Calling Terraria a 2D clone of Minecraft is doing both games a disservice. Sure, Terraria shares the sandbox and building aspects, but it really shines in its exploring capabilities.

As many have commented before, the game has tons of exploring to do. Not just mining for better equipment, mind you, but also looking out for helpful NPCs, discovering secrets below (and above!), learning how to deal with the enemies, the terrain and the bosses. Preparing your fort against invasions, creating the perfect place to relax... and all of this is before Hardmode, where the real meat of the game lies.

Terraria is a bit obscure by design. It's meant to be taken as a world to explore, a world of unknowns. Finding new things, trying new strategies is the heart and soul of this game.

Do not let the age and apparent simple mechanics fool you, as of the time of writing this review, the developers have supported and expanded this game for 8 years now, without DLC or microtransactions BS. Think about that the next time you see an Early Access game rushed out.

Even if you pay full price for this game, you're getting one of the best games on Steam when it comes to price per hours played. Seriously, you're getting quite a bang for your buck here, and we haven't even discussed the mod scene...
