So even though this is a negative review, this game is still an interesting game and is worth a play or two. It just wasn't for me and might not be for people similar to me. Making this thumb down one that is hard to tank as I'm writing this review, even though being honest with myself, I wouldn't recommend this game.

As interesting as the mechanics are and as impressive as this game is when it comes to lore, ambiance and mystery, the execution is not well done enough for me to wanna keep playing. Especially with a rogue like game like this one.
There's a lot of things to enjoy like learning concepts and having conversation to unlock stuff. Understanding more some mechanics of the game like the potion system, and so on. But it feels very repetitive. It feels like every biome has a slight monster pull change and different texture and that's it. It feels like there should be different bosses variations for the same level but it never happens. And it feels dull at a point.

The worst part about it is the fact that the discovery of the systems and the begining of the game does feel amazing. But after a while, some music are very harsh and repetitive and fatigues you. You know you have to beat the same boss again and again but with the very punishing nature of the game, one mistakes during the dungeons will kill you and if not that, discovering the boss' patern will! And by then, you'll have find many rings, a lot of weapons which the changes in stats don't really matter too much in game feel, and you'll have meet a lot of characters where as long as you don't unlock concepts, the conversation is still locked and so nothing progress.

The one thing that really bothered me and shouldn't have was the forest level. I was curious, with how many stuff you need to discover in order to compelte the awake world, about what tricks the game would pull in order for me to get everything as it makes it seem like the game has a lot of content hidden deeper in the dungeons... But it's just the same thing over and over again without features to make it feel fresh. I know games are that, bit it truly feel that each dungeons is a reskin of the first one. With those square rooms and unorganic mazes. I know roguelikes/lites are like that. But a game like returnal will trick you and have such a compelling narative that you'll get a driving force forward. Same with the first Hades and the way it always one up itself with challenges or boss changes and dialogue... Everything is too static to be compelling and it makes me feel in the end that its a very good start to a pretty average roguelike. So ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sad

More of a art game than a game game... What I mean by that is if you want to play this in order to have fun well that's not that kind of game. It is more of an interactive yume niki type of landscape with surprisingly well designed places. For simply "a walking simulator" this game goes into territories that are very bold and I like it a lot.

I would be lying if by moments of running around aimlessly in a depressing hellscape, I didn't feel frustrated about what to do and almost put the game down for good. But im glad I didn't. Everything in this game is worth experiencing. It seems to be coming for a very real and raw place and I can't help but feel this huge wave of awe when thinking about it.

I hope the game dev got a bit of recognition and love from this game. I think it must feel good! That's why. I'm so curious about what he is going to do next and I'll keep an eye on him!

Also why the ♥♥♥♥ is this free? There's no reason for it to be free! Like at least a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ euro or something? I played way worse ♥♥♥♥ that was way more expensive! If it comes from a place of insecurity. Well I get it, but come on.

Also that game really spoke to me on a personal level. I'm also making a game. I'm also feeling like a complete waste of human life as I'm going through it. And it inspired me! Even if the game im making doesn't have the success I want, I'll be able to create stuff im proud of eventually. This game is a proof of that. I want to be like 5% as interesting and daring as this game is. Thank you for that again!

A cool little game with pretty harsh themes that are not said out loud but honestly, they felt pretty explicit. Especially the room with the elephant in it...

My only complain is on a technical aspect. Because of the way dialogue display, the move speed and stuff like that, the game kind of loses impact on pacing. Maybe because its such a short experience, the developers behind the game were kind of scared for the experience to be shorter if we could fast forward dialogue or walk faster. That's a speculation on my part but the game has enough quality for it to not be a bother, or at least for moments of waiting or slow walk to always be for something happenning instead of just traversal (which sometimes it does!)
There are also many points after dialogue where for me, I wasn't sure if I should have control back at this point or not. That's a bit too bad coz it made me feel like the game was broken, when maybe its not at all

Thanks to the creators of this game for this disturbing snack~!

Don't get me wrong. This game is totally vile and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and horrible. But because I see how much of a video game it is, and the graphics are video gamey. It didn't shock me quite as much as everyone else.
And I think it is kinda interesting?
The story could be better paced and more well written and so could the mechanic. But its pretty unique. Maybe I have a stomache of steal when it comes to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up ♥♥♥♥? Or maybe most people came here to nut and got totally horrified by the content of this vile rotten game. Either way its more good than bad, especially if you like disturbing ♥♥♥♥. But yes, be well aware of your boundaries before going into this one.

If you go a bit deeper with it, (pun intended), one might ask themselves... what's the point of this game? Just to shock? To nut?
I'm pretty sure there's something story wise there that is trying to tell a deeper story, about self worth, about the burden of expectations, and about how low someone could go with 0 respect for themselves or their body. Your character is obnoxious but I think it is to showcase how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ he is. The sex scenes all turn violent and I think its to showcase the loop of self pleasuring into terrible consequences for others. And I think the game is visceral about it.

It is also shockingly surprising how good quality it is. Its a bit loud in visual effects, and the pacing does suck. And so do the puzzles. But the animation quality as well as the music? Wtf?

I think if they get to do it again and learn to better pace and integrate the story, it would be a very cool game.

Oh and I liked the end as well. I think it kind of was a meta commentary, the thing about dark thoughts and the fact that they give you a choice with one option. It's trying to tell a story on several aspects.

So ye, it spoke to me. Not as good as other games did, but its good food for thoughts if you can be detached enough from the horrible disturbingly vile ♥♥♥♥ that you're going to experience while playing this game.

So the game is good and fun and short and sweet. And really the ambiance is awesome but I do have a hard time understanding why it is a game. The visuals are whimsical and the music is great and its nice to seat there. But outside of that I don't feel like the challenges or the controls adds much outside of exploration. It also adds in such a short amount of time some ludo narrative dissonance imo, but in order to talk about that I need to get into spoiler territory so whatever. But it is weird how it doesnt seem to make sense. I think its solely because of gameplay making the story less impactful and hurting the world building too.
And what a world, it is truly amazing the crazy design there are. I wish I could do just a tenth of what you can see on screen. Also every characters are pretty memorable so like hell ye.
It's very short though. Would benefit from having a few more scenes but maybe not, maybe it would outstay its welcome. But since I played game like helics, I don't think so. I would be down to play a couple hours of this one

Anyway, for the low low price of 1€ (yes i'm european), I think it is still very much worth it

A nice little game (which I playtested).

It's an objective based crafting game where you're trying to build a powerful magical item while dealing with nasty and disturbing looking clients that might be dangerous, splitting your brain on several task at once, and wondering if you'll go in the dungeon to get some components you couldn't find elsewhere. If the game ticks for you, you'll have your attention completely sucked by it while you'll swear you're going crazy because some card arts or elements in the background changes when you don't look at them.

Short but sweet! Warmly recommending it!

So, I tried as much as I could to avoid actual story and gameplay spoiler but I still go pretty in depth so read to your own discretion. I don't think it spoils anything but some people might be more sensitive to my allusions so, if you are, stop reading!

A small game, straight to the point, pretty nice and well made. Love the voice acting too. But I don't know. It's so short and the fact that the game could be done in less than 4 minutes makes it feel like some kind of outer wilds but way shorter. I wanna give more stars to this game but I'm left wondering... Is there more style than substance? I feel like the game is a bit hollow and that the story or mystery behind it is either shallow or not presented in a way that feels... compelling.

I feel like the solution to the game is pretty disappointing making all this thick ambiance feel... cheap to solve. Like you have angry scary spirit breathing down your neck and then you're like "it was this simple reason" and every scary thing are like "oh, i see, good job!"

But also the dynamic between the characters kind of make it less cheap... still I think its a fair criticism to be made.
It feels like the most interesting and intriguing part of the story is hidden behind the secrets of the game and that's crazy to me. There's still a bit of mystery and I'm left to ponder wtf is going on in the secret ending but also I don't think I'll get an answer unless I search online the folklore that inspired the game and I wish I could have found it in game. Or maybe I'm totally completely wrong haha.

Still. At least those makes you curious, the challenges and logic puzzles behind it are way harder, and it is great at worldbuilding.

So y, I tried to expressed all of that as spoiler free as I could. I think it's worth playing it but with such a short experience, I think everything is expected to be as close as possible to perfect and sadly, it kind of fall flat.

Oh there's also a secret card that I noticed as a piece of scenery, and since there are stories about death and ghost I really thought it was important, but its not sadly :( it is still a pretty cool secret to get!

A spoiler heavy review of a game I wish I could love
You have no idea how much it pains me to join the bandwagon of people not enjoying the game and having to say NO to
recommend this game. It truly is a personnal tragedy but it is the way it is...

After checking online some criticism and trying to find people that could share the same experience as I did, I actually found a lot of people that actually are completely aligned with my feelings of the game. But I shall still try to explain to the best of my abilities why this game was a miss for me... Anyway, here it is bullet point by bullet point with an explanation attached to each of them.

Little disclaimer btw: I'm french and played the game in french so most places, upgrade names and everything like that, I do not know the english version of those names.

I enjoyed the first Hollow Knight
I'm not a super fan, its not my favourite game, its not even in my top 10, but it is a good game. A game that I respect and that I enjoyed. A game I'm happy exists and got the following it did! If I have to give any criticism for that first game, there is a white place with a lot of paltforming that I think straight up isn't super good or fun but that's it. It's the only thing I didn't like, so I was at least expecting to have similar feelings towards this game. But...

Hollow knight felt more enchanting than silksong, especially when it comes to exploring
Even though they are trying to make the ascencion feel good, that there are places that are more magical, more natural and some others that are dark and grim... It feels a lot more diluted and with a less impactful contrast than hollow knight. With a place so big, there is way less environmental storytelling. We see bugs falling from the sky because there is a big hole above the first camp but it feels way less cool and incredible than the city of tears, permanantly raining because it was built underneath a cave that is filled with water. And figuring it out is so great, so enchanting.
I am 24 hours in and I have yet to see something close to that in any sense, with the same contrast of ambiances and biomes. With the same mystic behind it. Because I think it just doesn't do it, and many biomes, even though they tell a story about how this place used to work, feels way more like traversal rather than exploration

The game feels tedious rather than difficult
I played many hard games, there is a ton you can see on my profile and the difficulty is not an issue with this game, at least in my opinion. The problem comes from where the difficulty comes from and it is tedious. A lot of enemies have movements pattern that are not fun to engage with, but annoying. They feel like a chore to deal with. A lot of enemies are flying, staying at a safe distance from you, and when you try to engage, they will do a dangerous big attack, and then get away from you as soon as they are done. This cat and mouse game could feel good but result in more of an exercice of patience rather than skill. You can take the risk and just go all in, trying to output a huge amount of damage and kill creatures or bosses as fast as possible but it is honestly not the most efficient way and the punition is for you to walk all the way back to it in order to kill it, multiplied by the number of time you die. Which is not that hard to get back to that point.
The most efficient way to kill most enemies is to just wait for a window of oportunity and then it, wait for them to attack, avoid, and hit. It is long, tedious and boring. Enemies that charges do that, a lot of bosses do that, and the frustration to just get that window of oportunity as you move around, always is just crushing any dopamine I could feel from the game. Maybe my playstyle is wrong, maybe I should use my tools more to fight but then, if I still die anyway, I have to deal with all the punitions I get from failing the challenge on top of draining ressources that I might have to farm now that I'm drained.
- Charging enemies
- Poucing enemies
- Lunging enemies
- Flying enemies
- Kamikaze enemies
They all basically ask you the same if you want to be efficient and safe with your masks, avoid they're attack, hit once and twice, repeat again and again.

Rewards feel underwhelming compared to the amount of efforts needed to access them
With all i've said in the above, once you're done with the enemies or bosses and get to the rewards, they are usually very underwhelming. Pretty quickly you get lots of attack styles, movesets, tools and so on but most of them feel so underwhelming. I don't remember which boss I had to fight but you get pretty early a power up that allows you to recharge 1 stock of silk while outside of combat. It basically gives you 1 less stock to do in order to charge whatever you want to do, and that's if you fight one enemy and are not in an intense fight and... that's it! When you get it, you can't play songs yet so it doesn't feel like that would be an help for that. It is probably the main goal but when you get it you don't know that making the power up useless. AND when you finally upgrade the amount of silk stocks you can have... Well that power up is also rendered useless because it only helps in intense fight as before you had that extra stock, you could just use all the one you had and wait a bit to have a new free stock. Making the silk stock upgrade absolutly underwhelming and have little to no impact of gameplay whatsoever.
Same with something that feels more core to the gameplay like attack damage. Enemies are tanky and I couldn't wait that enemies that took 3 hits now takes two. But as I did a little experiment on an enemy (i dont know which one, maybe the ones that swim in the water on the left of the bell city, they took the same amount of hits BEFORE and AFTER the upgrade! Making it again feel underwhelming.

The fact that the game quality is peak makes it even more infuriating
I want to love the game SO MUCH. I usually give like maximum 6 hours a game to give a fair shot, but this game was gifted to me, everyone love it. I'm thinking there must me something wrong with me. I listen to the beautiful music, try to get myself into a trance like state thanks to the super repsonsive and precise controls. Mess with all the tools and fight style and everything the game gives to me. Look at the graphics, the animation, the charismatic quirks of every cute character you meet. And I try to immerse myself in the thoughtfully written stories. I even find secret path, mechanics that make sense and all the little attention to every detail this game throws at me. It shows a true labour of love. It shows how meticulously made every part of this game was. And all of that clashes heavily with my boredom and frustration while I play it. I know the game is good, at least if its not in game design, overall, you can see that this game is shining of excellent quality. And I can smell how I could easily love it. But instead im frustrated and having a bad time while everything around me is excellent. I know why, I'm explaining why but it makes all the reasons that I can't love it even more painful.

A final quick round of little things I didn't like about the game
- Last Judge wasn't super hard. But when I wanted to look at her death and my victory, she exploded and killed me... A lot of enemies explode in the game and never before her it can kill you. Made me restart a fight I already did and completed after a few attempt to be rewarded with more places to explore. Made me enjoy what came right after way less and made my victory feel blender than if she just would have died the first time. Made a fight I enjoyed a fight that was tedious.

I'm actually at the character limit, I'm so sad I don't like the game. This sucks.
Thank you for reading me.

A very interesting game from a very young and talented mind. Shipwrecked is a trip. It might be hard to get into because of the ARG difficulty of some puzzle, with a few stand outs that can go into "are you for real?" territories. But the scares and the story makes it up for it. Out of many games I've been playing, Shipwrecked truly kept me interested. Trapped me into wanting to know more and obsess over the game whilst being scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, idling hours on a screen in the hope of some courage finding my way and helping me.

Even though it's cryptic, I would recommend any fan of horror to dive deep into it. I truly think what you'll get out of the game is truly worth it, and is a good and unique example of what scary games could be doing to mix things up and scare you in very new and evil ways!

Have fun !
