It Takes Two – A Game That Earned Every Bit of Its GOTY Crown

It isn’t just a co-op game. It’s a reminder of why games can be art, why they can surprise you, and why they can make you feel things you didn’t expect — even when you think you’ve seen it all.

I played it with a close male friend, and despite not playing it with a romantic partner, the game still managed to stir emotions in a very real way. That alone says a lot about how strong its storytelling and character work are. The themes of connection, communication, and growth cut through the screen, regardless of who you’re sharing the controller with.

From a pure gameplay perspective, the game is ridiculously creative. Every level introduces new mechanics, ideas, and twists, and none of them overstay their welcome. Just when you think, “Okay, I get this,” the game moves on and reinvents itself again. It feels handcrafted, playful, and confident — like a team that knew exactly what kind of experience they wanted to deliver.

Visually and artistically, it’s bursting with personality. Environments are imaginative, expressive, and constantly surprising. There’s a childlike sense of wonder mixed with emotional maturity, which is a rare balance to pull off this well.

This was also my first Game of the Year winner that I actually played on Steam, and honestly? I get it now. This is what GOTY is supposed to mean — not just technical excellence, but a game that leaves a lasting impression.

Not everything was perfect. Near the very end, we started running into frustrating disconnect issues on my friend’s side. Thankfully, we managed to bypass it by playing locally through Parsec, so it didn’t rob us of the ending — but it’s still worth mentioning.

Even with that hiccup, It Takes Two is unforgettable. It’s bold, emotional, endlessly inventive, and deeply human. Few games make you smile, laugh, feel uncomfortable, and reflect — all while asking you to cooperate and trust the person next to you.

A modern co-op masterpiece, and a well-earned GOTY. 🎮💜

While there is some fun to be had in the DLC, the overall experience ended up being disappointing due to its technical state. I played it on my PC — a very beefy setup that normally has no trouble running demanding games — and the issues were immediately noticeable.

The DLC suffers from frequent bugs, including collision problems that can cause you to get stuck in certain areas, as well as doors that simply refuse to open and block progression. On top of that, performance becomes increasingly unstable as you get closer to the end. Heavy lag and stuttering show up regularly, making the experience frustrating rather than enjoyable.

I ultimately pushed through and finished the DLC mainly to reach 100% achievements, but doing so often felt more like a chore than a reward. It’s hard not to feel that the DLC was rushed and poorly optimized. While the ideas themselves aren’t bad and parts of it can be genuinely fun, the technical problems overshadow those positives almost entirely — especially when compared to how polished and enjoyable the base game is.

For a first full playthrough on the Deck, this turned out to be a really pleasant experience. The difficulty stays on the relaxed side throughout, with enemies and bosses that are easy to read and handle, making it a great fit for handheld sessions. The platforming follows the same philosophy: straightforward, forgiving, and rarely frustrating.

Visually, the game has a lot of charm. The stylized art direction works well, and the environments feel lively and colorful without being overwhelming. Each area has its own personality, and the vibrant palette gives the whole adventure a lighthearted, almost cozy tone.

The story is simple and very linear, but that works in its favor. It doesn’t try to overcomplicate things, instead delivering a classic adventure that feels familiar and charming. It genuinely brought me back to my childhood days, reminding me of cartoonish shows and animated movies where everything felt playful, colorful, and full of character.

Performance-wise, the game ran smoothly on the Deck from start to finish. I encountered a few minor bugs that required restarting a level, but they were rare and never serious enough to break immersion or diminish the fun. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable game to play on a portable device, and finishing it on the Deck felt both satisfying and fitting for the kind of experience it offers.

Play this game if you hate your life. No seriously, the game is fun, but it's hectic and needs all your six senses to work simultaneously.

Yet another awesome game from Landfall that has Stick Fight: The Game vibes... but this one better, as it has powerups... super funny with friends

This experience felt less like playing a game and more like being gently guided through emotions I’ve been carrying for a long time. Without a single word, it managed to connect deeply with what I’m personally going through, mirroring feelings of loss, healing, and acceptance in a way that felt almost uncomfortably honest.

There were moments where I caught myself tearing up — not because the game was trying to force emotion, but because it trusted silence. It allowed space to feel, to remember, and to reflect. Watching the world slowly come back together felt personal, like reconnecting with something fragile that had been missing for a while. When it ended, I didn’t feel “done” — I felt understood. And that’s something I’ll carry with me long after the screen faded to black.

This is my first real extraction shooter, and honestly… what a ride.

I barely have experience with this genre, so I expected a learning curve, but instead I found myself completely hooked. The tension when you’re trying to extract, the way every decision feels risky, the intensity when an enemy ARC spots you... it’s all insane. You really forget that you're playing a game, since this game is pure cinema!

Every raid feels like a story. Every extraction feels earned.

You can really tell how much love and care have been poured into this, from the atmosphere to the smooth gameplay loop. It’s stylish, immersive, and it stands out from other shooters in the best way possible.

Good job, Embark!
I genuinely hope this game succeeds and sticks around for a long time.

Split Fiction is one of those rare games that completely captures your imagination. Its creativity is unmatched — every world feels unique, alive, and full of care. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and the action is over-the-top in the best possible way. You can feel the passion in every tiny detail the developers put into it.

I played as Zoe, while my friend played as Mio, and that choice made our experience even more special. He connected deeply with Mio’s sci-fi stories, while I was drawn to Zoe’s fantasy worlds. The ending hit me harder than I expected — I honestly couldn’t hold back my tears.

Split Fiction isn’t just a game; it’s a beautiful emotional journey that I’ll remember for a long time.

⭐ 10/10 — Highly recommended.

I just finished Hollow Knight, and honestly, it’s one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time. The world is so atmospheric — quiet, mysterious, and a bit sad in the best way. Every new area feels like it has its own story, and the music ties it all together perfectly.

The combat took me a bit to get used to, but once it clicks, it’s incredibly satisfying. Boss fights can be brutal, but that makes finally beating them so rewarding. I also really liked how the game doesn’t explain everything — you kind of discover the story and mechanics as you go, and it makes the exploration feel more personal.

Big thanks to my friend who’s a total Hollow Knight expert — I streamed the whole thing to him, and he guided me through the tough parts (and laughed every time I fell into spikes). Couldn’t have done it without him.

If you’re on the fence about trying it — do it. It’s beautiful, challenging, and unforgettable.
