Very promising stuff based from the demo. It's like if the Wario Ware and the Mario & Luigi games were made by some guys who grew up on Adult Swim and Newgrounds content. Great cartoony art style, soundtrack is cooking, interactions between the characters are funny and charming, and the mini games are fun and wacky too. Can't wait for the full game to release!

A love letter to platformers of N64 Yesteryear, Corn Kidz 64 is a charming little adventure that doesn't take itself seriously in the best way possible.

Fans of games like Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64 will know what to expect heading into this. It's a 3D platformer that has you running and jumping around this dream world beating up evil creatures and collecting maguffins along the way to progress. It's simple stuff but it works. This dream world that you're in also has NPC's that you can interact with, and they can sometimes give hints as to what you can do or where to go. The dialogue from the characters can feel very "lol randum XD" which was funny at times and cute early on but got a little annoying later on.

Story wise, it leaves to be desired in my opinion. You play as a goat named Seve, who has ended up trapped in his reoccurring nightmare and needs to escape. Luckily, his friend Alexis shows up to help break him free. Again, simple stuff but it works. Easy to follow.

Presentation is a huge positive this game has going for it. It obviously strives for the low-poly, cute and bouncy look of the platformers it takes inspiration from, but the promotional art is great too, it leans heavily towards what early Nickelodeon shows looked like and it's fantastic. It's a bit of a shame none of this art shows up in-game at all. It's a colourful dream world you're exploring here, and the audio compliments the environments and characters perfectly. It boasts a dynamic soundtrack that I love, the tunes stay catchy whilst changing slightly to fit the scene you're in. Characters and enemies are lively and animated with plenty of squash and stretch, again going back to the whole early Nickelodeon feel.

Moving onto gameplay, and everything here is solid. Well, for the most part anyway. You can walk, jump, tip-toe, punch, crouch, stab with your one horn, the main basics for a 3D platformer is here. The level design is good, Wolloh's Hollow is a fun little world to explore with plenty of secret areas, hidden goodies, and little odd bits to search for. The same even goes for the tutorial world too. They provide enough challenge that veterans of this genre would get a kick out of, whilst also not being too difficult that newcomers can't enjoy it. A lot of the platforming challenges, like the ones in the mirror worlds, can be flat-out ignored if you're having trouble with them. Now while the controls are smooth and responsive, they do also come with some issues. Being that this game is a love letter to the N64 era, and strives to control like the titles it's inspired from, it also comes at the cost of having a little jank here and there. Later on in the game, I consistently found myself fighting with the camera. Early game this isn't an issue as the levels are fairly wide open , but in the later game (especially the Tower) the camera would often be my worst enemy. It's an issue that plagues a lot of early platformers, and it's still unfortunately here to a certain extent. I also found the wall jump to really clunky too. Sometimes I can jump pretty head-on into a wall and it just wouldn't let me wall jump from it? I think a lot of it had to do with my camera placement, but later challenges often got unnecessarily annoying because of this.

The game can be beaten in around 4-6 hours, with plenty of optional secrets and collectibles to explore for if you didn't get around to them in the main playthrough. A relatively short adventure, but you get what you pay for, and then some. I personally didn't find myself really wanting to go back to collect all the things I missed, both because I felt contempt and happy that my main playthrough was finished and experienced everything I wanted to, but also because I just didn't want to deal with more camera jank for the secret stages.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Corn Kidz 64. If you've got an itch for a short adventure that begs it was released 25 years ago, this is absolutely for you. Indie games like this have absolutely no shame in admitting what they're trying to replicate, and why should they? It knows what it wants to be, it knows what YOU want it to be, and if you're looking for an N64 platformer, then you've got it right here and it excels in being that. Slight jank included.

It's essentially a babies first Zelda game, but I don't mean that as an insult in the slightest. It has no shame in admitting what game it draws heavy influence from, and if you're going to take inspiration then you may as well take it from one of the greatest games of all time.

The game has you exploring 4 different worlds. It's an adventure title, each world has you navigating around a large open area, fighting enemies, looking for secrets, doing the odd sidequest here and there, and eventually finishing up by going through a dungeon to fight the boss of that world and grab an upgrade. Do this 4 times and you unlock the final boss. Beat the boss and you beat the game. Simple stuff but it works.

Let's begin with presentation. Low poly fantasy world that harkens back to the N64 era of gaming. Low res textures, low poly pointy models, it's all here and it works. In terms of level and world design, it leaves a lot to be desired. Remember playing Ocarina of Time and how slow it was to walk across Hyrule Field? The worlds give off that exact same feeling. It can be nice to run across these open lands, enjoy the music and soak in the environment and atmosphere, but there just isn't enough going on to enjoy it for long. The worlds felt just a little too big and empty. Valkie would've benefitted by having these condensed down a bit. I'd rather explore a small environment that's rich and full of life than a large open wasteland that feels large for the sake of being that. World theming was a bit of a let down too. You have your generic grass land, snow land, desert land, they just don't feel very creative. This issue causes them to be rather forgettable, which is a shame.

Moving on to combat/controls. It's fine. You can unlock new combos via a little shop place in the first world, but I never felt the need to do that. You can parry enemy attacks which is clunky at first but you get the hang of it quickly. Mastering this, I just never felt the need to expand my moveset at all. I just dodged and parried my way through the entire game, and it worked. It has the same targeting system used in Ocarina, albeit a little more jank to use.

Story time and I'll be honest, I can't really remember what the story was here. I think some evil person took over the worlds, and you've been tasked with going through them saving everyone. There wasn't really a whole lot of storytelling here, I just went through each world, did 1 or 2 sidequests, head straight for the dungeon, and move onto the next one. The NPC's are rather boring to interact with, acting more as hint tellers for where you could go next. I wanted to learn more about the environments I was in but it felt like the game just wanted me to focus on progressing further instead which is a real shame. Granted, it's not a long game by any means, and I don't think it tries to be, but it just leaves me wanting a little more from the story and characters.

If it seems like I'm just listing off everything wrong about this game, that's not what I wanted to go for at all. This game has a weird charm to it, and I firmly believe that if you did play adventure games of the era that this takes so much inspiration from then you'd have a nice little time with it. I certainly did. Value for money? Yeah I'd say you get enough content worth the price tag. I believe this was developed mainly by one guy, or at least a very small team. It's clear that they weren't trying to be overly ambitious with this at all, it's advertised as a little love letter to the games that inspired it, and it works just as that. I look forward to seeing what else the team produce going forward, and seeing how they can improve the fundamentals of what worked here and adapt them into something much bigger and creatively ambitious.

TLDR; A cute little adventure game inspired heavily by Ocarina of Time, that just falls a little bit flat by lacking a lot of the creativity that made that game work so well. 3/5 because while it's lacking a lot of creativity and a unique identity, it still makes for a cosy little adventure to wind down to, especially for the price tag.

This game is only a few pounds (or bucks if you're american) and you certainly get what you pay for but that's not a bad thing in the slightest. The term "short but sweet" springs to mind when I think of this game.

Visually, the game looks good for the style it strives for. Fans of PS1 and N64 platformers will get a kick out of the visual style here. Soundtrack is very cute and bouncy, which fits the overall aesthetic here.

Controls are very tight and responsive, and the stages provide a fun level of challenge for those who wish to go for better times for the S-ranks.

The game is pretty short with only 9 levels, and the game can be finished in around 20 minutes if you're just wanting to get to the end. I feel like this is a very good example for a newcomers entry into 3D platformers.

Looks like ass, sounds like ass and certainly plays like ass. This game has pretty much nothing going for it, other than the music maybe but I don't remember a single tune from it. Just an incredibly boring, uninspired mess of a Sonic game.

It's not worth checking out, unless you are a very serious die-hard Sonic fan who somehow hasn't yet and even then you've got to be REALLY curious.

The pinnacle of VR and one of the only games worth buying a VR headset for. Not much more needs to be said. Play it.
