The Callisto Protocol should be looked at in it's own way. If you compare it to a titan like "Dead Space" you're setting yourself up for disappointment right out of the gate. The game itself is often received as a shadow of Dead Space and in my opinion, this game deserves a little more appreciation and recognition. If you go into this game with the intention to play through a beautifully, dark world, with an incredible sound and lighting design throughout the entire game, not to mention, how atmospheric the level design is, you'll have a great time playing through this game.

If you nitpick what others have mentioned about the game not delivering the "Dead Space" charm, then of course you'll not enjoy this game. If you look at this game as it's own thing, through a mediocre, but open minded lens, you'll enjoy it!

The story and the game play mechanics aren't what sold me and why I felt obligated to defend this game and show a little love towards it... no, no... what sold me and what I was so in love with, was simply the top-tier detail to the levels, the lighting, the gore, and my favorite part of the game? The sound design.

The sound design in this game is incredible. From the soundtrack, to the menu music, to the creatures pitter-pattering through the vents, to the water dripping and echoing through the dark and creature-filled, hell-like, caves you have to maneuver through. The sound design really brings everything together and is what I really admire in a game that is supposed to feel immersive and ominously unsettling!

All in all, give this game a try when it's on sale and go into it with reasonable expectations and you'll enjoy this gem of an action/horror game. Solid 7/10 for me.
