I've fallen through terrain a few times, the map is such a tiny speck compared to the base game, and the difficulty curve compared to the base game is a bit steep. The new ore "lootbox" system feels way more forgiving than relying on extractors but only after it gets going enough, and you'll spend a lot of early game being extremely stressed out over micromanaging your needs rather than actually enjoying the main experience of what is expected of Planet Crafter. Once you're over that very grueling hump of gameplay, everything suddenly flies at breakneck speed because you're drowning in materials. This feels extremely unbalanced (and a little unfinished) as of right now and needs a few more patches before I can justify a price point above five dollars. Just buy and play the base game and give this dlc a pass for now.

This game literally rocked my world so hard that I ended up on a journey of self-discovery soon after. Very rarely in the industry do we see true works of art overloaded with passion and love, and it was so powerful that it ended up changing me for the better. It's not even two years old, and it's already over.

I've never shed tears over the closing of any company before. All I can do now is try to keep the memory of this beautiful creation alive through my cosplay and guitar playing. I'm going to do my best.

Thanks for everything, Tango. I hope you guys find somewhere that will truly appreciate you for the hard work you do. Goodbye, and good luck.

I'm completely revising this review, but only keeping it simple because I really just want to play right now instead of spending time trying to convince someone that shouldn't even need convincing on buying/playing this absolute work of art.

They fixed literally everything problematic, dumped a ton of quality of life into the game, then finally allowed me to repeat my all time favorite boss fight, which not having that as a feature was why I had this set as not recommended in the first place so that immediately changed my view entirely.

There are still very few minor bugs that are fixed on soft restart of the game, but I am so so so thankful that the devs listened and pumped out one hell of a banger alongside so many intense free updates that have me so satisfied for the money I initially paid. I'm going to buy all of the dlc soon just so I can further show my support.

Thanks, Massive Monster! You're the best!

This game has no business being this fantastic for as little of a price it boasts. I am only posting this now after almost thirty damn hours of playing it because I stumbled upon some creepypasta ♥♥♥♥ and now I'm wide awake and beyond impressed.

I thought I bought a dopamine simulator. There's just too much depth here to write it off as such.

I cannot wait for the finished product because this is already everything I absolutely love.

Purchased this game because of reviews I saw on social media, and I'm refunding it right this second. I spent an hour and a half almost in a glorified tutorial, learning the basics and just screwing around because it was honestly very fluid and fun control-wise. Since it's so late in the night, I really wanted to go to bed both in game and in real life, but unfortunately in the game it wouldn't let me since it was...still in a tutorial phase. Even though I "slept" after a bunch of dialogue, it didn't save my progress, because I had given up at that point and had to shut the game down so I could go to bed and discovered all three of the game slots were STILL EMPTY. AFTER AN HOUR OF BS, THEY WERE EMPTY AND I COULDN'T PROGRESS ENOUGH TO SAVE AS IT WAS.

I've never seen anything have a problem like this before, so this gets a fat thumbs down from me and I'm taking my money elsewhere. Fantastic.

**Edit: The software is also very poorly optimized. My computer can run newer games at max settings with zero issue, but it gets hotter than hell running this voxel depression pack and even dipped below 60 FPS in some places. Huge yikes.

If you liked Dark Legacy (like I do), give this a hard pass. It's nothing like when the franchise peaked and it never will be.

We need the return of the four-player party RPG now more than ever, and this wasn't it. Nothing describes my immeasurable disappointment upon trying to stomach this for the few friends of mine that never played the previous games but loved this.

Midway is dead, and Gauntlet died with it.

tl;dr: This game is not perfect, but it knows exactly what it's supposed to be and by all means that makes it a perfect addition to the farming sim/rpg genre. Get it if you and a friend or two are fans of Hometown Story/Recettear styles of games and are super into cute as hell living plushies that need their own display at the local Build-A-Bear Workshop.

Presentation stuff:

Extremely simple title screen, very quick and snappy loads with no special animations for any of it made it a bit bland. The pops, snaps, and crunches that happen when you pick up things, interact with the world, or just click on buttons are nice and crisp (some of it is a little satisfying too). The trailer showcased a billion different animal customizations, but what they won't tell you is that nearly all those fancy designs are locked behind slaving away in game to buy the shop to unlock them (at least in Story Mode). You can also get more of these customizations shown to you by selling your wares just outside your house, as you can quite literally watch as people run up the hill to your store from town, all with various colors and face/fur designs (why is this so fun to see I mean seriously wtf is wrong with me???). Other than coming up to buy stuff from you, the NPCs just don't move. Ever. They sit around and do the default looking about idle animation, which literally every single player model has. The world feels stagnant because of this, but also very alive, like it's frozen in time in spite of the changing seasons. The bright, vibrant colors everywhere in the game also create a very cheerful and lovely atmosphere. There's a bunch of emotes, all of which are really just used to do silly things with friends...or make you question reality. There was a particular one that a load screen told me to try without warning me what it was and...these devs are rather cheeky. To really put this into perspective at the end of it all, I assumed this was little more than Baby's First Stardew Valley, and I was pleasantly wrong. It should also be mentioned that this game has an early era Harvest Moon method of tutorial, where it literally just shoves one NPC at you, they tell you a couple things, have you go run a quick errand for them...and then take the leash off to let you run aimlessly around in hopes you'll figure out how to play and/or what to do next. It's perfect.

Technical stuff:

For the most part, interaction with the UI and items in general (especially while sprinting) is surprisingly smooth and very fluid. There were minor bugs (such as trying to talk to NPCs and it would shove my character right up into their faces and clip right through), but nothing game breaking so far. Another user complained that they weren't updating this game anymore, but checking the changelog really disproves that (among literally everything else they were complaining about so I'm unsure if they even played the game to begin with or just wanted to be a jerk). I have not tried to play this with a controller, but mouse and keyboard work exceptionally well to the point that I didn't need to reach for one. I also had no issues with installation or booting up, and no weird graphical things. The default settings were on medium, however, and I opted to leave them the way they were. For everything this game has to offer, I have to say that fitting it all in a bit less than two gigs is fantastic.

Gameplay stuff:

It is very clear that the devs knew what they were doing when designing just how fast a player must be able to go to do anything, because planting, harvesting, picking up items, interactions as a whole are all able to be done almost as fast as the player can click. One major turn off of earlier farming sim games is long and drawn out animations, and you won't find that here. In spite of there being not much of an in your face tutorial, nearly everything was able to be figured out via context clues and just tinkering about very easily. It does not hold your hand, yet it isn't so painstakingly difficult that you fail at anything. The ability to take a nap in the middle of the day to restore energy is an absolutely amazing feature, and I wish more games along this line had it. A major thing about this game also is that it's extremely relaxing. Your mistakes are not so punished that you won't be able to recover from them, but the game isn't so easy as to hand you everything without working for it. Something really nice I will also point out here is that even though I was playing Story Mode, I wasn't pressured to progress. I could do nearly everything I wanted/needed to do right from the very start, and be comfortable doing so. Even the quests from the NPCs weren't so important or difficult enough to worry me at all. It's also very easy to make money, so that wasn't even a problem either.

Pricing stuff:

In spite of really liking this game so early in, I'm unsure if I recommend it at full price. I got it on sale, and I felt it was far more towards the sale price instead for value. I will have to play more before I say much else on the subject.

Honest Overall Opinion:

Very good game, even though it gets a bit janky. The bugs don't completely ruin it and the cute and colorful plushie-like models really drive it home for me. It's light-hearted fun that was put together by a tiny team, and it's very obvious they love this game. I wish them a fantastic future ahead, and I am happy to be here for it.

Only play this if you got friends that already play that you can run around with or have enough real life cash and time, or if you have a potato for a computer.

Otherwise, just play Black Desert. These servers are way too empty to warrant too much attention to a newer audience.

My heart goes out to the tiny and loving community that is trying to keep this game alive. This was such a beautiful experience from what I enjoyed, but you guys are pretty absent and Nexon always does us all dirty.

At least the sound design, music design, combat system, and overall atmosphere of the game itself was well worth the time I put into it. I would have stayed longer if there were more than two players around in the cities.

I'm so sorry, Mabinogi. You don't deserve your ghost towns. You really don't.

This has gotta be the most complex "idle" game I have ever touched.

I was a huge fan of Clicker Heroes and a few other notable titles in the idle game genre, but unfortunately they pale very much in comparison to Realm Grinder. The biggest difference between this and all others is the huge factor of every single action you take in the game influences everything. Cast more spells--you get mana regeneration/spell oriented upgrades. Buy a lot of buildings--you get stuff based on the amount of buildings you have. Do something really interesting, like cast a spell named after a period of time in the day during the opposite time frame in real life--you unlock an upgrade directly related to the act.

And, instead of just two resources/upgrades you get for soft resets, you get FOUR resources to work with, one being a soft reset mechanic and then you get ANOTHER soft reset upgrade. All of these are easily obtainable without being spoonfed to you. Sounds a little contradictory, but if you play long enough, you will see what I mean.

The reason I put quotes around the word idle earlier was because of how the game is able to switch between active and inactive playstyles. You can literally pick one from the other. If you play all the factions to the "end" of their regular upgrades, you unlock passives you can use no matter who you choose later. The game infinitely rewards you in every single choice/action you will ever make in it. Feel like playing for an hour or so? You can do that. Gonna be gone for a few days and still want to reap some benefits? There's a faction for that.

The list goes on, and it is absolutely wonderful how much work was put into this. I am looking forward to more from this game.

(My only gripe is that there is NO SOUND and it freaked me out when I first started playing)

This game is positively fantastic.

Pros:

Exceedingly snappy and responsive controls.
Colorful graphics with just enough feeling to be taken seriously.
Multiple characters.
RPG elements (gear/exp levelups).
Extremely satisfying sound effects.
Addictive mini-games.
Competitive without being overbearing.
Very forgiving (ie; You were an inch or two from that rail, but the game lets you grind anyway).
The AI isn't entirely stupid...kind of.
Easy to get your adrenaline pumping.
There's a story to it all.
You can repeat almost all of the missions, and even beat your previous scores.
Truly seamless multiplayer (no load screens, only a ten second wait time to change to an online mode if you're unlucky).
Everything you do is client-side.
The developers are actually taking a huge interest in their community and feedback.
In multiplayer, anyone and everyone can participate in all content.
Amazing musical scores.
Truly made it as Jet Set Radio's spiritual successor.
There's a way to skip the tutorial...and how it is implemented is absolutely pure genius.
Smol game is smol (2 gigs).
Runs on lower end computers without looking like trash on higher end rigs.
Tutorial is simple but also interesting enough to keep attention.
Player character's existence is easily explained without seeming like utter bullcrap.
You are not forced to play by yourself or with others.

Cons:

Depending on the zone, you might get a little maddened by the constant loop of up to four tracks.
Though many mechanics are forgiving, the difficulty gets a bit much if you don't practice enough.
There's a few minor typos in NPC dialogue (not that big of a problem tbh but still listed here for now).
The AI sometimes decides to go jack off in a corner or completely vanish in missions (other times it works almost flawlessly and feels like a real player alongside you).
There are a few mechanics that are never talked about that I accidentally discovered using my tried and true method of randomly pressing buttons (unless this was addressed far later in the game...for whatever reason).
The Sewers
There is no party/find friend mechanic, so when you're playing with someone you want to find, you have to talk to each other in the chat (or in my case, Discord) in order to find each other unless you have a map in that zone.
Found a couple surfaces that didn't appear to be properly finished in a zone (you could stare into the void outside the level).
There is a way to Skyrim your way up flat walls without a hitch.
Default keyboard options are set to French (not quite a con I suppose, but it confused myself and my Australian friend right off the bat).
Time flies when you're having fun (it will make you late for work >.>).

All in all, the pros outweigh the cons. This is very much worth the money. Twenty dollars for this is nothing compared to the other titles that ask forty dollars so they can only do half of what Hover does. To be very honest, I dislike games like this, and I had the time of my life playing it. I even bought a few more copies for friends just so they could try it. You can really tell the developers put their heart and soul into this, and that's something very rare in this trying time of half-assed indie companies.

Buy it. Play it. And above all, have fun with it!
