I'm editing/changing my review. As of right now, I would not recommend this game to friends anymore.

I want to say this outright, before I get in to my reasoning.

At it's core, Robocraft has been a very fun game, and had a lot of potential to be competitive.
It has complete customization control, and interesting mechanics.

But, in it's current state, the game can be incredibly rough to play. As a comparison, getting parts to build a robot, and get to the end game [to play a bit mroe competitively] was a lot easier than it is now. Previously you were able to earn currency, and spend it on specific parts, to build the robot you envisioned to battle with. Now, it is up to a pseudo-random crate system; in which you get parts from [to build your robots].

The crate system, though left with a lot of potential, has it's downfall in sellback. As mentioned; you used to be able to earn currency, now you can break down parts you have won in order to gain currency. This would not be an issue if prices of parts was substantially lower, or if sellback was a lot higher. When you break down a part you gain around 10% of it's value, and most parts are already generally low value. Cubes, and lower tiered items cost a lot less,a nd are common. Where-as high-tier functional parts that are important to a build, and astronomically priced. Some important parts take you around 150 games just to gain a functional piece. This is no good for someoen who has a specific build in mind.

On top of the crate system, there are very few weapons that are viable, at the moment. The pool of weapons we have vs. that in which are viable is a little ridiculous. The weapons were recently flattened from a tier system in order to give plausible viability to ever form of weapon present. This may change in the future, but at the moment it is no good. Energy is a component in the game similar to mana; and some weapons eat up mana too quickly, other weapons may not use mana efficiently, yet do not do enough damage to be plausible in the current meta.

The second last gripe of the game is loyalty. I have played many hours of this game, and I can say that loyalty is only a pat on the head, and a brush to the side. There are those who are loyal, and popular, who get Freejam's attention, but overall being loyal has no perks. When Freejam make changes to the game, it is the new player base who have voices, and only in statistics. It seems that those who have stayed throughout the years have little to no say in the gamestate, now.
The vocal members of the community have been met with much resistance at times, and other times outright ignored. This is something I find to be an issue, due to the fact I very much like this game, and I want to see it move forward. This makes it feel that the community that was built almost doesn't matter, and might not matter moving forward.

Lastly; Freejam's communication skills have always seemed to be low. i'm unsure if it's due to low staff, or... Well, I'm not even sure. Some of the staff are rude, sometimes they are dismissive. Other times when Freejam communicates things they are 100% transparent [which you should never be], and take back what they say soon after. Othertimes, there are concepts brought up; promised, but then dropped without a word. Overall Freejam have been very heavy handed in a lot of what they do, and at times it's been frustrating.

This game has potential to thrive again, I believe in it. But at the moment, I feel it would be very hard to recommend to people, seeing how hard it is to pick up and play. How hard it is to get to the real gameplay [max level, a decent amount of parts], and how hard it is to learn a lot of things [no tutorial, unintuitive hud].

So until this haze clears up, This is my stance.

Old Review:

I would like to start off by saying that whoever is to play this, just remember that it is an Early Access game. They are still in Alpha! Alpha means that very large changes may occur, and the gameplay may change!
The game trailers basically depict what the game is like, but there are huge changes, or some things [parts] that are featured might not be in the game!

The reason why I warn this is because; when I joined I did not think the game was going to change so much. One of the main reasons I kept playing was to use a mechanic that is not longer supported.

Now that, that is out of the way...
I love Robocraft! I think it's a fantastic game, which has a pretty awesome community!
The community is constantly building new designs. Sometimes there are designs that are on top for weeks, sometimes you see them for days. There are huge variations between each bot through many matches! [Though there are builds that are standard and you see a lot, too!]

I keep playing this game now due to the creativity!
Building new bots, learning what is good, how to be as intricate as I can be... These are all things I hold on to in Robocraft.

The game may be changing, but the core is still there. You build a bot, you drive that bot how you like, and you play the heck out of it for hours while fighting off other people's bots!

How strong is your bot, how nimble? Do you give one up for the other? Does it have the desired power?

Keep trying! Keep crafting those bots!
