This is friendslop in a similar vein to Lethal Company but much easier to get into, exploring the dungeon even in the demo has been very fun.

It's still a bit rough around the edges in some places. Enemies respawn a little too often for my liking and the proximity chat does not take walls into account so I can clearly hear friends on a physically separate story.

I also had this game freeze, lag and crash on Linux and needed to switch to Windows to get it working again.

Super cool project, wishlisted for the full release.

TL;DR
Amazing farming simulator that still has most of the original Harvest Moon DNA.

I have very few gripes with the game but they are actually so bad that it drops the experience from a 9/10 to a 6/10 and at that point the price tag, even during a sale, is not justifiable.

Story
You're thrown into the scenario with a classic grandchild-of-farmer backstory, where you inherit the run-down farm and help the mayor renovating and expanding the city to a flourishing tourist attraction. You do so by delivering materials for Town Requests and then get to see a cutscene showing the impact you made on the community. It's fairly basic, but very charming and rewarding.

Controls
The game is clearly designed to be navigated with a controller, but I simply can not get it to recognize mine, whether I enable or disable Steam Input doesn't matter. I imagine it feels much better using one but on M&K it feels very janky and more like an obligatory afterthought.

Note: I play on a Linux client and have to use the GE-Proton version to run the game, so this may not be a problem for you if you're playing on Windows or Switch.

Characters
The townspeople are all very charming and diverse, I really enjoy seeing the cutscenes of them interacting with each other and want to raise the friendship levels just to see what they're up to. There is a lot of customization for the player character and all of it looks really pretty.

Art and Music
I can not stress enough how good the game looks. The colors, the visual variety while still having a consistent artstyle, the decorations, it's just a treat to play. Music is fairly standard stuff I would expect in a farming sim.

Gameplay
The farming aspect is not at all grindy, there's even lots of rewards for achievements that incentivise engaging with all of the game's mechanics. I love how you unlock more and more new features as you go with seemingly no end in sight. It is genuinely a great experience, probably the most fun I had with the genre so far...

...if it wasn't for two particular problems:

1. The amount of rogue resource spawns (trees, grass, rocks) is plain ABSURD, especially once you expand the farm space twice it feels unmanagable. Like down to water holes spawning right in front of my animal barns. It's genuinely so annoying having to spend a third of my day just to upkeep the farm with seemingly no way to fix it beyond covering the entire place with wooden flooring.

2. The makers. It's fine to have so many different facilities for processing, but they take up soooo much space and work soooo slow, getting progressively worse the further you progress through the game.

There is a mod to fix the latter but nothing to work around the first one. And I am serious, if it wasn't for these two issues this would have been my favourite farming game to date.

TL;DR
Crafty Survivors is in my opinion one of the best games that came out of the "bullet heaven" hype, it offers a lot of challenge and various progression systems that keep you engaged, every character plays in a genuinely unique way.

If you're looking to get a lot of bang for your buck and find other "bullet heavens" too easy, this one may be for you.

Controls
Crafty Survivors allows a spectrum from full autopilot to full manual control within the battles, which allows you to adjust to your preferences or even change it on the fly depending on your build. Some characters definitely work better on full manual piloting, among those Axel specifically is a little finicky to use as the charged manual attacks will automatically release on level up regardless of charge status, mildly annoying when you are trying to do precise strikes.

I definitely prefer playing this with a controller.

There is a minor display issue (as of time of posting) where the game will show me PlayStation button layouts before switching the symbols back to the gamepad layout. Seems to happen when I alt-tab or at the start of a new run. This doesn't affect gameplay but it has been a thing for as long as I remember playing.

Gameplay
During a run, you defeat a certain amount of enemies, then finish the level by defeating a boss. Level Ups are unique to each individual character, and each character has at least 2-3 discrete builds you can spec into. While there is not too much variety in the builds, each character plays so different that you have a lot more variety than you'd expect.

Between the runs, you use accumulated resources to improve your stats and unlock new features. The scaling is small early on but becomes much more significant the further you progress. The big milestone upgrades like Max HP Up and the Skill Tree Unlocks feel very rewarding to get into, a merchant allows you trading money for resources at a balanced exchange rate.

The progression systems share the same resources, so you either have to make choices or grind quite a bit to max it out. Some people love it, some hate it.

Art and Music
I like the pixel art, the environmental themes, the character variety, the music is pleasant and doesn't get annoying even after long sessions. I have nothing negative to say but also not a lot more than that.

I like the little bits of lore with the mail and newspapers, it's very minimal but adds some personality to everything, as well as hints for secrets you can unlock.

Many people consider this game THE dungeon crawler RPG classic that set the beat for the genre, for good reason.

If you enjoy games like Persona Q (or Persona in general), Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Zanki Zero etc. you may enjoy this, but expect less story and no protagonists.

Also, this game expects you to run past stronger enemies. Deaths are very punishing and there are no autosaves. Do not get demotivated by setbacks, the game's demand of your full attention (drawing the map, saving the game and knowing your limits when crawling) eventually makes it a fun and almost meditative experience.

TL;DR
Personally, this is my game of the year. Beautiful, tragic, challenging and a breath of fresh air in the RPG scene.
Runs well on Linux, had a minor controller issue though.

Gameplay
The most notable thing about the gameplay is the combat. You can imagine the game like something between the old Mario & Luigi RPGs and Sekiro, with flexible difficulty settings you can change at your discretion.

I struggle with my reaction speed so this game required a significant amount more time to beat than it may for others, but even when I was struggling almost all fights were doable and beating them felt rewarding.

Each character has a unique mechanic that works differently and there is a lot of skills and weapons that interact with them, giving you ample room to come up with creative builds and team comps.

The gear system is reduced to weapons (that as mentioned before are unique to the characters) and something similar to a "badge" system where you equip passive effects with a cost limit. Early on the effects are more valuable but in the late game the stats the Pictos add to characters are just as valuable. If you crunch the numbers you can get some absolutely absurd combinations going.

Story
This game has a classic three-act story structure. A lot of the twists and turns, a lot of drama. Even though it is tropey in some ways it is phenomenally well written. Almost all questions I asked myself throughout the game were answered and wrapped up with satisfying (though sometimes heartbreaking) conclusions. I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself.

The characters all had distinct personalities and all had their share of screen time, the character development throughout it all was crazy.

Visuals, Controls, Audio, etc.
The settings allow you to fine tune the visuals for performance or quality in a very granular manner. Sadly not a lot of accessibility options but I am still glad there are some. The audio settings are good.

I primarily played the game on controller and experienced a problem where the RT button specifically always was spasming/jittering when I tried to run, I am not sure if that's a certified Linux moment or an actual game bug, but I don't have this problem with other games. The layout for controller is different from what I am used to but it did grow on me, especially how fast I can navigate my turns with very few buttons.

I am slightly bothered by the inconsistency of fonts and text formatting in certain menus. A different font was chosen for the damage numbers specifically for legibility purposes I would guess but it feels off.

I really like the English voice acting, the French dub was okay.

And lastly, I absolutely adore the soundtrack, art direction and map design. A concern with high fidelity games like these is always that they tend to not age well, but I think the fantastical and vibrant style they opted for works amazing.

Despite my peeves in the last paragraph this is still my game of the year that I will definitely come back to.

TL;DR
I do not recommend this game because I generally do not recommend gachas to people unless the game experience outweighs the major problems I have with the genre. Sadly, R1999's monetization and event structure follow all the bad trends of the genre I experienced over the past years*. On top of that the amount of popup-tutorials dumping 5 billion pieces of information (that you didn't ask for) every step of the way makes for a miserable earlygame experience and multiple of my friends quit just because of the what-feels-like-endless-tutorial.

However for gacha game standards, R1999 is at the top end of the spectrum. Cute characters, alright main story, always something to do, the gacha itself (rates and frequency of currency payout to roll) is designed fairly.

I could go more in-depth on every aspect of the game but after getting clown reacted by people after posting the original review y'all are not worth the effort.

*Monetization: Dozens of "value packs", a battle pass, a login bonus subscription, costumes, limited gacha banners that count pity separately from regular ones. Even "returning player exclusive" deals to get you right into the spending habit after a break.

*Event Schedule: Excessive amount of time-gates and reward-limitations that require you to schedule your free time around the game and make it a regular activity if you actually want to get anywhere for the event structure)

I like that this game knows exactly what it wants to be and as such does everything it tries to achieve very well.

From the interface layout to the pixel art and journal pages this is a very refined experience, I can tell even after 70-80 minutes of playtime already.

I don't think this game is for everyone, but those who it appeals to will have the best time of their lives.

TL;DR Very buggy, but not as bad as a lot of reviews make it out to be
I think that all things considered, Gearbox did a decent job with the DLC. But they should've put more effort into the QA testing, especially for the console versions.

If you're playing the game in singleplayer, you will likely not notice a lot of the issues.

Content
The new areas are spacious and fun to navigate. Accessing them is a bit awkward but it feels in-line with all the original content from before the update.

The artifact after beating the new boss is a good nod at the box from the final stage in ROR:R, the new characters are fun (though, arguably OP). I like the new items, but some of them do not work as intended. In particular the Antlers (reflecting damage does not work as you would expect it to) and the Sale Star (only one extra item regardless of how many stacks of it you have, all stacks get consumed anyways)

As with the previous DLC, if you're playing this in multiplayer with a friend, only one of you needs to actually have the DLC to have all of the content enabled.

Game Changes
They added a handful of new settings, primarily for accessibility and controls. I actually think everything they added is decent in this regard.

Some of my biggest peeves with the update may be that there is way less visual clarity even among the regular game content, surely some of these things are bugs but there is no rarity indicating outline around items, multishops sometimes do not show the items inside, the Alloy Worship Unit shows its "Shield" as HP now (very misleading)

Something I like is that the scrapper now shows the exact percentage scaling of each item in the interface, the multishops for equipment actually have a more distinct design and i like the new enemies

One of those games that are extremely frustrating to play on your own and slightly more bearable with friends. Unfun monetization, janky queues, requires an EA account apparently.

I only recommend this when you want to play something with friends on other systems and hate Fortnite and Overwatch

I enjoyed mu time with this game thoroughly but once you get out of the loop and don't remember what you did last session you played the game it's kind of over due to the level of complexity at play.

Also the game hasn't been receiving updates in god knows how long so while the idea is great the necessary polish isn't quite there and I am inclined to believe never will be. You'll find more complete experiences in this price range and genre.
