The game is visually stunning with immersive environments and fun objectives. The game has a lot of potential but the movement feels a bit clunky at times. Needs more levels to really shine but overall it's a solid experience with room to grow.

All the Hype for a Content Downgrade

If you were a fan of this game during its Early Access period, prepare to be disappointed. The full 1.0 release of Escape the Backrooms is the definition of a low-effort content drop, and it feels like the developers’ main focus was packaging up the existing concept rather than actually developing it further.

The main issue is that the launch feels incredibly thin. They removed more content than they added in the transition out of Early Access—key levels that long-time players enjoyed are inexplicably gone or drastically simplified, and certain entities seem to have been completely stripped out, replaced with nothing substantial. It's a baffling decision that hollows out what was, at least, a promising framework.

What we got instead of new, meaningful gameplay was a buggy, slightly polished version of the original core that still relies heavily on the "Backrooms" novelty to carry it. This is a classic case of taking a decent concept, doing the absolute minimum to call it "finished," and hoping the community doesn't notice the missing pieces. Save your money and wait for a proper update, if one ever arrives.
