This was very much an impulse buy for me. I never heard of this up until I just randomly came across it while browsing the internet. The premise sold me almost immediately. A classic-styled FPS run on Quake 1's Tech? Sign me right up. Immediately not even 5 minutes into this I had the absolutely biggest smile on my face. This game is nothing short of amazing.


One of my favorite concepts this game runs with are the Soul Tethers, there's no regular save button in this game. You can't hit up your menu and save. Instead, the game offers these Soul Tethers as ways to save your game, but you have a limited amount. I dig the hell out of that, my only complaint is that by the time I was finished with the first area, I had so many Tethers just sitting in my inventory. I don't know if there will be less on the Hard Difficulty (I played on Normal).

However, speaking of Artifacts, I found myself having almost no need of the other artifacts I picked up. The Life Siphon Artifact I didn't need because there are an absolutely insane amount of health drops. Small vials giving you 10 Health and Large vials giving you 30, and the 5 per kill from the Artifact felt like it was not a good trade off, I was better off backtracking for health I left behind. As for the Cruel Aegis, I simply just never found a reason to use it.

These small gripes aside, I had an absolute blast playing this, the gameplay was fast paced and I felt a real rush when I found myself constantly swarmed by dudes, especially the Executioners who just hit like trucks, or the giant Stricken who at first seem simple to dodge, but as they get closer to death they fire multiple bombs in different patters every time, making dodging a sort of sweet science. I found use out of every weapon, even if the Blade was mostly just for jumping across ledges and platforms. The Shotgun was the star of the show, an absolutely powerful weapon, The Pistol had perfect range for sniping weaker enemies and I found a lot of use out of the Triple Barrel secondary fire. The Fang Spitter was absolutely necessary in dealing with tougher enemies especially from a range. And the Retcher was great in dealing with Executioners.


For two levels, the price may look like a bit much. But these levels are so massive and filled to the brim with enemies they feel like one giant Doom or Quake episode mashed into one level. I absolutely do not regret buying this, and I cannot wait for the next level to be released.
