So I have fully beaten the game now, and I have to say I am disappointed by poor follow through on a great initial game. The first third or maybe even half of the game is decently fun (enough to hook me in) as a unique take on the survival crafting genre by making a bespoke setting based on SCP and Half Life. When I say based on, I mean it is Half Life in all but name a lot of the time, with some SCP influence thrown in.

The trouble comes when you get past the initial areas of the game and suddenly the amount of health that enemies have, and the amount of damage they do increases enormously. This game becomes a time sink, as you have to spend hours grinding for the resources you need to progress. Recipies don't make any logical sense because they need arcane or bizarre ingredients that are exceptionally rare. To make a rocket launcher, you need the blood of an exotic irradiated elite alien, no you can't pick up one of the dozens of rocket launchers that enemies have been using against you. Forget about using guns, because in order to be allowed to use any of them you need to spend dozens of hours grinding your 'aiming' skill before you can create special armwraps that let you use the gun. Not that being able to use it is actually worthwhile because they feel completely underpowered (several magazines to kill grunt tier enemies in the second half of the game) and the ammo is scarce to the point that it totally breaks immersion (that enemy just emptied several magazines at me, what do you mean he only drops 3 bullets for this assault rifle?). The scarcity of ammo totally and completely precludes you from being able to us automatic weapons (I honestly don't know why they're in the game).

Melee has it's own problems with scaling, but ultimately regardless of what fighting style you go for, the enemies feel like they just have way too much health to the point that doesn't make any sense. This wouldn't be a problem if you didn't have to kill enormous numbers of them to grind the resources you need to progress. The final section of the game takes away your main mobility tool (the jetpack) to force you to grind for more hours to get a suit that lets you double jump.

The ending is also awful, I won't spoil it here, look up what everyone (even the die hard fans) are saying on the subreddit. The story is confusing and poorly told. I listened to all the audio logs, all the dialogues, and paid attention the whole time, and I have no idea what was happening by the end. Pro tip if the devs read this, referring to all the anomalies by similar sounding numbers that the player hasn't memorized (theres like 40) means the player doesn't know what you're referring to when you just say the number. I honestly left the game really confused as to what happened at the end, and I'm not the only one.

The voice acting is amatuer but not grating, though the main voice log character is great. Oh and this is more of a peeve than anything but there is one character who is a shapeshifter. This isn't a spoiler, it's the most obvious story point in the game. Characters talk about him being a shapeshifter constantly. However, every time you meet him, he acts like you don't know. I thought this was meant to be a comedic bit for most of the game (because it's funny he's still pretending when it's obvious. However, at the end of the game, it's played as though he really did pull the wool over your eyes, which is kind of annoying because it undercuts any player agency, but more than that, tells us our main character is an idiot for doing what he did, even though structurally it wasn't up to you.

In summary, a cool game with a great style, setting, and gameplay premise, that is totally undercut by balancing decisions that turn a fun 20-30 hour experience into a boring 80-100 hour experience. Also the story doesn't really make any sense. Imagine playing half life one, but noone ever explains to Gordon Freeman what's going on, the G-Man just quotes nonsensical poetry at you, and then when you are forced to kill the nihilanth the credits roll with no explanation. Which is a shame, because this game could be really good.

Quite fun, I recommend not looking anything up ahead of time and just figuring it out as you go.

Campaign is way too hard. AI just gets huge numbers of units for free. I can't speak to how fun any missions are past the first one because after 6 tries I can't beat it.

I've never played any of the earlier iterations of this game, or anything like that. I saw it after a streamer played a bit and it looked neat. Sadly its not really fun. You sail around and your ship shoots at other ships, some of them players and some of them little AI ships, you're trying to destroy their base. There's a ton of different ships and weapons and things you can get but its a bit of an information overload, get ready to do a lot of reading of abilities and things. I tried a few different ships and the abilities were neat, but it always seemed like the enemies were faster or stronger than me. It's tough to get kills and easy to die.

This game is really not accessible to anyone other than the die hards who are coming in from the earlier versions. There's also no real way to communicate with your team, and cooperation seems nonexistent (Unless of course you are playing with your friends I guess). I tried a healer ship in one game but my teammates just ran away from me and leaving me stranded to get killed by the enemy who had grouped up lol.

The game has a *very* small player population that seems to consist mostly of people who are REALLY good at the game.

In conclusion, stay away if you didn't play the predecessor games.

There was a little too much randomness for me, and I could kind of see where the synergies come into play but it felt pretty simplistic and your ability to actually see your build in action totally depended on what order you get tiles each round. Then again I didn't really like Balatro or Slay the Spire either, so take this review with a grain of salt.

Played a bit in early access to make sure it was what I was hoping it would be. It was and now I am waiting till they finish it. Can't wait. I'll update my review when it's done. If this game is half as good as the first one it will be awesome.

This is a game that is still unfinished and hasn't received a content update in over a year and a half, with no word of one on the horizon. Play it when it's done in a decade maybe.

It's pretty much the best accessible modern combat flight sim in VR. You don't need anything other than your headset/controllers. The single player missions are decently fun and there's an active multiplayer community that seems to be a 50/50 mix of tryhards using military lingo who are insanely good, and literal children. But it isn't a toxic community so learning isn't too hard. The DLCs aren't really worth it in my opinion, the base game has the best and most popular 2 aircraft. If you want to do some military combat aircraft simulation without needing extra equipment or to spend more than a couple hours learning, this is the game for you. It is tough though, and like real modern air combat, its mostly just shooting missiles guided by various kinds of radar and computers. If you jump into multiplayer expect to be shot down a lot.
