I wanted to like this game, I really did. I've been an avid monster hunter for almost 15 years now and I've played every entry in the series except the Stories series. This game does have a lot going for it, and is a fun game, but it just doesn't play well and that's the unfortunate truth.

The Good
The soundtrack in the game is great, as always. MonHun has been defined by amazing soundtracks through all of their titles. These range from locale specific, monster specific, or even minigame tracks. They've given us such great soundtracks as the Dire Miralis theme, every iteration of Mark of a Hunter, and even the Khezu theme. Needless to say the score is still great in this game.
Movement tech sees an improvement of some sort in every title. In generation 3 we barely had any verticality, but we had water movement (albeit not great). In gen 4 we started to really get maps that took advantage of vertical movement and layered areas with things like vines or webs or climbable rocks and weapons that could make use of this verticality better (all weapons could now mount monsters). Then in generation 5 we got things like the clutch claw and wirebugs to really take movement to the next step. Now we have unique movement tech for individual weapons that really help to make them feel more fluid, which brings me to my next point.
Combat gets better every game. In generation 1, everything was very rigid - but we've come a long way. Every weapon is truly starting to feel unique in how they play. Combat is now also much more interactive with the actual monster. The clutch claw helped to get us where we are now with wounds and the power clash which feel great to use and makes every weapon feel more powerful. More weapons have special moves or stances so that the LS isn't the only special one. All that is to say that the game feels great to play (when you don't have to deal with the other actual problems in the game).

The Bad
Performance issues shouldn't be a new story in this title to anybody. It's been the talk for this game since we first had access. It's actually pretty baffling how this game runs so poorly. Aside from render distance, this game doesn't significantly improve on the graphics from World, yet it runs so much worse, and there's more than a few reasons why. I shouldn't need frame gen to get at least 60fps regardless of graphics settings. To make matters worse, the on-ging Title Updates are promising some pretty big monster entries (Gogmazios returning is huge and Omega was a graphical hog). These monsters are great for content, but it's significantly less fun to play such a fun fight at 45fps than at something more reasonable. The devs have promised a performance update for TU4 but I personally don't have much hope.
The maps are really hit or miss. Some maps such as the windward plains and scarlet forest are beautiful maps. The rest don't shine at all. One of the problem many of the maps suffer from in this game are small areas and intense verticality. These maps make other places like the Ancestral Steppes from 4 look small. Some of these maps are essentially pits to hell with how deep they are. I don't particularly want wide open flat maps everywhere, but what I don't like is when the monster is big enough for 1/2 of an area or where in order to cross the map, i spend half of my travel time climbing or falling. Additionally some of the later maps just don't feel as genuine. The ecology just feels more half-assed and "we need to place [i[something[/i] here rather than a real thriving ecosystem. At other times, every map more or less starts to feel like one giant cave.
Entities of every kind really are the frosting on the cake in this case. That's a general title so let me be more specific. Starting off, the Seikret is probably the most hit or miss thing in the game. The movement and convenience you get out of it do not out-weigh the problems, those being that it always gets in the way, auto-move is TERRIBLY implemented, and normal movement is relatively janky. Next let's talk about map elements. Some things (like a miscellaneous rock face) are so well detailed and look beautiful, and then you have a pot or fruit in the base camp that just looks like ass. A tree that's wonderfully detailed with dense foliage, and then some bushes are basically 2D shapes. The variance is insane and inconsistent, as if they used their polygon budget on a rock and ran out on the rest of the world. The final thing I want to remark on here are things like map entities. I'm sure many people had problems finding the "lower stratum of the oilwell" among other locations. Sometimes markers just don't exist and you don't know where to go. Sometimes you can't select an element on the map because it's close to another and the game REALLY wants you to chose one of those two over the other.
The last major issue I have with the game may be a bit more biased than the others. That problem being the story. Some people may genuinely enjoy the story out there, and to those people, I commend you, you've done nothing to earn my ire and you're free to enjoy the story. I however hate the story. After the initial opening sequence, I lost all interest in Nata's character arc. The rest of the story is "let's trying going in this direction to see if we can find Nata's home. And while we're in that location let's help those people too." The story jams itself down your throat at every corner. Instead of the classic quest card with some whimsical story about a travelling merchant that got scared on the road, now you actually have to talk to these people to take their quests and the options to skip through text are usually relatively limited to skipping on block at a time or just skipping through one-cutscene. Then after you talk to that person you have to wait for all of the screen clutter that it generates to clear before you can actually do anything just so the game knows for a matter of a fact that you know that you accepted some side mission. Frankly I just want to hunt monsters, I don't particularly need the story.

Far and away one of the best FPS games I've ever played. It not only feels great in both gunplay and maneuverability, but it has a unique asthetic that most FPS games don't in that it has it's own narrative world which includes some badass guns and titans. It's a shame that so few people still play the game.

New modes. New guns. New ways to enjoy. The game was already fun and they just keep finding new ways to make it more fun all for free (almost)

What a great game. By far one of the best I have played. Having come from RPG's and FPS games, I'm still fresh and new to fighting-esque games. This one goes above and beyond though.
• Soundtrack is fantastic
• Gameplay is smooth and *REALLY* satisfying once you get the hang of moving the ball
• Stages aren't unique in any hazards or anything, only the aesthetic changes (with the exception of where the ceiling is at)

Once you understand the core mechanics, the game starts to become very enjoyable. The story itself is a little lacking. There's not much to tell there, but then again, I didn't buy the game expecting a thrilling tale.
Each character is a little unique in how they perform, whether it's jump height, arm length, special ability, etc. That said, no specials are so strong that it's game breaking, though Boombox's reach is stupidly huge.

I recommend it 150% and then some. Even more fun if you have friends as well, though there is an online mode

After all of these years, Overkill is still updating the game and adding new content, albeit they probably just dropped the last batch of content for the game considering they just finished the story. Either way, the game is a blast and a great way to waste a few hours if you like PvE FPS games. It's even more infinitely better if you have friends to play with.

Easily one of the most innocent horror games out there. To top it off, it's free.

This game really has a lot going for it.
•The music is really nice to listen to
•The combat is very fluid and responsive
•60 FPS yo
•The story is interesting enough to keep you going
•Equipment is diverse to give a more unique feel

But there are a few flaws
•You have to first get past the black screen opener by editing a config file
•Multiplayer servers are dead

In my opinion, this game has a lot going for it. As long as you manage to get passed the initial bugs, the game has a lot of potential. But Unless you have friends to also play with, the game can get boring.
