Just bought this game today and beat it 100%! This game stands out from a lot of platformers. It's a lot of fun, clearing events give that good dopamine rush and you get cool items as rewards. It's a criminally under rated platformer and this game deserves a second chance!

As for the port job, It's not the greatest ever done but besides a few technical hiccups here and there, it does it's job at bringing Tomba to modern consoles and that's all that matters at this point (And by golly does it matter because have you checked the prices for an original copy?)

This game has been abandoned by Valve since Blue Moon. All you'll get from now on are community created cosmetics and maps.

This has become one of my favourite games of all time! I bought it on the Switch, played it and loved it. Bought it again on PC for 60fps (and maybe mods if anyone is willing to make some) and it's still great!

You have 7 chapters to go through and from different periods of time. You have Pogo from the Stone Ages, Shifu from Imperial China, Oboromaru from Feudal Japan, Sundown Kid from the Wild West, Masaru in the "present day", Akira from the near future and Cube from the distant future. All scenarios play out very differently from each other and makes each chapter feel fresh!

The music has been remade too with Yoko Shimomura returning to remake the music and it is fantastic to listen to. Even has a jukebox so you can listen to the music on it's own, unfortunately you cannot change the music for the overworld while doing any grinding which is a shame.

I really hope one day this game gets DLC in the similar form of Final Fantasy the after years because there are temporary party members who learn moves at really high levels that you'll never be able to use unless you grind for them and by that time, you're become over leveled.

But regardless this remake is fantastic and I highly recommend you try out the demo, especially the Twilight of Edo chapter!

Such a thrilling experience! High speed game play that also comes with free flowing combat ensures there will never be a dull moment! It also has a pretty interesting story with a plot twist at the end! Though the main story is a tad shorter than the previous instalment, there are branching levels that switch up the game play with some putting you inside a car, ones where you have to race against a timer, combat only levels where you are placed in one room and have to defeat waves of enemies to beat the level.

This game also has free DLC that add levels from Spark 2, though it doesn't include everything from that game so it doesn't make it redundant. It's such an enjoyable experience and I would recommend you give it a try!

The Single Player is great but GTA Online ruined this series and turned Rockstar into a garbage company. I'm still waiting on the Single Player DLC they promised years ago.

Pretty good game! It's simple but replayable! Story mode has you charge through the level to retrieve an item and then find the red ring to complete it all the while enemies will try and stop you. Multiplayer mode is sadly only online where you can join or host a session and the multiplayer maps are reused from the Story mode, albeit more open for better traversing the area. Lastly you have challenge mode which turns the game on it's head and has you complete certain tasks that don't always follow the basic First Person Shooter principals so they become unpredictable and keep you guessing what's coming next. The game is fast paced with an easy to learn control layout, The game has stealth mechanics which is introduced in one of the later story levels, the guns are quite powerful and reload in a flash so it might be quite surprising if you're used to more grounded shooters but overall the weapons manage to balance themselves out and they are quite fun to use.

I give this game my recommendation!

I like this game and the new endings they put in but I can't help but feel disappointed that the old endings don't have more to them. It would have been cool if the line ending could be continued to follow the original ending if you chose to follow the door leading to it or the self-destruct ending where you have a chance of stopping it and having the narrator curse you for foiling his plans or something. This is still a great game and of course I'd recommend it because the new content is really worth checking out!

TL;DR: This game is great, you should totally buy it!

TS;NEW (Too short; Not enough words): Wow! Vicarious Visions did a bang up job with how faithful this game is to the originals. I was incredibly jealous when this a PS4 exclusive but now it's been made available for the PC which is fantastic! This is my first time fully playing the games to completion and I've been so hooked that I have almost collected every achievement it has which is something I almost never do (Apart from the Walking Dead but the achievements come as you complete the episodes). I loved this game since it's release on PC.

60fps all around, beautifully remastered levels, important fixes for collecting the gems, fantastically animated cutscenes. Crash 1 is all about carefully planned jumps, Crash 2 improves on the formers formula by adding a slide jumping mechanic for extra distance jumps and Crash 3 goes above and beyond with loads of other gameplay styles like Scuba diving, Motorcycle racing and unlockable moves that I won't spoil for those new to series (Despite these being games from 20 years ago)

Few issues with the game though. The Double jump power up in Crash 3 doesn't always seem to work. Whenever I am in the heat of the moment it's a gamble whether I do a double jump. Sometimes it works fine then sometimes it doesn't work and I fall down, wondering why it didn't activate when I clearly pressed the jump button. I also occasionally activate the body slam when trying to slide jump but that's probably to do with me inputting the slide-jump too fast. Also, just like other people have mentioned, the hitboxes can be very finicky at times.

Some things I would like to see if they make more updates is the ability to use the Crash 3 abilities in the previous two games. It would have been a nice bonus to have for 100% completion of those two games. The endings are nice to have but for 100% completion, I would have expected something a little more.

Overall I give this game my recommendation! I love the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and if you like platformers like Mario and Sonic as I do, you will enjoy this game a lot.

Alright so I've played through the entire game and collected all 40 time pieces because I like to do that with collect-a-thons and this is what I got to say.

Here are the good things.

The Controls for the most part are clean and responsive such as jumping, diving and attacking. I'll get into the specific moves that don't work in the negative section of this review. Jumping and diving is a lot of fun and I love the jump cancel maneuver as it gives you the precise control you need to stop on a platform.

The levels are really well done and they clash elements together into one whole world like in the 3rd level you have a forest to go through. When you jump across a gap in a bridge, you come across a wintery biome with icicles and a glacier to go through. Then there is an area with trees for houses and an area where you have to cross over a swamp, making them feel like multiple levels rather than just one level which helps forget the fact that this game only has four worlds and one small, final world. The 4th world introduces free roam into the mix but it basically just allows you to get a time piece in any order and not leave the world instead of being tied to one scenario each time piece.

The Scenarios themselves are fun to play. The best one is the second world where you must help either the owls or the penguins to win the award on their movies. You help the owls by starring in a western train ride where you must become a detective and solve a crime of a murder, then the second act has you try stopping a bomb from destroying the train. Then you have the Penguins where you must gain popularity for the movie by walking to the penguins and then the second act has you leading a parade of... owls. Well the Penguin acts aren't very fun but the Train Western is where it's at and it's a blast trying to swing away from the detaching train and solve a crime by avoiding the crow's site who have the train on lock down.

There are time rifts you can jump into when you find them that remind me of Super Mario Sunshine's obstacle courses. They implement elements from the part of the level you choose like the bird parade and the green/purple platforms to use your mask on. These platform levels are fun for the most part when it's not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you out with those ducktale-hair crows that push you back off the platforms. There are also purple time-rifts that use the level aesthetics you enter them from, and are based on the memories of the enemies that have been hit by the Time pieces. There are also page collectables that reveal the origins of how those worlds happened before Hat Kid's influence.

This game has Steam workshop support via opting for Beta and will get a full release soon which will help people come back to this game and people have already started making levels like Whomp's Fortress, the first level of Yo! Noid 2 and brought back Beta Hero from... the beta of Hat in Time. The game will also get 2 DLC levels in the future which will further sweeten the deal.

Time to get to the bad parts

Wall running is very annoying to deal, especially when you are trying to get off a wall of a narrow path. You cannot just move away from the wall to get off from it and if you try to jump and move away from the wall parrelell to you, it won't work and Hat Kid will wall run again, making you go further upwards when all you want to do is get off the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WALL! Then there are time where you accidentally wallrun on a wall that doesn't lead you anywhere like in the warehouse part of the 2nd World. You can press the R trigger to stop wall running but even this doesn't help when you are against narrow walls. The Wall running isn't even all that useful in general and is a confusing addition to hat kid's moveset when you can already Double jump. The game could have not had wall running at all and it would have made the game control better.

The homing attack is incredibly unreliable. Even if you are at the right height, sometimes the homing attack just won't work. You'll be pressing that X button and Hat kid just drops to the ground and does nothing which is very noticeable in the first boss fight of the game where you are ENCOURAGED to do a homing attack! I feel that the developers didn't want people to be overly reliant on the attack so they made it cumbersome on purpose but again the game encourages you to do a homing attack to defeat the Mafia enemies since it does a lot more damage than just jumping on top of their heads so it feels more like a punishment to be told how to defeat the enemies.

The boss fights are a mixed bag. The 1st Boss is well designed and fairly challenging which is good. Then you get to the 2nd boss and everything just falls flat on it's face. The problem with this boss is a mix of cheap attacks and a dialogue scene in the middle of the fight that happens everytme you die from the boss. The 3rd boss ends abruptly after it just throws ♥♥♥♥ at you from all sides. The Final boss is okay but there was one time where I was holding an explosive fruit at 1 health and died when a cutscene was playing which was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The Hats feel more like a nuisance rather than an addition to your moveset because they don't really have any other effects than what they're intended to do. The Sprint hat is the one you will most likely use for the whole game because it makes you run faster and allows you to make longer jumps while allowing you to dive. The Brewing hat allows you to blow up boxes. It can also kill enemies but it's attack start up time is too slow to be an effective weapon that you'll already have killed them with your umbrella and once you've collected all the badges, it is essentially useless because the Pons will be useless. The Ice Cap is only useful for taking it's spring pads and nothing else. The Mask allows you to reveal green platforms and remove purple platforms which is only required for a few sections in the 3rd World and the Twilight gate in the 4th world. The Time Stop hat is only required for one time piece in Mafia town but is a big help for the Final Boss.
It feels like the abilities could have been better implemented by being an addition to Hat Kid's movesets rather than being split up into different hats. This is something that Yooka Laylee does better.

Badges are also in this game where you can use them to make life a little easier for yourself. You only get to equip one at a time at first but you can eventually buy pins to get a maximum of three badges at a time. However the problem is that one of these badges which is the hookshot badge is required to be used for almost every level. This is confusing because I got the idea that Badges were merely handy perks so to have a Badge that is required to get through the game nullifies the slot upgrade. I don't understand why this function couldn't be added to the umbrella from the start as there really isn't any excuse for this.

Overall

The game is good but just wait for a price drop for the moment or wait for the DLC levels to come out or when the game's Steam Workshop becomes more bustling with stages. As whether this or Yooka Laylee is better, I'd say Yooka Laylee has better controls and better use of abilities than a Hat in Time while A Hat in Time has a better replayability factor and better level design than Yooka Laylee. Since I like platforming collect-a-thons, I give this game my recommendation.
