THE FINALS is a one-of-a-kind (dev-coined) dynamism shooter; one with excellent and dynamic gameplay, yet not without painpoints which need to be addressed to go from a good game to a great one.

It's biggest strength is it's gameplay, offering a unique gameplay loop through dynamic map destruction, three different classes which feature three or four specialisations each and a gamemode which the whole game was built around: Cashout.

This paired with an expansive cosmetic system, completely free-to-play progression to unlock equipment (and cosmetics outside of the battlepass) and worldbuilding which justify the game's absurd elements lead to a game which is great to pick up for a shooter fan who yearn for a "different" experience.

Despite having been out for a while now however, the game can still struggle on certain aspects, such as poorly received balancing decisions, lobbies having players with vast skill level differences and a rising issue of cheaters the dev team are struggling to keep in pace of. Many also lament that voice-acted characters including the player character voices use AI-assisted TTS-models.

If you aren't discouraged by the currently mentioned painpoints present in the game (that I could think of), the game remains to be highly recommended to those who are willing to give it a shot.

THE FINALS is a solid 7.5/10, with the potential to become a game you include in your main rotation.

This game is your one-way ticket to an overall amazing experience with an amazing community of all walks of life.

Online lobbies being server browser-based help you immensely at negating the amount of negative encounters you'll have with randoms, of which occur very rarely so long as you aren't setting demanding expectations from your teammates, especially when said teammate is a newcomer.

The laser pointer, it's ping interactions and other social features, like the legendary salute, also make this game extremely friendly to people who don't use voice chat, allowing for mostly similar social engagement you'd get by VC, but with the added benefit of letting a dwarf voice your thoughts in the form of a ping or a 'Rock and Stone'

The game also caters to solo enthusiasts thanks to missions allowing you to have Bosco with you when solo, a very handy drone which can help aid you in certain aspects in your mission you'd otherwise take forever with depending on which class you're currently rocking (and stoning)

Progression is very open and very consumer-friendly, which can make you feel compelled to buy the cosmetic packs just to drip out your Dwarf and further support the game, but you can get some great drip even when you don't choose to buy any cosmetic packs. Especially as a newcomer you can feel like there's never nothing you couldn't do to progress in the game, whether it's to complete a Battlepass (of which you can choose between, btw), to farm Overclocks post-first promotion, which can greatly influence how your weapons function or to simply keep farming for more cosmetics over time to expand your dwarf's wardrobe from the humble default looks to your own little crew of dripped out dwarves!


Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone who either has former experience with co-op shooters or wants to use this game as a sort of introduction to this genre. It's cheap, takes very little storage space compared to it's competitors and has a great community overall with very few bad apples in it (so long as you get familiar with the server browser and understand to avoid sweatier lobbies, at least as a beginner)

Overall great game when it comes to building your own little stories within it.

Silly narrative videos about it really sell the variety your runs can have if you're willing to be experimental with both how you choose to approach your run and what mods and modifiers your run will be using to shake things up even more so than with a default vanilla run.

Progression can initially feel like a massive boulder to overcome due to how feeble your characters feel like in the early game, but it can quickly snowball into you rising higher up in the food chain of this weird world you've been put into.

The vanilla experience can feel a little jarring though, mainly due to the soundtrack occasionally being really jarring with seldom variety. I recommend seeing if you could fix it with some mod or to simply turn down the music when you've had enough and turn on your own music of choice to further immerse yourself in a specific kind of vibe, even if some of the tracks in this game are great.

Very solid game fundamentally which helps you forget the jank it has in it likely due to being built around a game engine so ancient most if not all budding game developers have never heard of it.

It's very much a game for a person of acquired taste, but I'd highly recommend it to anyone that has watched Kenshi videos and thought "I wanna put my playable character(s) through hell, too! (so I get more attached to them)"

Just keep in mind that edited videos skim a lot of fat out of what tends to be lots of hours' worth of gameplay into a more digestible long-form video with narration included in it.

This game has had a bumpy past, but despite it has proven to be one of the greatest third person shooter experiences on the market.

Great gameplay, reasonable monetisation, all kinds of builds to choose from the more you progress in-game, overall great experience with a wonderful community for the most part.

The recent HALO and underground terrain updates show an optimistic future for content to feature equally hype and interesting content.
