It's a damn shame 38 studios isn't a thing anymore
tl;dr Hack&Slash RPG that is 100% worth your money if you want a time sink and a decent story set in a visually outstanding world.

Stumbled upon this gem a while back. Fantastic time sink for anyone looking to lose hours of their day in a sytlistically dissimilar game.

It's a Hack&Slash RPG. This means that for those who like to fawn over the mechanics of combat in other RPGs, you may find some issues with this game. After a few hours, repitition does rear its' head if you only tend to play one type of the 3 main RPG classes (Spells and pointy hat, quick with a small stick and slow with a big stick).

That being said, the game rewards you immensely for spending skill points in all of the 3 main skill trees and usingthe varied types of weapons. Some of the attacks you can pull off with well timed spells after ranged/melee combos are simply outstanding.

Story doesn't usually rank highly on my list of things I think NEED to be good for a game to be good but it certainly helps, especially in an RPG. The main quest in Reckoning will send you all over the place in stages, typical to any modern fantasy title. It takes you on a monumental adventure, eventually taking on an enemy no one had a damn clue existed and saving the day etc. good stuff all around.

It's in my personal opinion that ending was a bit weak and that it lets down the story as a whole. Rather than bundle up everything, it sort of hangs loose. This may have been due to a desire to create a sequel.

Nitpicking for those super into game mechanics i.e. CONS GO HERE
The world itself looks outstanding, however the only real issue I had with this entire game was the lack of ANY major verticality. The world is by no means planar, but the only transition between up, middle and down was if you interacted with the world to perform a jump into a roll landing from up above OR the world slopes down/up to meet the next area.
Even if the height difference is an inch, you can't simply step up to that height.

While released in 2012, the game has aged fairly well. Would absolutely recommend if it comes up in your Summer Steam sale or a normal purchase if you're simply looking for a solid game.
