This is one of those amazing games that sadly doesn't get enough mainstream attention.
Absolutely the most thought provoking game this year.

The last game that had me thinking this much about the various situations in it was Disco Elysium.

Very much still an alpha version. Given the amount of time it has taken so far, the game's future is still uncertain.

That said, you can tell there is a good game in there somewhere. Whether or not it becomes fully polished and worth it is still to be determined though.

I am putting it as recommended, mostly because too many people are rating it bad because they can't seem to understand an alpha launch of any MMORPG is going to be hot garbage with server and connection issues.

However, I think people should still wait months, or a year or two before taking a real serious look at it.

Just fantastic.

It is indeed early access though. A bit of performance problems here and there. Plus, some buggy pathfinding does happen when lots of people try to use the same door. Nothing game breaking though, at least for me. Certainly well above acceptable for early access. They seem to patch is very often too, just today there were three updates I saw.

The gameplay loop is very satisfying and there is a lot of depth to the management sim. Also lots of good humor.

I don't care for battle royale, but its still a good game.
Negative reviews are mostly just grumpy people from reddit or something.

It is ok, and starts out really fun. Then it just kind of falls apart.
Combat just turns into you dodging 80% of the time, because enemy attack patterns don't seem to match player ability. You have a heavy attack and a charged heavy attack, but there is almost no time to ever use them. Then when you do the damage is pretty much the same as a few light attacks.

Bosses are extremely easy, and only ever difficult when they spawn extra normal enemies. The bosses have cool attacks and well telegraphed patterns, which could be made harder rather easily. And having "adds" on every boss just to make them somewhat challenging is really silly.

Items and upgrades are ok, and there are some neat synergies. They were inspired by Risk of Rain 2, but they really should have followed it closer if they wanted that same fun factor. Literally just a "melee" Risk of Rain 2 with the combat from Godbreakers would amazing. Instead we have just a series of rooms with enemies over and over, and extremely limited equipment slots.

Even without the rogulike elements it is one of the best beat 'em ups to come around in a long time.

I does have deflect and parry (called clash) mechanics, but it does them in unique, more forgiving way that is meant to be easily weaved into combos. It is easily the best addition to the core gameplay and absolutely something I would hope to see in future beat 'em up games.

It has all the things that most roguelike games have, but what it really does better than others is the long term progression. The gameplay changes a lot the as you unlock more and more upgrades.

Lots of layers to experiment with on builds. Especially with some characters that straight up change it into an entirely different type of game.

Easily about 20 hours of gameplay for just getting through the core game and unlocks. Then it does do endless progression past that if you want to really go nuts.

It is a carbon copy of WoW Mythic+

That is good, but that is literally all it is. So don't expect anything more. Kind of a wasted opportunity to add some unique elements to the formula.

It also means any negative aspects that were there are still there.
