your whole play-style depends on your choice of circuitry. I personally chose the steampunk version of a melee-mage that can't take a lot of hits, but keeps himself alive with a lot of useful gadgets - for example one that makes an enemy fight for me, and if that enemy happens to spawn additional monsters, sometimes these adds remained "mine" for a long time, after the controlled enemy died. Probably a glitch, but I loved it. :-D

Most of the areas/levels each have their own, unique tile sets - and in my opinion, they're really well made. Over the course of the game, the tilesets slowly transition from "totally steampunky" to a more and more noble or cleaned-up look. But all of them look absolutely appropriate.

And for those who wish to dance around enemies while attacking them: still possible in Vaporum, but similar to Grimrock, enemies don't always only attack the field in front of them - some have a mix of several attacks, each targetting a different set of tiles around the enemy, and that makes it definitely harder to do the classic grid-dance.
