The perfect game for busy parents! My schedule doesn't allow me to play games endlessly like it did before children. You can play this for 5 minutes, or for 5 hours. This game has no timed content and no resource constraints. It requires creativity and logic while fun and addicting. There is no killing, sexually suggestive content or swearing that's found in most games today - it's not necessary. Don't let the overwhelming screenshots intimidate you. The game has an excellent tutorial and you can play at your own pace. Give this game a shot - it's worth it!

Gems of War is a fantastic gem that I wish I had found sooner. I began play in November 2017. I used to enjoy Bejewled but it lacked substance. I used to enjoy Hearthstone, but I could not keep up with the investment. Gems of War is virtually nothing like either of those games but it's the best comparison I can make. It is unique in it's own way.

There are thousands of Troops (cards) in the game. You build teams of four to do battle. Your goal is to beat the other team of four by destroying each of their Toops. Each troop has one or more colors associated with it. You charge-up your Troops by collecting X number of gems by getting matches of 3 or more. When your Troop has obtained enough mana, you can use their action.

With so many Troops in the game, it's fun building teams with good synergies. Each Troop has one or more classifications. For example, your Troop may be considered a Goblin, and you may receive a bonus for having other Goblins on your team.

Each week new troops are released. There are weekly events that offer free rewards for simply playing the game. With a regular influx of new Troops, different weekly bonuses to different Troops and periodic balancing, it's rare to have one single over powered team. Getting those new Troops can also be done with ease.

One of the best parts of GoW is that it's FREE! Even better than that, it's completely viable to play the game without investing any money and actually become competitive. And no, you aren't having to work twice as hard as a paying player. Getting into a good and casual guild is not hard. GoW has a fantastic community. There are a few bad eggs, as with any game. Find a guild that fits your play style. Being in a good guild provides you with free items that allow you to open various chests, which contain Troops.

Your "Hero" is something you will use early on and your Hero wears armor. The 2nd best armor in the game can be purchased with in-game currency, that can be obtained with just a couple weeks of play. The most tempting time to spend money in GoW is within your first month. Your Troop options are limited, your confused by mechanics and don't fully understand what you are buying from the Cash Shop. If you are patient, you'll have a good team within a matter of days.

I invested $50 on my first day to buy the game's top set of armor. I told myself that I liked it enough to see reaching 100 hours, which is my threshold on any game for a $50 investment. The early boost was nice, but I've come to realize it wasn't at all necessary. Some of the armors provide you with an XP boost. Leveling too quickly can actually make the game harder. I still feel that the armor is worth it if you plan to play the game long-term. I'm happy with the content so I don't mind funding a great development team.

I could and want to double the size of this review, as there is so much more to discuss but I'll leave you with this. The game is free, give it a try for yourself!

I'm not one for leaving reviews, but I feel this game deserves some praise. While the game isn't perfect, I feel the amount of negativity surrounding other reviews isn't a fair assessment of the game. There are some loyal, passionate and long-time customers of the franchise. Civ V being regarded as such a fantastic and well balanced game, shouldn't cause negative reviews for the newest installment in the series.

I think the developers made some fantastic changes to the game, while sticking to it's roots. Districts are an interesting addition to the game and I like the way Builders are used in this installment. The Technology Tree and it's Eureka moments add another layer of strategy not found in it's predecessor. Some of the Government Policy cards could use some balancing, as I often tend to use the same over and over. However, as I've played with other civs and altered my playstyle, I find myself using cards that I hadn't in the past.

Sure, the AI behaves a bit odd and is something that can be easily beaten as you settle-in to the new mechanics. They also have some strange behaviors. These are not game-breaking issues and something that I'm confident that will continue to be balanced in future patches. I honestly think these minor annoyances are the reason for the negative reviews. Just because something isn't perfect, doesn't make it bad. Patches have already been introduced to adjust AI behavior while in the meantime, Steam Workshop mods have been opened up (one of which is an AI improvement mod).

At the end of the day, the game still gives me that "one more turn" feeling. I'll make a mental note that I want to wrap things up, and 2 hours later I'm still playing. If that isn't the qualifier for a solid game, I don't know what is.
