Let me start by saying that this will be quite a long review, as I'm going to write everything I think so far about the game. I currently have 72 hours and will be putting many more

First, let's talk about early game leveling:
This is a painful grind that consists of "go here, do this, go there, do that" type questing with very little variety. leveling in this game kind of sucks, but it does a decent job at getting you familiar with the combat. This goes on until about level 30, where you get your first taste at what type of things are actually possible with the lost ark dungeons. I'm talking about Morai ruins here. The next major moment is in luterra castle (I won't spoil it here, but this is the point where you'll know if you want to continue the game or not. This is "The hook".

During the leveling process, you'll also get your first ship. This is a major part of the game, and IS NOT just filler to bring you continent to continent. Sailing to small islands and adventuring across the map is one of the largest parts of this game (endgame included).

Once you finish up the story and leveling, endgame starts. While the game has largely been braindead questing for a while, the game changes here. You can go do whatever you feel like doing. Vertical progession, visiting islands, leveling your stronghold, building relationships with NPCs, Joining guilds, doing raids, whatever you want to do within the limits of the game, you can do. The best part is: ALL OF THIS IS RELEVANT PROGRESSION, no matter what you choose to do. At some point you're going to come back to do all of this, whether you're just starting endgame, or tier 3 endgame with 700 hours into the game.

PvE Content:
Endgame PvE is generally divided into three main ways to gain materials to upgrade your gear. All of the things i am about to talk about are accessible the moment you finish the main storyline up to North vern.
First are Chaos dungeons. If you've ever played diablo, think of these as rifts. They are three-level "run around and kill things" type dungeons. These dungeons play to the games strengths extremely well. It feels really good to hit large groups of mobs for big damage. You can run these alone or with a party, and more chaos dungeons unlock the farther you get into endgame, so it never feels super-repetitive.

The second type of endgame content is Guardian Raids. Guardian raids are, well, exactly what they sound like. They're raids. If you've ever played Monster hunter or Dauntless, think of guardian raids like hunts. A party goes around to find a guardian, and fight said guardian. These guardians are pretty challenging, and are a fun thing to do with friends (While being frustrating with random party members sometimes), on top of giving you materials used to progress in endgame.

The third main piece of endgame content is Abyssal Dungeons. These are like heroic dungeons in other MMOs. However, unlike heroic dungeons, they are actually different dungeons and not just hard reskins of old dungeons. These can only be run in a party, so they're good content to run with guilds, friends, or people you know. The bosses in these dungeons are super fun and each one has mechanics that will probably make you wipe a couple times your first few runs.

PvP:
While I have not played any PvP myself thus far, from what I've heard from others, Lost Ark's PvP is one of the most easily accessible PvP systems I've seen in a long time, from any MMO. Everything is equalized. Gear, stats, additional effects. All of it is equalized, with the only differences being those that the player has control over (Such as abilities, and allocating the preset amount of PvP stat points). This means that there's no grinding for gear. No grinding for top tier loot, or skills runes or whatever that might get you an advantage. All you have to do is unlock PvP (around level 34 I think, Takes about 4 hours) and play. So, if you want to play a new class, you won't have to worry about gearing it at all. I don't know how useful the rewards for PvP are, but I know that there are titles and other things that let you show off your PvP rank, if you care about that.

Side Content:
Like I said above, No matter what you choose to do, it all comes back around on itself, and nothing is ever irrelevant. You can sail to islands to follow mini questlines, level up you stronghold (Player house), build relationships with NPCs, Find collectable items, do raids, mass dungeons, go sailing, Whatever you want to do, you can do, and none of it ever becomes irrelevant.

Outside the game:
While amazon games hasn't been the greatest in the past, I've heard that amazon plans to let smilegate (the devs) be responsible for a large chunk of the game (Imagine that! if you let the devs do what they want, they make a good game!). Also, from my own research, the korean fanbase has an obsession with the Smilegate devs (in a good way). They really like them over there. Smilegate also holds their own version of a blizzcon every year, with roadmaps and plans for improvement. That kind of communication is rarely seen in the MMO space today, so i have high hopes for their dev team.

TL;DR: While leveling is tedious, Lost ark's open approach to endgame, as well as the diablo-like combat lets you play it in any way you want to, and nothing you decide to do or progress ever becomes irrelevant.

8.5/10

This game is awesome, stunlock really had something going with battlerite and bloodline champions respectively...

Unfortunately, instead of catering to their strengths, they jumped on the fortnite bandwagon with Battlerite Royale, which i can't blame the devs for as they were probably pressured by higher-ups.

I really can't speak highly enough about this game and it is a game that i would have gladly dumped hours and hours into if they kept working on it. Unfortunately all development has stopped. There's still a player base and it's really fun to hop on every once in a while with some friends.

I really hope at some point stunlock can resume development on this game, whether it be a pssion project or in their best interest. they really had something good going here. RIP Battlerite.
