Such an interesting world, I remember being scared of the big daddy / little sister adverts I'd see as a kid when this came out, so finally playing it now for the first time has been a joy.

So so so incredibly buggy, I got a glitch where I was stuck listening to turret fire for 20 minutes straight, and another glitch where the enemies would fly into the ceiling every time they died (this occurred the entire game), and the remaster doesn't really do the game justice - I honestly wish I played the original instead.

Such good music as well, the tone and the setting is so well done, it carries the game. HOWEVER, things really do take a dive after the whole Fontaine reveal, and the last section of the game is a slog that I just wanted to finish asap.

Don't really feel a need to collect every achievement on this one, it was fun and I enjoyed it's world, just don't think I'll revisit it again (except for within its sequel!)

Just a good, old-fashioned game clearly made by people who make games they want to play, rather than just to make money. Not perfect by any stretch, but development continues even after coming out of early access.

Diablo II-esq, with better character development, plus crafting (but not too much), and really distinct choices that carry through the game.

This is a very well constructed game that unfolds like a good book. Which is probably a good analogy, as the game would be best appreciated by those who enjoy reading books - if you find you don't have the patience for books then you won't enjoy this game and that probably explains some of the negative reviews.

All that said, I picked the game up for $5 in the Summer Sale, and that is a fair price - I would have felt ripped off if I'd paid full price ($20) for the less-than 2 hours it took to finish the game.

Saying too much about the story that unfolds would quickly lead to spoiler alerts, but suffice to say the writers have done an excellent job of layering emotional, sinister, and mystery storylines. There are times when the game guides you too obviously - many of the notes left for you to find are just too unrealistic and a just pushing you in the direction to go. Most "puzzles" have only one solution, so judged purely on game mechanics it's pretty basic. But as an interactive story, with a well thought out environment it's great.

Just don't pay retail.
