I don't know how I ever played this as a child. Completing all campaigns is a trial akin to a triathlon through the 9 circles of hell.

Do NOT buy this game. It is a scam!

From poor and tedious game mechanics to frequent spelling mistakes and wrong translations, this game will only hinder you from actually learning hiragana effectively.

Who's Lila? is one of those great mysteries that make you feel bad for solving it. To anyone wanting a complete experience I suggest trying to reach the 15 endings and coming to your own conclusions.

Getting the obligatory praise for the stunning visuals out of the way- this game feels like a draft of a game rather than a finished product.

I can see the combat being serviceable in a demo, but the game utterly fails in evolving and expanding it's mechanics in a meaningful way, going so far as to reusing enemies and patterns to make up for the lack of an arsenal the player has.

You would think a game with such lackluster encounters would at least make the traversal the real challenge then, but sadly this is the game's weakest aspect. For most of it, the platforming is absurdly simple, and only serves wake you up when getting bored of the abruptly placed insta-death traps and copy/paste encounters around the world.
One good example being towards the end of the game, where they decided to place a checkpoint between two moving platforms over a death pit. The challenge is simply waiting for the platform to be close enough to jump on, then waiting for the next one to align. No gameplay, no challenge, and not even the relief of escaping the obstacles for even one brief moment.

What's worse, is that the game also tries to be a metroidvania, leaving certain collectibles behind closed doors for later. A type of level design I'm usually fond of, as it makes you engage in learning your environment and tests your observation. Sadly there's rarely ever a satisfying reward behind these doors, leaving you with a feeling of having wasted time by playing through the exact same drawn-out platforming sequences again, without the novelty of seeing it for the first time.

The only thing really motivating you to keep playing the game is the intriguing world and promise that your efforts will be rewarded. Sadly that is also used against you, as the game rarely lets you interact with characters in meaningful ways while also frequently locking you out from progressing their story lines with arbitrary invisible counters that eventually kill them off.
While I usually appreciate developers who require you pay attention and engage in the world in order to get the best outcome, it feels unfair when nothing is clearly communicated or telegraphed. It completely robs you of the immersion to rely on outside information (searching wikis, guides or playing the game multiple times) in order to get rewarded.

There's so much more I'd like to say about this game, but it's already wasted enough of my time.

Monster Hunter Rise is best played with friends, but is also a good single player experience for those just wanting to challenge themselves and simply enjoy an addicting action gameplay loop without much baggage.

It is a known fact that throughout the years, the gaming industry has gone through a sort of osmosis of complacency. A proclivity for safe, marketable ideas with an almost guarantee of success.

Where as most developers find comfort in the 'conveyor belt' style of shelling out products, Huniepot yet again goes against the grain with another daring, thought provoking piece that questions our place in the universe and the relationships we build in a struggle to confirm our own agency.

At first glance, the emotions in Huniepop 2 might appear raw, unfiltered and perhaps even a bit frightening, but it is in this confrontation of our mortal fears that the game manages to present it's gameplay loop- not as a hindrance, but as an obstacle for the player to overcome.

No, this is not the tale of Sisyphus. Huniepop 2 utilizes it's abstract narrative and challenging puzzles to engage you with all five senses. The questions that lie at the heart of the journey are what keeps you coming back, inching your way up the mountain until that final, euphoric release which leaves you dried up and satisfied.

Truly an achievement in storytelling and game design that might not yet be appreciated in our time but that will definitely stand as one of the great catalysts that brought gaming into a new golden age.
