Project DIVA Mega Mix+ is a top-tier entry in the series, delivering a massive song list of over 100 tracks, from Vocaloid staples to pop hits, ensuring endless replayability. The customization shines with hundreds of unlockable outfits for Miku and friends, letting you create dazzling stage looks. Switching visual styles between the vibrant anime charm of Mega Mix and the sleek CG polish of Future Tone keeps performances fresh and visually stunning. However, I miss the satisfying hold notes from older games, which added a smooth flow, and the absence of beloved modes like Diva Room feels like a step back for fan interaction. Multi-note combos are a fun challenge but take time to master. Still, this is a rhythm game masterpiece—addictive, polished, and brimming with content.

LEGO Batman: The Video Game is a timeless gem, easily one of the best LEGO games out there. Its charming blend of humor, action, and iconic DC characters keeps you hooked, with tight gameplay and creative levels that still feel fresh. The recent addition of Steam Cloud support is a fantastic update, making it easier to pick up and play across devices. My only gripe? No Steam achievements! It’s baffling they didn’t just port over the console versions’ achievements for this or other classic LEGO titles—such a missed opportunity. Still, a must-play for fans of Batman or LEGO games!

For me, Mortal Kombat XL isn't just a great fighting game; it's the highlight of the entire series. It takes everything the core game did well and amplifies it to a staggering degree, making it a masterclass in what a complete edition should be. The sheer amount of content is a huge part of its appeal, with a massive roster and a ton of different modes to keep you hooked for countless hours. What really sealed the deal for me were the guest characters. The horror icons they brought in were absolutely amazing, with characters like Jason Voorhees feeling right at home in the brutal world of Mortal Kombat. While the sequels have had some fantastic guest fighters as well—I'm a big fan of RoboCop—the lineup in XL was something special. Beyond the content, the gameplay is fast, fluid, and relentlessly fun. The different character variations add a layer of strategic depth that rewards dedicated players. The game's online experience, thanks to a much-improved netcode, also made for a smoother and more consistent experience with other players. Mortal Kombat XL is, in my opinion, a high point for the series and an essential game for any fan.

Stepping into Half-Life 2 on Steam is like returning to a familiar, masterful work of art. For anyone who loved the original, this sequel is a testament to the developers literally taking everything that made the first game great—the immersive, environmental storytelling, the tight gunplay, the mind-bending puzzles—and cranking it up to ten. The world-building is just phenomenal, drawing you into the oppressive, dystopian City 17 and making you a part of the resistance without a single cutscene to break the flow. The introduction of the Source engine and its physics-driven gameplay was a revolutionary leap. The Gravity Gun, in particular, isn't just a gimmick; it's a core tool that defines the game's identity, allowing you to manipulate the environment in ways that were unheard of in 2004. While the original is a classic, the recent 20th Anniversary Update makes it the definitive way to play. This isn't just a simple port; it's a love letter from Valve to the community. The update breathes new life into the game with a host of fixes and modern touches. They've overhauled the lighting, smoothed out the shadows, and fixed a slew of long-standing bugs, ensuring the game looks better than ever without losing its iconic art style. The new high-resolution UI and proper support for modern widescreen displays are small but essential quality-of-life improvements. Beyond the technical enhancements, the update adds a ton of new content, including developer commentary, a documentary, and, most importantly, bundling the excellent Episode One and Episode Two expansions into the base game. It’s a complete package that not only stands the test of time but is also now more accessible and polished for a new generation of players. Half-Life 2 on Steam, especially with its anniversary update, is not just a trip down memory lane; it's a timeless experience that every gamer should have.

For many, playing Valve's Half-Life for the first time was a paradigm-shifting experience. In an era dominated by "Doom clones" focused on mindless action and disjointed levels, Half-Life proved that a first-person shooter could have a compelling narrative, an atmospheric world, and intelligent design, all without ever taking control away from the player. The game's most groundbreaking feature was its continuous, first-person perspective. The story of Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist at the Black Mesa research facility, unfolds through a seamless series of scripted events and environmental cues. Instead of a separate cinematic, the catastrophic "resonance cascade" happens around you, and the horror of the alien invasion is experienced in real-time, uninterrupted. This innovation, combined with a world that felt interconnected and lived-in, created a level of immersion previously unseen in the genre. It wasn't just a shooter; it was an adventure with puzzles, platforming, and a sense of constant, unfolding dread. While its late-90s graphics are a testament to its age, Valve recently gave the original Half-Life a significant update for its 25th anniversary. The patch was a love letter to fans and a great reason for newcomers to dive in. It introduced official widescreen support, controller compatibility, and other quality-of-life improvements that make the game feel more at home on modern hardware. Even more exciting was the return of the Half-Life: Uplink mini-campaign and new multiplayer maps, restoring content that had long been inaccessible to many players. The result is a game that is not only a monument to a past era of gaming but also a title that holds up remarkably well today. The gunplay is still solid, the puzzles are clever, and the atmosphere remains thick with tension. The 25th-anniversary update doesn't just fix bugs—it revitalizes and preserves the game's legacy, making it the definitive way to experience one of the most influential and important titles in video game history.

Soulcalibur VI is a decent entry in the series, but it falls short of being my favorite. While it brings a lot of what I love about the franchise back to the forefront, it feels like an "okay" game rather than a truly great one. The character creation is, without a doubt, a major highlight. The depth and freedom it provides are incredible, and I've spent countless hours just tinkering with it. The core gameplay feels good and responsive, a welcome return to form for the series. However, the Reversal Edge mechanic is a big drawback for me. I just hate how it can halt the flow of a match for a coin-flip-like mini-game. I think they patched it and made it less spammable or something, which helped, but it's still not a mechanic I'm fond of. The single-player content is extensive but uninspired in its presentation. It's great to have so much to do, but I miss the cinematic flair of past games. While Soulcalibur VI has its flaws, it did prove one thing: my soul still burns for this franchise. I'm hopeful that the next installment will be the one that truly rekindles the fire and brings the series back to its former glory.

Tekken 7 is a masterful fighting game, but it's a product of its time. At its core, the game is a triumph of polished, deep, and rewarding gameplay. The combat system, with its focus on intricate 3D movement and long, punishing combos, is a joy to learn and a challenge to master. With a massive and diverse roster, every player can find a character that fits their style. For the competitive player, the game has been a pillar of the fighting game community for years, with a high skill ceiling and endless replayability. However, its single-player offerings are a significant weakness. The story mode, while a conclusion to the long-running Mishima saga, is short and disjointed, leaving many characters feeling like afterthoughts. Outside of that, the content is thin, and the online experience, while functional, can be frustrating due to inconsistent netcode.

Dead or Alive 6 is a fighting game that’s both a step forward and a step back for the series. At its core, the game's combat is arguably the best it has ever been. It retains the signature "Triangle System" of strikes, throws, and holds, but introduces a new "Break Gauge" that adds a layer of depth and accessibility. The Fatal Rush auto-combo makes it easy for new players to jump in and feel a part of the action, while advanced players will find a satisfying and fluid fighting engine with plenty of room for mind games and skillful play. The game also shines visually. Characters show real-time damage with dirt, sweat, and bruises appearing as a fight progresses, and the overall graphics are a significant improvement. The training and tutorial modes are top-notch, with the "DOA Quest" serving as an engaging way to teach players the game's mechanics. However, the game stumbles outside of its core gameplay. The story mode is a disorganized mess, and many of the stages feel less dynamic and memorable than those in previous titles. Most notably, the game was launched with a surprising lack of basic online features like lobbies, which was a huge disappointment for the fighting game community. The monetization and DLC strategy has also been heavily criticized, with a grind-heavy system for unlocking costumes and an overabundance of expensive downloadable content. Furthermore, the decision to tone down the series' signature fan service alienated a portion of its core audience. In conclusion, Dead or Alive 6 is a mechanically solid and highly enjoyable fighting game at its heart. But it’s a game with a significant "if." If you can look past its barebones online functionality, weak story, and questionable DLC practices, you'll find a fantastic fighter that is easy to pick up and challenging to master.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was a big leap for the series, bringing in the first open-world Gotham and full voice acting. The story’s goofy and fun, with Batman, Robin, and the Justice League teaming up against Lex and Joker. The huge roster of heroes and villains keeps things fresh, and co-op is still a blast. On the downside, the camera and controls can be clunky (flying as Superman is a pain), the open-world activities get repetitive, and the lack of a mini-map makes finding stuff annoying. The puzzles are super simple, and the graphics definitely show their age. Also, just like the first game, there’s no Steam Cloud support, which is frustrating.

Edit: Great news for longtime fans—TT Games has rolled out Steam Cloud support for LEGO Batman 2, LEGO Batman: The Video Game, and other classic LEGO titles like the Harry Potter series! This update, which hit in mid-2025, means your save files sync seamlessly across devices, finally letting you pick up that 100% completion run without starting over on a new PC.

VF5 R.E.V.O. is a bit of a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, the core gameplay is still that classic, deep, technical Virtua Fighter goodness—frame data, spacing, and precision still matter more here than in almost any other fighter. The rollback netcode is also a huge win, making online matches smooth and responsive, which is crucial for a game this demanding. But honestly, the single-player content took a serious hit. No story mode, no Quest Mode like in VF5, and customization options in the base game are really limited unless you’re willing to pay for DLC. It kind of feels stripped down. Visually, it’s a mixed story too. While R.E.V.O. is technically the best-looking version, 4K 60 FPS, and well-optimized on PC—some of the original VF5’s charm got lost. Stage lighting, effects like rain or water, and even the music don’t hit the same, even with legacy options. Still, with 19 characters and a rock-solid foundation, R.E.V.O. feels like a step toward keeping VF alive. It's a Great game for the competitive player but there's not a whole lot to do if your a casual player.
