Sekiro is one of those games where you'll be getting violently thrashed by a boss for hours, you're angry and ready to hurt something, and then all of a sudden, something clicks and you just steamroll the boss like it was nothing, and its the greatest feeling in the world. Dopamine firing on all cylinders and tears rolling down your eyes - an eruption of triumph. Truly a love/hate relationship in video game form. I don't get it but if you wanna game or feel something, this is it. I highly recommend it.

You won't be able to stop thinking about it many years down the road.

Also it's the hardest game you'll ever probably play, up there with Ninja Gaiden on Master Ninja, Halo Legendary, and Super Meat Boy.

This is just a Battlefield variant of COD Modern Warfare 2019. It's massively overrated, missing a ton of Battlefield soul, and when the honeymoon phase wears off, it'll be hated more than Battlefield 2042.

  • HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
  • Recommended.
  • On the fence.
  • Play it when hell freezes over.
  • Avoid like the plague.

OPTIMIZATION: 1440p/120FPS on 7900XT
TIME TO BEAT: N/A
SIMILAR GAMES: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, Delta Force
SIMILAR MOVIES: Black Hawk Down, Warfare

I do like the game but there's a ton of things blatantly wrong with it. First the good. The gunplay is fun and addicting. Teamwork is back. The grit is there in all its glory and we get two new WAR TAPES (sound mixing). No more heroes from Battlefield 2042. No more goofy super vibrant color palette. No more dubstep soundtrack. No more ridiculous Beavis skins. DICE has listened to a ton of complaints and followed through. Vehicles have weight behind them and handle significantly better now. Parachtues glide like parachutes now. The explosions and destruction is phenomenal. The animations have also improved and you can go from prone to supine. Some of the new gadgets are cool like the combat ladder. Also I love the ability to drag teammates out of the battle. Now the bad. DICE insists on stealing the Call of Duty fanbase and they will not stop no matter what although they'll take a different approach this time. The COD 2019 reboot approach.

My main complaint is this - the maps are nice but they are too small and compact. Coupled with a ton of cover and dead space buildings - the maps are in essence, killboxes. They have lanes to funnel traffic into chokepoints which always results in nonstop battles around every corner. You will be shot in the back - a lot. You will be shot from the side - a lot. You will respawn and immediately get shot - a lot. This is fine on a map or two. We all love Metro, Underground, Redacted but we also need BIG MAPS. We have NO BIG MAPS. Not Firestorm. It's hardly a medium sized map. Not a faithful 1:1 replica but condensed. Not Mirak Valley which revolves around construction buildings in the center that can't be destroyed and that vehicles can't get to. Not Sobek City which is in essence desert Mirak Valley and plays in the same manner. They are all tiny to medium sized maps with little room to flank and maximum close quarters combat with no flow. The largest BF map in existence is Halvoy (BFV Battle Royale) at 5.0 km2 while the largest BF2042 map is Breakaway at 3.25km2. The largest BF6 map is Mirak Valley at 0.6km2 which is exactly the size of Hamada (BFV) and Caspian Border (BF3). This is 40th largest (I counted that too) map in all the BF maps ever made. Objectively speaking, the maps are tiny.

Additionally, there's no VARIETY. Where is the variety? 2042 had variety with different biomes - grasslands, deserts, islands, tundras, and urban across different seasons - summer, autumn, winter and times - day and night. In BF6 it's all urban or desert setting set during the summer day. In addition, there's exactly limited vehicles in Breakthrough. Usually one tank per map. One IFV. That's it. And they appear on maps with tight corridors (Iberian) that are littered with mines so no one uses them anymore. No air vehicles on ANY of the Breakthrough maps. Breakthrough across most maps is just infantry warfare with 32 players. This is a downgrade from predecessors like BF1, V, and even 2042 that had up to 128 players on Breakthrough during special events. The map design is small and uninspired to the point where people don't even try to coordinate in chat anymore. For shame!!

Some other complaints:
  • No more 128 players (or even 64 player Breakthrough)
  • Atrocious "variable hit registration" that throttles from 60Hz to 30Hz during peak (2042 was 45Hz)
  • Destruction has improved since 2042 but it's still mostly scripted. Nowhere near The Finals level of quality. You shoot an inaccessible building and it turns into inaccessible rubble. Which is cool but we use to be able to make holes in the wall and our own paths like in Bad Company 2.
  • Absolutely rubbish temporal smearing whether its on TAA, FSR4 or DLSS4 and feels like I'm playing on 720p despite my resolution being set to 1440p native with no dynamic scaling.
  • The grit is nice but it makes it extremely hard to spot players especially with the temporal smearing, volumetric fog and washed out color palette. Would it be possible to add a color palette selection at least from BF1/5 or to dial down the washed out colors somewhat?
  • You need to log into their servers to play campaign or wait in a queue to play in a private match against bots on your own computer (25 year old Battlefield / Counterstrike / Quake offline bot support in the 1990s). And yes there is still a queue for waiting to log into their overloaded servers.
  • No dynamic weather like Paracel Storm or in 2042. No day/night cycle. No overcast. Static weather.
  • No naval vehicles - no dingy, no gun boats, no aircraft carriers
  • No Levolution (Siege of Shanghai)
  • No verticality maps like Exposure (2042) or Damavand Peak (BF3)
  • 8 maps on launch but technically 7 because Saint's Quarter doesn't have Conquest and Iberian no Breakthrough
  • The UI is an unorganized Netflix tiled mess and more complicated than mapping Elliot Waves on my securities trader Fidelity ATP
  • I miss that Crysis styled weapon attachments menu from 2042 that let you swap scopes, magazines and underbarrels on the fly. Now you need to redeploy and access the main menu to do that.
  • Weapon grind feels like an MMO unemployment grind
  • Unbalanced classes. Everyone just plays support. Assault has limited ammo and Recon has lost its spawn beacon to Assault. Engineer is usually anti vehicle / fortification but this game barely has any vehicles and no fortifications.
  • Commander mode from BF4 would have been nice to encourage more teamplay.
  • Soulless factions. Instead of countries like USA, Russia, China, Germany, Japan we have soulless factions like NATO and Pax Armata who share weapons and vehicles.
  • Missing Russian vehicles like T90, BMP, Mil Mi-24, etc. Would have been nice to get some Chinese vehicles too like J20 or Type 99 tank. Instead it's just NATO vehicles that all feel the same with a randomly appearing Su57. And we somehow lost real weapon names due to copywrite??
  • No military banter. No trash talk. No one speaks in foreign languages anymore, just a phrase or two for maximum accessibility to FOMOers (not vets) who don't care about lore or immersion.
  • No iconic Little Bird
  • No ribbons
  • Leaderboards don't mention revives or resupplies anymore
  • SBMM / EOMM from hell. The matches are predetermined due to your hidden ranking. You will gravitate to a 50% win/lose ratio. You will get matched with newbs against tryhard sweats after winning 2 or 3 matches in a row. The matches will be blowouts from time to time for maximum player retention. BF4 use to have tight matches most of the time. It's flip flopped here designed to keep you coming back. It is NOT designed for fair matches.

Finally, everyone seems to be complaining about the gender / race of their operators on the discussion forums. Since players want to play characters that relate to them, why not make a custom character creator? Or do what BFV did? This problem was easily addressed and fixed back in earlier Battlefield games. Yet for whatever reason, the problem has resurfaced. Why DICE? Why force players to play as someone they don't want to play?

Once again I am optimistic about this game with a good core and potential for reworks but I cannot recommend it at this time in its current state. Not for $70. Hopefully DICE turns it around. If you really want a modern and faithful Battlefield 4, go play Delta Force instead. Or just go back to 4/5/1/2042..

At best this is a lazy remaster of the original Half-Life 2 with Pathtracing. At worse it's misleading marketing in disguise to sell 5000 series GPUs. I will come right out and say it - I have a 7900XT and this remaster was made only for Nvidia owners. And by Nvidia owners, I mean only for 5000 series GPUs. And by 5000 series GPUs, I mean only 5090s. And on a 5090, it won't even hit 30FPS on 4K native. 4 year old Cyberpunk 2077 which looks significantly better and is open world will hit 4K/60 native on a 5090 with ease. Hell, my very own 7900XT will run Pathtracing in Cyberpunk 2077 over 40FPS. There is no reason why this game gets sub 20FPS at 75% TAAU. No options for frame gen outside of DLSS.

This brings me to my next point, if Pathtracing is so amazing, why do you need to "enhance" the original textures? Because Nvidia knows nobody wants to play the original game at sub 30 FPS with ghosting, artifacts, and vaseline smearing just for slightly better lighting. So they enhance the original assets.... which is cool and looks good. But do you wanna know who else did that? Source 2 engine which runs Half Life Alyx which looks amazing even for 2025. And the best part is you can run it at 1440p/120FPS with no upscalers and no frame gen. And it looks significantly better.

Raytracing and pathtracing is cool but it's not viable with modern day tech. So I cannot recommend this remaster. The performance and optimization is abysmal and if you support this, you'll get even more shoddy optimization and remasters than you've ever seen before.

Great story, awesome characters and overall fun game but one of the worst implementations of TAA coupled with insane bloat and filler.

  • HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

OPTIMIZATION: 4K60 on 7900XT
TIME TO BEAT: ~50-100 hours
SIMILAR GAMES: Final Fantasy VII REMAKE, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Mario Party
SIMILAR MOVIES: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Final Fantasy: Advent Children

The game improves upon FF7 REMAKE in every single way possible - the gameplay and combat is now more engaging with teammate synergy abilities, they added a new Gwent clone card game called Queen's Blood which is highly addicting, and the score somehow got even more memorable worthy enough to be labeled art. The story is a direct continuation of the predecessor - stop an evil megacorp and defeat the baddie Sephiroth. The game is as quirky as the usual games from Japan and while it's not a beloved "jRPG" like the original, it's still very much fun and enjoyable.

That being said, I do have some complaints. The game is essentially blurry vaseline myopia simulator and it looks atrocious out in the grasslands with any kind of foliage that smears unto itself. No support for FSR and no XeSS. Post processing (film grain, motion blur, chromatic aberration) is turned on by default while being dialed up to max and can only be turned off with engine.ini edits. So there's 3 different types of blur going on. Cutscenes are prerendered so they look great in motion but out in the open world and in areas with rocks but with foliage, it's a completely different story.

TAA can also be turned off but everything is temporally baked so turning it off causes artifacts and weird dithering and interpolation. The game is also running on UE4 (not 5) so everything is max effort focused on lighting at the expense of everything else including visual clarity and since it's UE4, it's hard to find a fix for that (including UUU4). Hopefully modders will find a solution because I want more types of this game but I also want VISUAL CLARITY so I can actually see the assets the team has worked hard on. My only solution for maximum clarity is to run it at 4k/60 which my 7900XT can do but VRAM is maxed out at 20GB and RAM is maxed out at 32GB so it stutters here and there possibly due to a memory leak around launch. Non RTX owners beware and evidently it's also blurry with DLSS so a lot of RTX owners are doing the DLDSR+DLSS circus method so essentially supersampling for a sharper picture. After the first grasslands area, the game does become more clear. Not sure if it was my custom configs or shaders being compiled or my vision is just going away.

My last major complaint is with the minigames and bloat. There's dozens upon dozens of them coupled in the Ubisoft generic open world formula. It's like Square wanted to be a jack of all trade despite being a master of none. Or if you ordered the filet mignon and gave served 5 of them. You never want to overfeed your audience to the point where it seems REBIRTH competing is not only competing with action RPGs but it also Mario Party, Star Fox, Metal Gear Solid stealth, Far Cry, and Kojima's lengthy cutscenes. You don't need to do that. What they have here is a very solid CORE gameplay clocking it at around 40 hours but accompanied by 60 hours of bloat such as excessive cutscenes and minigames. For instance, Chadley calls you everytime you do something, there's sloooow animations for getting into and out of vehicles, and pretty much every side character that you only meet once has a length side story we don't really care about. Ideally you want to make a game people should WANT to play 100% of, not 40 or 50% of.

Overall phenomenal game and really takes me back to the golden age feels of jRPGs on the Super Nintendo (even though it's an action RPG) but not without complaints. Please Square, just take this review as constructive criticism and try to make the sequel have be more toned in terms of content and shaper looking in terms of visual clarity. At any rate, after playing 40+ hours, it's hard not to leave a positive review. There's just so much soul in this game and it's in every bit as good as the original FF7 REMAKE.

I never played the original and this remake made me regret that. This is a timeless formula 30 years after it originally came out. Plays very similar to Bioshock, Prey and akin to Dead Space and SOMA. One of the best atmospheres I've ever experienced and while I'm not too fond of the art style or the UE5 TAA / post processing effects, I can't stop recommending it. We need a remake of the sequel now!!

It's a decent Battlefield 2042 clone but with hardcore SBMM. First game has paired up with hackers against newbs. Second game has you paired up with newbs against hackers. And around we go. For those unaware, SBMM or Skill Based MatchMaking is an anti-fun mode to maximize player retention and why so many players are leaving games like COD, DBD, and others. How did games work BEFORE SBMM? Simple -> team balancing. Or you could just leave the server and find a new one. We use to have server admins who would push for fair rules too. For instance, newbs in the newb server. Mess around in the mess around server. Sweat in the sweat server. Those servers have now been merged into one server experience known as SBMM and everyone is more miserable for it. Every single game is ranked and your ELO score dedicates the fun you will receive in that game forever. As a result, I do not recommend this game. Go play one of the Battlefields instead.

I'm not sure why so many people think that this game is like They Are Billions. They Are Billions (TAB) is base building and tower defense. Age of Darkness is NOT like They Are Billions. It's not even close to it. Age of Darkness is more like Warcraft 3 or Age of Empires with SOME basic base building - you have walls, gates, farms, mines, military, upgrades - and you build on SOME levels with occasional timers to achieve the objective. Therefore you can't really play at your own pace. MOST levels are point and click adventures with your hero units. You will be going on more point and click adventures exploring a fog of war map than you would be building your base or defending it. Both the trailer and the game description also emphasize base building but it's minimal. At its core, it's very heavy micro focused on your hero and army. I played the first 10 missions in the campaign and spent more time managing my units and searching the map for supplies, survivors, and objectives. There are difficulty spikes and there are ridiculous enemies that have huge AOE attacks that can destroy your army or hero and lead to immediate mission failures in the blink of an eye so you will be doing a ton of clicking to order units to attack and retreat to avoid their AOE attacks. Also enemies respawn so you can't clear out sections of the map and throw up fortifications and expand your base beyond the area the game wants you to be in. Why is this a problem? Because strategy games should be about.... strategy and options. Most of the levels I've played so far are linear point with occasional branching paths. Content and tactical options are lacking.

In addition, this game is very heavily focused on its story which I stopped caring about 3 or 4 missions in simply because it was uninteresting and dragged on and on. A lot of dialogue, a ton of cutscenes, a bunch of characters coming and going, more cutscenes suffering from pacing issues, a great evil lurking about that kinda gets pushed off to the side until later because game randomness. I know the game is early access but all in all, it's incredibly mid and has been done before and in better quality. Mid to the point of not being interesting and I'd rather go back and replay Age of Empires which pretty much did everything better. And I can't forget about the AI -> they will absolutely attack the most direct military fortifications in its path first then when they breach the walls, continue attacking ALL the walls until all military structures are destroyed before pouring into the town. Thus really isn't that much threat or strategy to the game. I know I mentioned TAB and base building a lot but the problem here is that the game wants you to play a super specific manner. Also the auto save needs fixing. It's very infrequent (every 15-20 minutes). Crashes happen. A lot of progress is lost. For those reasons, I cannot recommend it.

If you ever wanted to play a Metroid Prime game rebooted by FromSoft, this would be it. Note: Beaten on the PS5 ~5 times already. Bought on Steam again to support the developer and run on superior hardware.

  • HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
  • Recommended.
  • On the fence.
  • Play it when hell freezes over.
  • Avoid like the plague.

OPTIMIZATION: ~125 FPS on 1440p max settings FSR with RTX on a 7900XT (about 80-100FPS native)
TIME TO BEAT: 10-20 hours
SIMILAR GAMES: Control, Remnant 2, Prey: Mooncrash
SIMILAR MOVIES: Prometheus, Edge of Tomorrow, Annihilation

This is one of the most unique and underrated gems you'll ever play. It's a 3D inspired Metroidvania with roguelite and bullethell. This means you will have different, alternating levels and permadeath each run. None of your progress is saved after death. The enemies will also shuffle and get randomized as well as the guns and perks. The game is more on the difficult side - Dark Souls style with only the default difficulty setting. Death can come from anywhere. Bosses are unforgiving but not outright impossible. Originally when I played the game, I rage-quit two or three times after each death and couldn't quite get it. But with each death came experience and perseverance. Eventually it started clicking and I fell in love with the game just as soon as I started getting good.

The score and visuals are also phenomenal. This is where the bullethell comes into play or the amount of projectiles on screen (there's a lot, so much so that you could probably use it as a 3DMark benchmark). During combat you'll be forced to dodge and platform to stay alive while battling your enemies. Boss design is perfection as well. Gameplay is super quick, fast and precise. No hand holding. No timeouts. No long or tedious cutscenes either. It's got a sci-fi story about being stranded on a mysterious alien world with plenty of lore, secrets, and eeriness. Seriously the atmosphere is superb, filled with soul, depth, and plenty of feels. There's a twist at the end and though I didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of the game, it's all about the journey, not the destination. Also what's neat is that you can play with a friend from beginning to end (Co-Op). And if you are still having trouble beating the game just to experience it all, savescum your way to victory with cloud saves.

Only downside is, optimization could be better. It's not Cyberpunk 2077 at launch bad but it's not Doom Eternal on a toaster optimized either. At any rate, I still HIGHLY recommend the game.

Final Score: 9/10

Top down Cyberpunk 2077 but with more combat à la John Wick.

First hour is slow but it picks up a lot by the second hour and by the third hour, you should be hooked. Mostly run n gun gameplay, minimal cutscenes, lots of RPG elements including body augmentations, weapon upgrades, and neat bosses. Few crashes and bugs here and there. World is absolutely beautiful and comes with ray-tracing. Can be played COOP with a friend. Solid 9/10. Takes around ~15 hours to beat, more if you do sidequests and pick up the DLC. There won't be another game quite like this for a while.

Game is very solid but with some cavets.

Pros:
>camera and controls have been improved so you can now navigate "freely" through 3D space
>graphics are jaw dropping - beautiful backgrounds and super detailed ships
>the score and sound department is excellent
>there is now a pause button where you can stop combat to sort your ship groups and assess tactics
>AI has been improved and will take cover in passive/neutral mode and there is actually a meaning behind formations and they tell you what it is in the description
>game has better organization and less clutter (resource collectors can do objectives now while support frigates support and heal)

Cons:
>the story is somewhat forgettable though I didn't care much for the first two games story either
>no subsystems modules (e.g. hyperspace inhibitors, fire control tower)
>no button to retire units
>optimization is questionable. in-game benchmark shows an average of 61fps from 1080p to 4k with and without raytracing and uncapped framerate (high of 130fps and low of 3fps) however in the campaign it ran pretty well (over triple digits until i maxed out the fleet then it chugged back down to the 60s)
>denuvo

Other things
>8 hour campaign (excluding wargames and multiplayer) vs 9 hours for the first two remasters
>a lot of throwbacks to the original 2 games like the asteroid belt missions, being introduced to pirates, and battling someone like the keeper
>there is also multiplayer and coop

Solid 8/10. Don't listen to the haters. If you enjoyed the first two Homeworld games, you will like this one.
