Game is fun. I've played the original Vindictus for many years now. This new one is very familiar. The story, NPCs, enemies, music, sounds, map, playable chars, and their combos are all pretty similar to the original.

The combat system got a lot of changes, but also kept a lot of fundamentals. Overall, combat flow is a lot slower, and there doesn't seem to be many different ways to very your play, combo-wise. I know no one really remembers, but this combat speed is at the pace of original Vindictus with like somewhere around +6 weapon enhancement speed. So like base speed stats.

Ferghus is not here... Thank the Pontif. I very much like the way the world and chars look. The outfits, and dye system are very much Vindictus.

I personally enjoy the combat very much right now, but I worry about it getting stale. The possible options and routes seem too limited to get a lot of varied game play, or even allow for the crazy kinds of boss fights that current day Vindictus has.

I can only wonder what plans they have for Item stats, and the skill tree. Right now, they seem like kind of place holders.

The versatility of the defensive mechanics is quite good imo. Having more universal defensive options is a lot better than the wildly different, char specific options of the old game. They have a WIDE invuln window, and can be canceled into each other. They can also be canceled out of in various ways with attacks, that shorten the number of Ls needed to get into your LLRR and LLLRR combos. For example, dodge can go into R>LRR to get the equivalent of LLRR. Attacking out of TAB can do the same thing, as can Block > LRR.

This combat system seems like a true return to the early days of the original Vindictus, that focused a lot more on timing with your defense, and spacing to the enemy to avoid taking damage while getting in yours. As opposed to modern day Vindictus which seems a lot more about getting your stats to the right place so you can face roll your attacks, that can be cancelled at any time into a pretty OP defensive, oh ♥♥♥♥, panic response when you mess up.

As for the multiplayer boss fights, in solo mode, I wish they had a stagger bar, like the story bosses do. I don't see why they don't. For the party mode, I wish there were blue block mechanics that maybe opened up damage windows for the team, 'BROTHERS!' style. I also like that the White Tyrant phase 2 ground pound has to be jumped, but I wish the jump cleared it while going upward in the jump, and not just from the apex down.

I think that's all I have at the moment. Final thoughts are that it looks pretty good right now. Whats here is a lot more polished than I was expecting. The old Vindictus had, and still has, all kinds of bugs and issues with this same content, but here it all feels good. Can't wait to see how it evolves to release and beyond.

Surprisingly fun. I play a lot of Melty, and have for 15 years now. I didnt think Id like this game, Melty movement and pressure options spoiled me. All the chars feel good enough that they can play neutral, get in, do pressure, and take wins. There doesnt seem to be a lot of mix up oki, but there certainly is mix ups in pressure, especially for toki... I mean aki. :)

If you want a fighting game:
-That you can play while your friends are over at your house
-That is easy to pick up, but also has depth and a high ceiling for mastery
-That has interesting mechanics and play styles that you won’t find in other fighters
Then this game is for you. It's a good fighting game in and of itself.

The problems is the netplay:

I decided to edit this due to a potential update for the netplay at some point in the future.
I had down voted this because the netplay was basically unplayable.
Rollback integration into the netcode seems like it might be a thing when and if an update happens.
So the netplay might become very good. I'll wait and see before i change this to an up vote reveiw.

In the mean time, there are patches being released, and improvements to the delay based netcode already in the game are also in the pipe line.
