This game is honestly a lot more relaxing (and frankly, easier) than most Zachtronics games. If you're familiar with the style you'll probably be able to work through the main story pretty quick. That doesn't mean it's easy - there are definitely some tough puzzles, especially among the extras after the main story - but in general the unlimited space for mechanisms and instructions make it less critical to come up with a "good" solution. In some ways this was the most fun I had playing a Zachtronics game. It's pretty chill and the theme is cool.

Definitely recommend as a first entry to the genre or for veterans to play something a little more casual.

As other reviews say - this definitely has more puzzle game DNA than it initially lets on. But unlike most puzzle games it ends up being pretty thrilling, too. Each turn gives you perfect information so you can plan out really clever attacks, but after each turn the bugs get a chance to randomly set up attacks on your mechs and the civilian buildings. Each turn you get the chance to find a "solution" that pushes the bugs out of the way, fools them into attacking each other, or lines up a shot through three at once for big damage, etc.

Similar to FTL (same developer) in that they managed to take a normally slow-paced format and make it exciting. If nothing else play it to appreciate the masterful game design, and then keep playing just because it's fun to blow up bugs.

Really tough but really fun. The puzzles always force you to think and (as always with Zachtronics games) if you like to hyperoptimize you'll love it. I should emphasize again that this game is HARD but satisfying.

What sets this game apart (for me) is the instructions on the grid itself - unlike a lot of similar games (by Zachtronics and others, e.g. Human Resource Machine) is that you're fundamentally limited by the board space. Your solutions have to have some level of efficiency and there's no way to brute force your way to a dumb solution... but when you get it, it's beautiful every time.

Definitely holds up 12 or 13 years on. This is one of those games that lets you learn as you play. You feel yourself getting better at it with each attempt. The balance of randomness is good enough to make it interesting without (often) feeling unfair. The combat feels fast-paced even though you can pause any time - if you don't protect yourself, one good shot can take out your weapons or shields and make it a nail-biter. This is a game that lives on the strength of its game design, and it's clear that the developers thought it through and delivered something great. Soundtrack is also really solid.

Possibly the best puzzle game I've played on Steam - I'm not typically a Sokoban player but this really hits the spot. The mechanics are limited but they carry a lot of surprises. Each puzzle bends your brain without feeling like you need some secret knowledge to figure out what the designer was going for.
