You know, some games just have a great style.
The story is so-so (IMO), and technically, the game would be "meh" overall. Yet, the music is great, the set pieces for each stage are coming together so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, for a lack of a better word, stylish, that the game's simply hard not to love.
A good game for a good price, this one may give you some fond memories and some fun time. One of the few indie titles I've honestly enjoyed all the way through.
Too bad I cant spend my dosh to buy the soundtrack on Steam, but I guess an officially free download is acceptable.

Be warned. This is not a remake.

When it was in Pre-Order state, I've expected it to be an HD version of the good old Painkiller (the first). Naturally, I got excited. What it is exactly, is a compilation of SOME of the original's levels with an even worse, blury graphics. You could say that it's just a point of view, but it really was positioned as a remake. We were'nt told for sure, the only way to know was to count the amount of levels.This game's existance feels like a scam attempt.

It's a dissapointment, graphics got less appealing, the story is different, half of the original's levels is missing (some you could buy as DLC's, you know, to throw out some more dosh). This is the worst way I've spend money on Steam. And I buy stuff in TF2.

An awfull port of an awesome game. Waste of money, this version is barely playable. Avoid at all costs. Would still recommend to check out the original game though, if you havent already done so.
