This is a hard one. Like many other reviewers, I wish I could advocate a "thumb to the side." Short of it is - buy it on sale.

PROS:
-The game looks phenomenal. Everything surrounding its art direction is top-notch. Enemies are varied and their attack patterns are personalized, characters look great at all times, level select and transitions are standouts.
-The game sounds phenomenal. The OST is stellar. It does a great job of blending the Binding-of-Isaac inspired music with synths and guitars. Really, really fun to listen to.
-It's fun! The bosses' individual quirks are all manageable and interesting, and the gameplay is unique - in a good way.
CONS:
-The writing is REALLY bad. The characters behave differently in different scenes constantly, every "big reveal" is laughable (Larry just shows up as the 2nd to last boss out of nowhere?), there's meant to be some sort of touching relationship that is as hackneyed as possible, and the story is almost impossible to follow. There are even times I'm not sure any proofreading was done whatsoever (why would Ray ask to put a pin in the dad thing if he's being called "mr. exorcist"). Obviously, the story isn't a big part of games like these, but seeing the care put into other elements and the lack of care into this one gives you whiplash.
-For as cool as it looks, the demonic transformations don’t actually add anything to the game. Sometimes, a boss will flash red at the start of the sequence, and then you type the same three words and functionally watch a cutscene before continuing. Also - small nitpick here, but in a slew of "demonic words" you speak while transformed (a bunch of Cthulhu mythos stuff) they just throw in "rape" like it logically follows after chanting "shog-noggoth."
-It feels unfinished. It's only about 3 hours and change, not counting the postgame. There's a lot of functionality that's just untouched - the computer, the archives, etc. Little things are irritating: the stage select screen abbreviates locations but requires you to write the entire thing, which isn't always intuitive. The skip cutscene function doesn't actually skip the cutscene - it skips to the next conversation beat, which means often you're better off keymashing. The ending cutscene doesn't have word wrap turned on, so you can't read some lines.
-There's a HUGE difficulty spike at the cardinal. I'm a pretty average typist - the previous fights took me one try, usually, and from cardinal on it was an hour-long slog to make it through each level.
-The final boss is a letdown. There are a ton of safe spots, no textual gimmick, and it's Latin the whole time.

All in all, it's got the bones of a fun game and it's a fantastic way to kill an afternoon. I'd absolutely recommend it at a sale price, but probably not sticker.
