In short: Too many small and medium issues in design choices to overlook. Unit pathing/AI is atrocious and Balance is a mixed bag that makes a few units godly and most useless (looking at you ion frigate). Story is meh with lore discrepancies, many cutscenes (not exactly made by blizzard). Wont be refunding, i got some joy out of it and i hope more work will be done to fix issues.

In long: Sadly this game has left me disappointed. As a long time fan of Homeworld it fails to capture the essence but otherwise has tried to be faithful and i can respect that, even though it has been 21 years and games have changed a lot since then and i understand some modernisation would occur i feel it is an ok entry into the franchise but falls short.
For me the main problems are less to do with aesthetic and more to do with mechanical choices in development. Camera control is massively improved but unit control and pathing is worse, especially with the enforced squad system that will automatically squad ALL SHIPS regardless of class everytime you select them, its stupid to have say a delta formation of fighters with a battlecruisers in it and they try to maintain that formation when fighting. Yes a battlecruiser trying to fly and fight like a fighter, and fighting in terrain is awful especially with the mothership, which also when set to aggressive as recommended for its defense guns will start to think its a combat ship and move to engage targets nearby despite its guns ricocheting off of anything that isnt a fighter. The game requires far too much micromanagement of fights and ships either die far too quickly (strikecraft) or linger far too much. Ion weapons are uselessly weak, torpedoes are a mixed bag. In essence balance is very much off and i feel cheated that the Higarans only have one type of corvette but the bad guys have about 5 i think.
The story though is ok but i didnt like the cutscenes, too many and they felt off to me, cant describe it. But there were some lore issues in said story and plot holes but mission design was good and entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the "tower defence" mission where minelayer frigates were actually useful for something and never again, at which point i noticed there was no way to recycle/decommission ships.

Great game firstly, love it and i do highly recommend it. However given the new changes requiring players to set up an account with another company that is entirely mandatory i must voice that i do not consent to this. Given that i had no knowledge of this requirement coming into force at a later date after launch i have every right to be angry and object.

Edit: The announced correction of the issue many of us objected to has meant i can now recommend this game again. Thank you for listening.

I wont lie i do enjoy the basic game play here but there is the problem, that's all there is. I can describe this game as "All flash, no features"

One short game mode that offers no real challenge as that directly comes from racing the opposing team and their interference is limited for the most part. A story based on finding packets of information in the simple grind survival. But what really hurts is the exosuits, 80% of their customisation (maybe more) is all cosmetic, they are all unlocked which is nice but each of them is what they are and there's no alternate weapons for unlocking for example.

The game does feel finished but theres very little there to enjoy and i find no challenge. I cannot justify the price tag which is extreme for what little has been presented, i feel like i have been charged full price for only a demo.

Though i do recommend i do so barely from my just over 5 hours of play where i skipped most of the dialogue in the silly quests and here is why.

Cons:
- The MMO aspects are boring to the point where when picking up quests i stopped reading and just accepted anything then did them and handed in.
- The skill tree levels itself up with the only customisable options for the player being in the mastery tree. Meaning as you level, basic skills and combos are unlocked for you to use, the player has no choice in build in this part until mastery becomes unlocked to which what you have to choose from are modifiers for basic skills and some other boosts.
- The RTS aspects "i only put this here because i am a big RTS fan" the controls feel unnatural being theres no click and drag selection box so you have to press the select all key or shift click the specific units.
- Getting to level 10 and the city of Accolade before things start to open for you. Its a lot of spamming the F key in conversations and doing silly stereotypical MMO quests of "go here kill X number of these" and "Go get me some flowers and put them on this grave for me" Viva La Dirt League wouldnt find any new material here thats for sure.
- Micro transactions, they exist but fortunately just cosmetics and boosters except maybe the mounts as i expect they are the fastest, being faster than the best unlockable ones.
- When playing as a female hero when you get to a mission complete sequence where you get your score they turn from a badass killing machine into a cutie, bubbly school girl with all the hand heart emotes and stuff and it grates on me a bit.

Pros:
- When you siege or defend a castle it does have a good amount of fun in it whether in RTS or Action mode.
- When in RTS mode you dont have to worry about your hero being taken out while microing your units as they just go on defensive, however they do not attack at all but having your hero take aggro has its uses. Note i havent tested this against a boss type enemy.
- Combat can at times be a tad clunky but it can also flow with the combos and look cool as you mow down your foes.
- The heroes are varied but i havent tried them all yet but each has a slightly different feel but are essentially all melee combatants. The ranger switches between melee and ranged but being ranged makes you really slow.

Stellaris is an indepth 4x game in which the gameplay can evolve over the course of the game with events that may or may not help you, gamplay will eventually lead to a crisis occuring effecting everyone that may or may not be your fault.
Theres a deep diplomacy that is similar to that of Europa Universalis by the same company but less compicated.
Customisation of planets and ships and even making your own race be it good or evil, or somewhere inbetween.
Highly replayable just hope you dont run into one of your own super evil races, the computer can do that.
Mod community is good with many mods out there when you want to add some more spice to a great game.
Warning...May consume a day or 2 before you realise and are hungry.
