Downwell could easily have been a classic had it been released a couple decades ago, not just because it looks and sounds the part (with a palette consisting of 4 colors and GameBoy style chiptune music), but also because it nails the old principle of simple yet challenging gameplay. It's quite addictive!

The premise is extremely simple: You have to make your way down a long tunnel filled with breakable bricks and enemies, but your abilities are limited to jumping and shooting downwards with jetpack/gun equipped boots. It feels like a blend of the original Metroid and an upside-down Kid Icarus.
